• Nothing 2 say - if you're visitng uxbridge then u're either deluded or have far 2 much spare time on ur hands.
• dont come to uxbridge u got blokes thinkin they ard coz the got gel in their hair and sum fake ring up for a fight even though they got no chance of winnin, old ppl who try to run u ova wit thier trollies misrab;e old lookin woman who actully aint that old and moanin bus drivers that charge ppl ova 16 40p and ppl under 16 70p work it out bus blokes!
• So what do normal people do in uxbridge then?? S
• i d think uxbridge is crap but whoeva slags off students y dont u get a fuckin life u were students once and not every1 can be as bloody perfect as u were!!
• the chimes is ok i suppose but it aint as good as people made out to be and they need a decent club or something royalles is loosing its touch.
• Uxbridge is a good area to bring up children, but its not much fun for teenagers, who tend to hop on the tube headed for Central London/Harrow.
• The definitive "Uxbridge Bloke" is a generalisation of every bloke who has grown up in and around Uxbridge. Reebok classics, Ralph Lauren shirts, gold earrings and soverign rings...the wonders of this crazy town we call home.
• Uxbridge could be an excellent town. It's only 12 miles from the centre of London, has loads of transport linking you to anywhere you want to go and loads of potential sites to develop for residents. However Hillingdon Borough Council refuse to allow anything to be created in the town that will enhance life in General. They build no clubs for the under thirties, no Bowling Alley's or Ice Rinks for the kids and No Bingo Clubs or Social Clubs for the older residents. Instead they profit by allowing nasty American companies to set up their HQ's in the Town. Insurance companies, Car Rental companies and other similar corps know they can rip residents off by offering them work for a absolutely no money and terrible terms. If Hillingdon Council stopped being so greedy and sorted their act out, we might get a town that is on a par with some of the other London towns. Or Even places like Brighton!!
• The Best social group for the over 35's is Hillingdon Quest , which meets every Tuesday , apart from the 1st Tuesday of the Month at The Load of Hay ,Villier Street , Uxbridge . Details from Clive on 01895 466557
• I think Uxbridge could be a wonderful town if it would let its self go a bit and become more chic. MY dentist moved there because he couldnt stand the traffic pollution in Hounslow, They ought to emphasize the rural charm bit and create something unique and unusual in the town centre maybe like an Amsterdam Red Light area?THAt would pull in the punters!"
• Though the heading of the Uxbridge entry says it is in the County of Greater London, as far as the Post Office is concerned (and many locals) it is in the County of Middlesex.
• I hated uxbridge and avoided going there for many years but never tried the nightlife! I can now say it's probably the place where ive had the best of times and wouldnt miss a night out in uxbridge for a thing! my home town is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Brunel uni-for all those prospective uni students out there , the beers too expensive , the works too hard and the usual past-time is nicking car stereos ( but at least it gives the locals something to do). watch out for the hockey team if something isn't nailed down they'll have it , eh chef.
• I'm a Spanish girl, and was living in Uxbridge for one year, that's why I'm reading this web site. I like Uxbridge, you can find almost everything you need, and the countryside is very near. I liked the swimming pool, Uxbridge College, the Pavilions, Ski Center, etc. My name is Maite, and Im sorry about my English, I know it is very poor. Have a nice day.
• what with the gangs and the 11 o clock street fillers there is no room left for anyone else
• Where's the Class of 1970
• Uxbridge was buggered up by the local council when they built the Pavilions shopping centre and have continued to do so ever since the latest venture being another featureless pile named the Chimes currently being slung up. There is talk of a table dancing venue opening. A sad place for sad people in a sad town.
• Uxbridge may be a poor place for students to spend four years, but it can be great for families with small children. You are in reach of the big museums and galleries, without the trouble of tripping over tourists. The countryside is within reach, and olde worlde pubs in Denham and Harefield are near enough to be worth a visit.
• Estate Agents by the hundred. Cheapest 3-bed semi Oct 98 about 89K and probably ex council. £120K for a 30's s/d bay windowed house in non estate road. 3-bed ex council flat in small block approx £70k.
• The main thing you can say about it is that Brunel University is there, and that's about it. There's one (crap) club, it's too far from London centre. The 2 hour Night Bus home tends to talk you out of not going unless you've got a car. So as a student you get stuck in the SU Bar for 4 years of your student life. The shops aren't good - end up getting a bus to Ealing for the nearest decent place; the market stinks of fish - more than any other place I've been to.
Basically it's dead - I'd hate to have grown up there as a kid, and I'm glad I'm out of there now!
Well there you go, people from there may have some better things to say about the place - there's a challenge!
•

• The Ski Centre is ok. Skiing and snowboarding and national Competitions are held here.
• The best thing about Uxbridge is that it's not Hayes, which is a real shit hole!!!
• The worst thing about Brunel University (and we should know, we've been stuck here for four years) is that the beer is too expensive in the SU bar - if you can get in it.
• Quite a "nice" place really. No complaints. Decent shopping centre, although sometimes you may want to go to Ealing or the city. Easy access onto the M40, and M4. Plenty of pubs/wine bars. Ive only seen two clubs, one's more like a wine bar in Uxbridge and the other's in Yiewsley (Bradley's I think - tries to play funky music, but fails). A typical small town, better than most.
• Come on, this is not a bad place at all. Jump on the underground and you can get anywhere in 45 minutes. Forget the bus it takes ages. Uxbridge has always been a shopping attraction due to its 'open market' back in the sixties. This is a great place to grab a ride to Windsor castle for the day. Walk around and enjoy, believe me it's okay. I should know, I grew up three miles from Uxbridge.
• Uxbridge is very well known for its wide range of Big Issue sellers. There are hundreds of the them (Big Issue, by the way, is a magazine sold by homeless people). People come for miles away to see them, and it has also been known for people to hold competitions, and see how many different people they can buy a copy from.
• If you visit Uxbridge from abroad (why you would want to, I don't know!), then take a look at Windsor Street, near the church, The street is an example of a 'Ye Olde Englishe Streete'.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
