Food
Guildhall Cafe, Guildhall Street; nice Turkish family, cheap/reasonably priced, recommend the International Grill (eggs, bacon, sausage, burger, beans, chips, etc., etc.,)
The Grand Hotel!
East Cliff Pavillion, Wear Bay, on the cliff above Sunny Sands TRY IT!
There is a lovelu pizza place in the lanterns called Osterrio. It is so good in there. They are all Italian too. The food is very reasonably priced and comes in huge portions.
The new inn at etchinghill(follow signs for channel tunnel then pick up signs for local services)offers a good atmospheregood home cooked food and a selaction of real ales. sunday roasts £5.50 good value!!tele 01303 862026.
takis kebebs do the trick
La Tavernetta is overpriced Italian doo-doo. Chambers does good affordable food.
Mcdonalds we've got 2 burger king, 2 kfcs, loads of chinese take aways in Cheriton, Kebab shops in cheriton and folkestone .Also Pizza Hut in guildhall St.
McDonalds Drivethru, how that has sorted out a binge of scanky burgers.
The texas takeaway is my fave as it does chicked kiev kebabs and you always get loads of chips
Papa's for chips.
Shep's Delight in Cheriton for the best sandwiches around.....yummy!!!
There are so many takeaways in Cheriton (Cheriton is almost part of Folkestone) that there's one on every cornerl.
My peronal favourte is the golden gate Chinese Takeaway
+we have 2 McDonalds! AND 2 KFC's and a Burger King
wan lee chinese in ashley avenue t/a
nicolas la galleria in trinity gardens italian restaurant
Pauls restaurant, bouverie rd west, general top class food...(Tony Hart known to eat here).
The best restaurant in Folkestone is the Tavernetta. Especially for us oldies who are just beginning to discover the internet! Really excellent service and food.
Pauls Resteraunt New Delhi
For take-aways, go to Cheriton High Street. it is well known for take-aways, there is about 10-15 on the whole street, everything, kebabs, pizzas, fish & chips etc.
Pubs
big up the brickfield massive
LONG LIVE ODDFELLOWS...NOW CALLED THE FRONT...WE MISS YOU KEN!
Just out site of folkestone is the Black Horse at the rear is the Sound House at tye last opening 5 people turned up
East Cliff Pavillion on Wear Bay Road above the Sunny Sands. For years they served the best fish and chips every day and on Sundays the best Sunday Lunch like mother used to make. BUT I have just heard that Dave and Wendy have given up the lease and it is under new management. Would be nice to know what it is like now as we have super memories of the great food served there in the 1990's
Chambers is the best bar in town. No chave's or rude boys go there. It is like a secret club for hippies and skaters.
weatherspoons is a good crack but the bouncers are twats and spotty
When we were `fresh-faced' we used to go to the Cherry Pickers in Cheriton. Crap lager and fizzy warm bitter. Madness!
Chambers is the best thing about Folkestone, affordable booze, good atmosphere, a low proportion of Kappa wear and a top landlord.
The White Lion in Cheriton is a quiet pub, with a friendly atmosphere ideal if you cant face a big crowd. The staff are plesant and friendly and the pub attracts people looking for a quiet night out. They also have guest rooms if you can't manage to walk home!
the leas club
Pullman for a fight or leas club for lots of spotty, nerdy people
I mostly like going into tatty old places and asking for a pint of their finest "warm ole kent piss". Failing that it's down to Halfords for some anti freeze and window cleaner.
I like the ones with young pie. Hmmmm. Pie.
Wetherspoons is good to take a bird, cheap drink, get her pissed and then round by the alley..
The Morehall on Cheriton has a good atmosphere and the wetherspoons in town has got a great ceiling
the ship in sandgate is the only pub for good beer and proper food especially chunky sandwiches
The Ship in Sandgate is the only good pub for miles. New Year's Eve is wonderful down there, and Stuart the landlord should be an inspiration to landlords everywhere.
Chambers is about the worst "fun pub" I have ever seen, despite what most people think. Don't go there. Wetherspoons is far better, and cheaper
The Sub Club is now called The Chambers and is very popular on a Friday and Saturday night. Also open for coffee in the day and will soon serve food.
Bar Vasa is in Sandgate, a stones throw from the beach, very modern and popular in the summer.
Quite impressed with 'Wetherspoons' but I'm not sure the previous residents of the 'hellfire & brimstone' church that it used to be would approve. The painted 'clouds' ceiling is smart, it gives you something to focus on when you're flat on your back after one too many lagers!
The Lifeboat on The Durlocks can be good for lock-in!
Harvey's Wine Bar - excellent watering hole - whole range of beers (CAMRA Good Beer Guide 1998) and wines -
Ahhhhhhh!!!! So lovely pubs in old Folkestone. The Harbour being one of my favourite
Providence Inn Sandgate High Street Sandgate, recommend pub ale good, rear door leads to shingle beach
The Pullman (if its still there?)
The Dukes head in Hythe (which is near Folkestone), anyone of any age can get served.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Clarks in Sandgate Road, near Boots, for an overpriced coffee.... Wish they'd clear the tables more than once a month, though ....
The Chambers
Pelosi's still make the best cup of coffee
Though the little kiosk by the water lift does fresh tea at a reasonable price
better value than the mermaid
Not a Folkestone thing me thinks!
try Ready Snacks Cafe in sandgate road, under the folkestone taxi office
all the taxi drivers go there for the best breakfast in town.
they open at 6am. really good cheap food, nice looking staff too,
look out for julia and george.
After a bender the night before,a nice cup of coffee is ideal, try tesco or safeway!
What used to be morellis and is now Peloisis or something like that. I used to love the lime milkeshakes they served with ice cream floating in it.
Downstairs in Nature's Way. Excellent, cheap veggie food, and good coffee. Shame about the decor.
