Food

  • Uxbridge has an excellent selection of Keebab shops, Curry Houses, Fast Food places, Sandwich shops and restaurants. You can't knock it for that!!
  • Subway serves food from the subway.
  • The picnic you buy at Marks and Spencer and eat at Black Park
  • N.V. Cafe'
  • Superb Italian Restaurant nr McDonalds but it's not cheap. Lots of Harvesters around...(if you must) Plenty of Chinese and Indian. Best Indian is Nr Hayes Station The Hayes Tandoori. A good and inexpensive new one on the Cherry Lane and Harmonsworth Road fork at W.Drayton. Spoiled by grey silk flowers but food and service excellent value for money. Best Fish & Chips is Jacks opposite RAF Uxbridge - sit down or take away. Has car park. About £3.75 for enormous cod & chips to eat in. (Tell them you'll wait while they cook it as in quiet times you may get some that's been cooked a while) The Swan & Bottle on the Canal has just been refurb'd. Excellent food, wines, etc.
  • Ah, glorious food. As for us foreigners visiting from abroad and why we'd want to go to Uxbridge....well, I lived there from 1948 to 1962 and me Mum still lives there. But I met a chap fropm Arkansas, USA ( on the Internet) who had visited my hometown in September, 1997, shortly after Princess Diana died. He didn't plan to be there when she died, just a coincidence. But he told me about JACK'S FISH & CHIPS on The Greenway, formerly The Green Man Pub. This past April (98) my hubby & I spent a few days in Uxbridge and had both dinner & breakfast at Jack's Place. Fantastico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd fly to England just to go back to Jack's......if I could afford to!!! Love Caroleuk@aol.com
  • Nona Rosa italian restaurant, The Nave for the cheapest sandwich in town
  • Granny Satchwills..New Arcade. The Bacon Butty Shrine of Uxbridge!
  • Subway sandwich bar - don't forget to take out a mortgage before ordering. And you though that a sandwich would be a cheap lunch.
  • Proper restaurants: Martins (Windsor Street)
  • McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's.

Pubs

  • The Old Bill is a good place to pick up a West Drayton slapper.
  • The Bull (Iver) The Shovel (outside on a summers eve) Cowley The Red Lion on Hillingdon Hill (weeknights only)
  • Adam & Eve, Hayes, O.K. friendly local pub, drinks reasonably priced, large function room for hire and some kind of music (small pub band or disco) at most weekends. Mainly Irish pub, pool tables and a bit of crack, ok for a chat and a laugh.
  • Scruffy Murphy's is the best they put shamrocks on your guinness!
  • The Old Bill is rammed full of peeps nearly all the time but will do
  • De Burgh Arms, West Drayton - Contrary to another posting, I found the gaffer OK, and the ale is pretty decent, alos reasonably priced by London standards. The Paddington Packet Boat, Cowley (on 222 bus route) - decent boozer, again with reasonably priced ale (Fuller's Chiswick in draught form - £1.55 in September 1999). Railway Arms, West Drayton - basic working man's boozer.
  • The General Elliot on Rockingham Rd backs onto the Grand Union Canal. Nice Pub, friendly staff and it never seems to get too crowded. Definately worth a walk out of Uxbridge for. I can't think of anything to recommend the Central Uxbridge Pubs, steer clear they all seem to be packed with 17 year old locals on their way to Discotheque Royale or whatever they're calling it now !
  • Windsor street is the best place, 3 pubs including "the old bill" Dance music on a friday and saturday, also "Scruffy Murphy's" a very nice place, contrast to the others. High street has a few, "The good yarn" is the best here, don't go to "The crown and sceptre" it's a complete shit hole, "The good yarn" is just a few shops down, go there, it's safer, cleaner, cheaper( £1.50 per pint). Best pub: Scruffy Murphy's, a generally nice safe pub, never any trouble Worst pub: Crown and sceptre, bit of a reputation, not very popular, very expensive
  • Are the pubs on the high street or is the high street in front of the pubs?
  • Loads of pubs though unfortunately they seem to suffer from being crowded with pretentious twats from the university (not all the locals are as brain dead as you seem to think they are) My favourite is the Three Tuns near the Tube station and also the crown and sceptre which is a Wetherspoons pub and as such does have cheap beer on special offer most weeks and occasionaly guest beers at special prices.
  • The Shovel on the Grand Union Canal (5mins by bus) Also Harvester with cheap food before 6.30pm Denham village is original olde worlde and very busy. Several beamed ceiling pubs. You need a friend with a car but about 7mins from Town Centre. You might bump into Sir John Mills in the pub.
  • The Old Bill (Down Windsor Street), The Good YarnYawn (High Street)
  • Uxbridge has one saving grace, plenty of boozers. Three in Windsor Street including "The Old Bill" a dissused police station "The queens head" and also a quite trendy Irish pub. On the main high street there is Continentals and the Crown and sceptre, both a bit more winebarry, the good yarn a no music no smoking but generally quite busy pub and around the corner there is another popular place (but the name escapes me!!!) Apart from that there is the Three tuns quite nice but dont ever pick a fight about the food as they can be quite rude. Phew, hope that fills you in a bit more.... hic..
  • Don't go in the Queens head. The Landlord is miserable as hell. Also the town is very rough. Beware! Don't venture far alone.
  • Try The George & Dragon, Yiewsley Central Good food, beer. ETC pub is full of oddbods and fun can be had by all. Don't go to the De Burgh in W Drayton, the pub is run by a little Hitler and you have to wait ages to get served
  • The Three Tuns for good food at lunch time, The Queen's Head or the Bill in most picturesque street in Uxbridge.
  • The Green Man (opposite RAF Uxbridge) has been turned into a fish and chip shop. I am only 15, so I don't know much about the pubs!

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • The refreshment kiosk at Black Park
  • loads - costa and many others. avoid the one in the middle of the pavilions unless you speak italian.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Uxbridge. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Uxbridge.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
