Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • Pollys a boon at Christmas.. great stuff
  • Pollys...cool 30's to 70's gear and great trinkets
  • Cafe society, franks, deffinatley gusto opposite burger king, but you might have to buy everything in there cause its all SO nice!!
  • Hurrah for Cheap Charlies!
  • aint got any really but the don is good for unique t-shirts
  • the don 4 crazy gimic t-shirts and clubs andn societies. u can get ne thing u want printed on a t-shirt here check out there website www.absoluteprintwear.co.uk they also sell lodsa posters!!!
  • Unless you want to buy either a)Bad quality, over-priced trash (a la Cafe society/franks b) Hippy trash (a la Polly's) c)townie trash (a la New Look) go else where
  • Ummm, let me think ..... clothes shops .....in Aber... what about going to Cardiff instead? Did you know Aber used to have a top shop but it closed down and became Evans (that shop for the slightly larger lady)
  • Franks, Cafe Society, Monsoon, Magic Point - no department stores.
  • Absolutely CRAP..gusto/cafe society ok but massively overpriced
  • Stormriders by the station is the only place selling boardrider s**t that would turn any guy into a love god. Guaranteed or your money back.
  • If you live in aberystwyth you dont need clothes! everyody wears crap - except mildly rich students who look extremely poncy with their golfing caps and pre-torn jeans
  • Stormriders by the station sells guys and girls clothes from most of the core surf skate and snow brands. Very cool kit and sensible prices.
  • plenty of clothes shops if u like new look or middle aged style womens clothes...not exactly much other than stars for gothy/grungy looking clothes
  • Hmmm 'Burtons', is the only place where you can get clothing fromn the 21st century!!!! B'wise Ok too if you want cheap clothes
  • If you go into any of the wonderous clothes shops,as usual, the clothes as always, will not fit you. Take them to (a very friendly) "Swansons Dry Cleaners" in the middle of town, you cant miss them. They have a wonderful and most importantly RELIABLE alteration service. I took three pairs of slacks there to be shortened, one which also needed a new zip, they were ready the following day,all pressed up and packed in cellophane and they did'nt charge me a fortune,I checked out the prices in Newtown's Dry Cleaners and they were twice the price and would take a week!. Full marks Swansons Dry Cleaners! Small town.....Big on customer relations!
  • What clothes shops???
  • er peacocks for granny, stewart seconds for poor or students, otherwise shop else where( the nearest is Carmarthen and thats 50 miles away).
  • Go into Magic Point in Terrace road......check out what you want, even try it on((they'll help....ever so friendly there))then when the sale is on.....get in there and save yourself a bomb!
  • Lits of old-ladies type shops. Franks is pretty good, if a little pricey.
  • dream on...
  • lettice and melbury is crammed full of stuff by french connection,in wear (to name but a few).I got a brilliant fleece by footprint there for only £47 (down from £95).Other womens clothes shops are either normal high street ones - dps,new look or old biddy ones.
  • franks off pier street(don't know what the actual road is called). usa clothing opposite burger king(in process of changing name) a few others but most are crap and anything you'll buy you'll see on 20 other ugly nerds before you get it home cos aber has so few shops.
  • Numerous charity shops. Will provide all your student clothing needs in Aberystwyth
  • Cheap Charlies
  • Again there is Burtons on the main street and a Cirro Cittero (suppose thats Italian for expensive crap?) but why not go somewhere else to buy clothes...
  • Check out Stewart's Seconds for the occassional chain store bargain!
  • Neville's has indeed shut. But in its place is Stars, not bad, with friendly staff. Polly, near Cheap Charlie's is also good, if you like smelling of patchouli... Lettice and Melbury, on Pier Street does smart stuff, but costs a small fortune, for Aber.
  • Aber's finally getting some new, cheap clothes shops. We've had a B'Wise for 18 months now (I should know, I work there!)
