  • did you know that electric avenue was the first street in the country to get electric lights????
  • I would like to inform you of the latest project by Panic! Brixton Poetry - Panic! • Again, people have smoked cannabis openly in Brixton for years, but now new laws allow police to confiscate your stash & slap your wrist within five mintues, meaning they don't mind doing it. Before it took too much time & paperwork so they wouldn't bother. THey have done this, & somehow, conned the entire country into believing they have 'relaxed' the laws, by not arresting people on the spot for smoking cannabis. I can't believe it's 2001, I really can't.
  • the great murals that go up around brixton. never buy ganga off a dodgy rasta on coldharbour lane - my mate did and he got home to find that he was smoking bark.
  • Clapham Sainsburys is amazing Brixton is Banging
  • In worked in brixton in 1979 in a Social Office. I found the people also working there to be the most po faced morose ignorant ill bred twits Id ever seen before. They constantly attempted to put me down and take the mickey out of me because I was white, middle class and from a nice home with 2 heterosexual non abusing parents. After a few months I or them parted waysand I have never regretted it! My impression was that Brixton was a profoundly depressing, bitter and immoral place with people who were actually evil. A few months after I left the area massive 1981 riots erupted.Apres moi le deluge!
  • Love the market, lots of good fruit and veg, it's the chaos vibe;-)
  • Much better than Clapham! - I moved to escape the dull middle-class 'niceness' of Clapham - but its still close enough to reach Clapham within 10 mins
  • Number 7, gay and lesbian guest house
  • Buy your insense from the Rasta who stands outside the tube stop calling out "Insense!". It is good good quality, cheap, and he is a very nice man. Cheers!

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Brixton. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Brixton.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
