Favourite Building

  • The Green Man for obvious reasons and the hut in the tennis court coz you could smoke loads of reefa there until they gave it a referb
  • its gotta be the wyllyotts manor
  • The old Ladbrooke school on the high street.
  • the wllyotts is a lovely old place
  • Wyllyots Manor, now The Old Manor, built donkeys years ago. I also like the quaint little cop shop at the end of the High Street with it's old lantern outside!!
  • Silver Jubilee
  • wyllotts manor
  • Wrotham Park - or the arch at Trotters Bottom
  • Wylliots Manor Pub. Shame it's surrounded by modern stuff. Also the Oakmere House pub.
  • Tescos
  • The cemetery lych gate. Perhaps the planners/vandals (is there a difference?) haven't noticed it yet.
  • Got to be canada Life, it looks so out of place, like a skyscraper in a desert.
  • The Wyllotts Centre - espescially the underground car park

Demolish It Now Building

  • Tescos, they have killed all the small shops off and now have a monopoly stranglehold. I hate all this conglomerate crap. ):
  • MC DONALDS to be honest
  • ORCHARD STORE AND SURROUNDING AREA
  • The two flats either side of parkfields top entrance! makes the place look so council estate
  • that canada life maple house thing, it's way out of keeping with the rest of the town, Tesco's because they lied about everything they said they wouldn't do. the police station cause there's never any one in it anyway
  • MCDONALDS AND THAT HUGE LUMP OF BUILDING ABOVE IT!!!
  • canada life should get smashed down it just looks wrong also cranbourne industrial estate is a run down mess just because they are work places doesn't mean they have to be so bloody ugly do the designers think the working class don't appreciate aesthetics these places are too ugly plant some big trees or something at least
  • Canada Life has got to go!! - urghh. also, the hideous yellow building opposite Furzefield.
  • All churches & old peoples homes. Turn them into pubs!
  • those old 60's offices near cranborne parade, they look knackered
  • Sainsbury's. Its old and smells, and is on a slope so everyone's trolley won't stay still. And the staff are rude and not interested in you - I should know, I work there!!!
  • Bus Garage
  • DOORPLAN
  • Horrible yellow-fronted '60s monstrosities opposite the Fuzzyfield leisure centre.
  • Most of the old peoples home that have mushroomed in the "town". They're taking over!!!
  • British Gas one up by the High Street which Tescos have bought and plan to flatten this year to extend the store and add a petrol station. The one next to it is well out of place as well.
  • New railway station
  • Canada Life - amazing what a bankrupt planning authority will permit. Do they have an architect on staff? As zumwun zed, it doesn't fit. Also, the frontage of the building almost opposite, was (still is?) MFI. Talk about your desolate urban landscape.
  • Maps and Globes shop, it makes me sick to the pit of my stomache
  • British Gas place next to Tescos - they're demolishing it now!
  • King Charles The Martyr Church

The Best Things

  • Gobions wood is delightful in springtime
  • the bridge, and parkfield,
  • it dont smell 2 bad
  • Dame Alice Owens School class of 2004. We were nang.
  • hardly any cops so kids (me a few years ago) have free run of the place
  • coming home after work, getting on my mountain bike, riding into the fields or woods, lighting one up and relaxing. it's close to the country whichever way you go, north east south west, there are some good trails to ride.
  • i like to go cycling, five minutes of riding and you are in the countryside. the friendly natives
  • Easy to get out of!! M25 close and easy to get into London. Also if you want to see some countryside, you don't have to drive very far.
  • Green Man & silver Jubilee
  • close to the countryside,
  • GREEN MAN CHICKEN AND RIBS
  • Being so close to London, but also a bit of a gap from the city life.
  • Good road and rail links to london or the north.
  • The old tramp outside the fish shop
  • Everyone thinks you are talking about a pub when you mention Potters Bar.
  • Only 15 mins from Kings Cross.
  • Rogan's Place and the bridge

The Worst Things

  • knobend charva kids need a good kicking.
  • One of the worst things may be Hertsmere doesn't provide us with Christmas Lights in Potters Bar, but they don't provide the other towns either - Borehamwood's are paid for by Elstree Town Council, not Hertsmere. So would someone else like to treat P/B to some?
  • most of the residents dont know there arse from their elbow, suprisingly townlike with its proximaty to london
  • every thing there is nothing to do here
  • HOODRATS
  • the people have changed since i moved here, not half as friendly as they were. the gangs of moronic kids that congregate outside the station/McDonalds get on my nerves a bit, what could be more boring for them to do than stand around potters bar station on a cold saturday night in january?????? it's a shame they haven't got anywhere better to go, they even come here from brookmans park. GOD how boring their lives must be!!
  • i suppose there are a few stuck up people around but where isnt there. its pretty boring for kids too but any thing u need is a few stops on the train (ten mins)
  • people leaving burger wrappers/cigarette butts on the memorial to the train crash victims..have some respect you creeps. lack of variety in the shops nowadays.20 years ago we had everthing a small town could need, now we have barbers/takeaways Tesco.. they promised no 24 hour shopping/no petrol station/etc etc. and lo and behold they went and did it, all to no complaint from the local councillors
  • Potters Bar only has two kinds of shop: Hairdressers and Restaurants - the place is full of them! Road Planning is abysmal. Only two roads N-S and Two E-W leads to horrendous hold ups at the traffic lights.
  • Hertsmere Council not spending any money on xmas decorations for PB. Borehamwood have them, funny that, Hertsmere Council being based in Borehamwood...??????
  • Potters Bar people who think they are Londoners!! Too many Arsenal supporters. This last comment is sort of linked to the first. The railway bridge down Darkes Lane, why have they painted it that blue colour, it looks awful, also whenever there's a slight chance of rain, it turns into a pond underneath, everyone gets stuck in their cars there!
  • gangs of teenagers, every bloody weekend, smashing shop windows why dont they f**k off somewhere else, lack of police at night time(they have to come from borehamwood) lack of any amenities i.e youth clubs, not much to do but visit pubs, far too many take-aways
  • There is very little for younger people to do in the area, so you get the annoying little freaks hanging around on street corners, by the station, etc. I really think there should be more for kids to do. I didn't grow up in Potters Bar but if I was a kid there, I think I'd have gone crazy.
  • There are no good clothes shops and no record stores.
  • Potters Bar is now a extension of Essex, which seems to have occurred since the buldng of the M25.
  • The fish shop
  • Insufficient space to list.
  • Too many old people (Far too many) Too many "Hard Lads" looking for fights
  • "The railway station gang" They are a bunch of young teenagers who hang around the railway station, dressed in baggy clothes who spit, swear, and smoke a lot.
  • Miss O'carrolls house
  • It's a bit nothingy really - too close to London, too much commuter town.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...
