Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
the cookie club is the only place to be!
Plenty of run of the mill clubs and places to go and dance or just chill out.
Don't go to Rock City if you are over 19, unless you like feeling very old.
The Edge, The Bomb and Blueprint are great small clubs with loads of rooms to get lost in, friendly punters and a variety of cool DJs, club nights and live stuff. Try nights like 'Percussion' and 'Demo' although they're usually packed!
Rock City *hands down!* - amazing place, and there's NEVER EVER EVER any trouble there. However, I was unfortunate and got stabbed with a fucking syringe. BUT I SWEAR THERE'S NEVER ANY PROBLEMS THERE INVOLVING DRUGS, VIOLENCE, ABUSE etc etc. Even ask the police, I'm telling the truth!!!!
Check out the promoters on Leftlion and seek out their nights rather than specific venues is my advice. Damn You and Hot Renault... are good wonky weird nights, as are the ever-reliable Supernight presents...
Stealth - notts newest club - fabric of the midlands allegedly, not sure about that but it's where all the decent acts get booked these days.
DEMO PROJECT - BluePrint (previously Skye Club), Alfreton Rd, Radford. Fast becoming the stuff of legends in notts music scene, monthly creative political rave with live music, bands, poets, performance arts and film. Fair Trade Cafe. www.demoproject.co.uk, all proceeds to campaigns and charity projects.
Teh Malt Cross on St James street, old music hall, v cool inside. Not for townies though which is nice.
The Rig/Rock City on sunday nights have an under 18's night. Tis good, emo and goth kinda place.
I think that Media Nightclub is the best its so fun and theres a great atmosphere go there if you want a good time !! trust me
Rock City - Talbot Street. Lots of different club nights, Under 18s, Student Night, and other likes.
the social!!! they have a night every third thursday of the month called homosapian social club! it rocks !!!!!
Last time I went to Rock City I felt very old. I am 20 yrs old. It was last week. You will get in.
Well for all those among us that like big cheesy student nights with cheap voddie and chesney hawkes mixed in with queen, a bit of billy ocean and a dirty dancing tune or two, then it has to be TROLLIED at media on a saturday night! and a comedy night out is had by all! long islands alright on a friday night but beware of the girls in extremely unflattering short skirts and thongs dancing on the podiums (!)
The Works
Rock city!!!!!the city of rock!
well theres mode, media, the works, the bomb. a=re all greta clubs in town. then theres ocean (teeny bopper central). o and reflex if your into all your 80's music. havent they turned Qlounge into a club recently aswell??
Never ever go to the works - anyone over the age of 18 will feel very very old!! The cookie club on a saturday is dirty and sweaty, but amazing!! no trendies around either
probably Rock City.......the basement of course!
NOT OCEAN go works its the best club
ROCKCITY!!!(avoid yates at own risk)
what 'bout tha rescue rooms??? angle is cool 2 haven't been 2 rock city yet.
ROCK CITY ROCK CITY ROCK CITY ROCK CITY ROCK CITY
Media is overrated and too expensive, and full or morons some nights, BUT, if you can get yourself on the guestlist and go to one of the private lounges, the club really redeems itself and can be excellent. The foodbar there is also second-to-none within the context of club-snacks.
If you like a mix of alternative and indie music, with some cheese thrown in, and are looking for a particularly-unpretentious venue, then the Cookie Club may suit you down to the ground. It's on St.James's St., next door to Bar Schnapps. It does draw the goths, but it has two dancefloors, so non-goths need not feel alienated (unlike Rock City). It's laid back and the punters are generally an easy-going bunch. A good club to start at if you are new to Nottingham. Hardcore 'purist' clubbers would be better catered for by Media nightclub.
The Bomb, Rock city, (had to be said)
the works, but does every1 else go there because its where everyone else goes to, i dont really like it, i bet theres just 1 guy or girl that every1 loves that goes there and every1 else follows... i heard that medias full of those awful townies that wear caps and stupid gold chains, they are wrong...has anyone seen that stupid townie that wears one white nike golf glove, makes me laugh, YOU ARE NOT MICHAEL JACKSON!
From a students perspective, my fave nights out are: Tuesday at Ocean....cheap and cheesey. Wednesday at Cookie Club, my FAVE club in the world, plays indie, rock and a little punk/ska. Friday at the Zone, a notts uni place for non-freshers to go. Sat OR Tues - Rock City. Sat plays alot of non-rock music (why I ask thee!) and tues is better...similar to cookie club.
ROCK CITY is amazing under 18s nights are held once a month roughly and r 6 til 10 £4 on sunday
The Bomb is really the only decent place to go in Nottingham at the moment. By far the best choice of DJs and nights and a truly underground feel.
what ever happened to the listings for mccluskys i like it and the front bouncer is soooooooooo fine
Rock City on thursday nights use to be quite cool, untill they starte playing the same songs over and over like crappy fraggle rawk and video killed the radio star, hoobastank, grease, nelly, etc etc...
the clubbing in nottingham aint as good as it was last year. hotdog has gone, media is full of townies and the lost weekend dumped its 1 decent house night (fierce) for student nights. the edge has hard house on fridays and is full of dodgy looking wide eyed sorts, its nice if you like it hot and sweaty. the venue in long eaton is great on saturdays, they have a night called fixation and a built in afterclub so you can keep going till 8am woohoo!!