  • On the other hand, as far as some people are concerned it's a case of: "Do you want to go shopping by train or by coach!"
  • Neville's Boutique kits out students in cheap tie-dye kaftans and grungewear.
    Neville's Boutique no longer exists.
  • Dotty P's, Burtons, Fosters, usual chain stores in economy size versions.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • The Art Shop in Pier street.. been there forever, superb selection if it isnt in there, you dont need it!
  • Art Shop top of Pier Street...if they aint got it... it isnt Art!!!
  • Arts centre, some nice exhibitions and good cafe.
  • Very pukka main gallery plus two smaller photo/art galleries and a ceramics gallery at the Arts Centre. Wonderful Craft Shop in there as well. TOKO in Eastgate Street does good craft stuff, run .by a very nice woman called Jan
  • The Arts Centre is pretty is it not, lends a touch of arty class to Aberystwyth, for rich people, lecturers and dreamy students. Also the National Library is an outsanding resource! Looks very much like the archives from the film Goldenye, where Bond and Natalya are being chased by Ourumov and his guards.
  • CRAFT behind the glen and the bay. Hippah homemade tables and artwork
  • Kraxi, Polly
  • the little craft fair at the arts centre at christmas if fab
  • Biognosis have a craft fair thingy going on at the mo... lots of twee rubbish plus some funky stuff. Stars and Polly's are also pretty decent.
  • Arts Centre surprisingly good for such a small town. Not top notch, but good. There's also displays at the National Library and the School of Art which everybody forgets.
  • mmmm.... well, there's some nice furniture and pottery on Biognosis on pier street, I suppose.
  • There is a museum opposite varsity and its usually closed. A much smaller one is open since April till August on the top of Constitution Hill, and there are all kinds of small but generally nice venues in the Arts Center
  • A craftsman I think everyone should know about is Mr LYNDON DAVIES the JEWELLER, whos cosy shop is situated at no.4 Eastgate. Has 25 years experience in the gold and silver trade which becomes obvious when you see his work. Majority of work is handmade items made from scratch to your exact specifications, no limitations to his ability, gold or silver, giving you a totally unique item of handcrafted jewellery. Also does repairs of all kinds, chains, watches, clocks etc and offers a Valuation for Insurance service with fully detailed printed document, with full check and clean within the price. Lyndon has even had an article about his work published in a South American Newspaper and has people from that area requesting his catalogue. Basically, this man is wonderful...give him a visit!!!!!!
  • Kraxi has a lot of nice celtic jewelry, specifically Rhiannon - a great local artist.
  • The Arts Centre. Has a huge pre-Christmas arts/crafts fair lasting for about two months. The Camera Obscura Gift Shop - varied craft items for sale, many made by local people with learning disabilities (gift shop owned by a local charity called "Prospects for people with learning disabilities")
  • There's a lot of this in the Arts Centre on campus at the university - Art Gallery and purchasing especially... some crafts occasionally...

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • Bah None!
  • Stormriders stocks Sidewalk, Document, Unity, Carve, Wavelength, Surfers Path, 360, and ATB mag.
  • The newsagent next to the launderette on the way down the hill has an excellent selection of jazz mags. He seems to specialise in gay porn, but there is a market...
  • Has anyone been into that Newsagent on Pier Street and been served by that boy in the tank-top? He really loves his job!
  • Where, where?
  • Two magazine shops on the road where andy's is.. have a fairly wide selection.
  • Woolies and WHS. Also the Post office in Waunfawr opposite the Co-operative Supermarket.
  • The shop in Eastgate.. millenium comics... never seems to be open, but the newsagent in the same street sells Marvel comics plus some magazines unseen elsewhere in Aber. The newsagent in Pier Street also has a good selection of mags.
  • Place called Millenium Comics at the top of town, does allthe usual stuff, but mostly Star Wars and Star Trek too. (Cool life size cut outs in the window )

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Aberystwyth. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Aberystwyth.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