The Edge on lower parliament street, 1 word - sweatbox. or is that 2? hard house on a friday night.
Rock City (but getting a lot more annoying I notice and they're not getting the gigs lately for some reason), The Bomb, Cookie Club (except I went up St James' Street the other day and I swear it's changed again!), keep meaning to check out the Lenton, Skyy Club etc but not got round to it yet. That sounds crap, but never figured out exactly how to get to them.
Rock City is the best club in Notts for rock/indie music, although the Cookie Club on St James' Street is also good. For more trendy clubs, go to Ocean (near Broadmarsh shopping centre), Media (on Kings Street), or The Works, in the huge Cornerhouse building.
ROCK CITY!!!!!! dammit that is the only decent club here but its just insanely awesome! and i most certainly havn't been getting in there since i was 14 *coffcoff*
Rock City good. Ocean, Palais, The Bomb bad.
i can't believe no one has mentioned the WORKS so far it's got heavy music loadsa garage and that and some old skool dance choons every now and again. drinks are pretty expensive but it's free before ten and £6 afterwards and £8 after ten on a saturday. The bomb is good, there's bare gangsta mans all over with fat cars and loadsa money. ocean's alright but it smells of feet and is dead until about five to eleven when it get's packed. Lost weekend is a fat bashment but it's expensive so either take a lot of money or lot's of drugz.
steer clear of rock city unless you're a dirty greb or a trampy rocker. squares is good for cocktails and good music. jumping jacks is also pretty good on a friday and a sunday.
GO 2 DA OCEAN!!! ITS WICKED!! ONLY LET DOWN IS ITS FULL OF BLACK LAD WANNA BES NEVA EVA GONNA BE'S!!!!
best ting to do is go and get pissed in westside on a thursday nite
O`rileys on a monday
Cookie club tuesday
Sleep wednesday
Get pissd of @ Rock city on a thursday listen to s club 7 and limp bizkit(AHHHHH LIMP BIZKIT NOOOOOO!)
Envy night club on a friday they do a alt. night now
Rock city on a sat. it kicks all ass but the D.J`s a bit slow 4 hours to play the song i asked for what the hell is going on
Get over the hang overs on Sunday and laugh at your bank balance
The Bomb, which is actually so underground, you have to go downstairs to get in. Spot on. Also, the Marcus Garvey Centre (or Ballroom) used to hold some of the best nights in the world. Has some decent nights once in a while these days. Plenty of other cheeze round and about. Also, the Social, but it's better as a drinking venue.
One of the best clubs recenately is with out a doubt the bomb. With the likes of Prime cuts, first rate, Mr scruff, hyper, london electricityetc... its extremely good.
Rock City on Saturday`s alterative night rules!!!! I love wearing my fluffy yeti boots and stripey kneesocks there!!! Luv Di XXXX
Try Ocean on a friday night! It's only abut £3 to get in, and the cheese factor is surprisingly low!
For up to date and in depth details of loads of clubs and bars in Nottingham check out http://www.nottingham-nightlife.co.uk. In my opinion Media and the Bomb are two cool clubs. The Dubble Bubble is quite cool too!
Rock City is a must for anyone, especially as its so cheap. Saturday is probably better than Thursday ( cheap beer on this night ) if you want to avoid those nasty trendies!
love shack at rock city on a friday night...which has remarkably friendly bouncers if you know what i mean.
Media opened 1999, it is pretty damn good. Renaissance is one of the best nights in the country - Saturday nights, John Digweed, Deep Dish, need I say more?
Oh yeah isis is very very cheesy, ocean is good for a few visits but cheesy also, palais is getting better, rumours that a big name dj is coming, the Lost Weekend now has Hotdog from Leicester, reputed to be fantastic. Also, the bomb is pretty damn cool.
The club scene has really kicked off lately.
Rock City
Free allnighters at the Marcus Garvey. Look out for small black and white photocopied flyers in selectadisk singles or funky monkey.
The Bomb, although getting dangerously trendy. The Lenton is the ultimate for underground dnb scene.
Lizard lounge is a great club - feels small, three floors of bars, can have a decent conversation in bottom floor bar or bop on middle floor.
Rock city Raaaaaaaa dopest club! not ha ha.
Maze, The Garvey, Skyy, Rock city, all Good, nuff said ruud ting!
Rock City has changed thursdays, but in name only - they still ROCK for everyone from nearly trendies to scary metal types. And the still play the A team theme tune
The latest club to hit trendy nottingham is The Lost Weekend. Previously the venue for the house this club has really hit it off. Miss Moneypenny tour visits the clu every saturday, a date for everyones diary. House and gaarage from topDj's with a friendly east midland crowd. It has to be seen to be believed so get yourself down there. Although the favourite still remains the bomb with it's futuristic decor. Droping a range of music from house to drum n bass
Rock city is wicked on a Thursday night-you could go in naked and the bouncers wouldn'y notice!
The Bomb has to be THE club now in nottingham. O.k. so the entrance price and then the drinks inside are a bit pricey but if you can get that together it's an exceptionally cool club, with several floors. The main floor being underground and resembling Yodas' little hut but with even groovier lighting and of course on a larger scale.
Beatroot is really cool on a saturday as they play loads of bigbeat in the upstairs room, quite a lot of house downstairs - members only, 6 quid. RKO two is now called envy - shite name, but fairly good if you want to get wankered and have a laugh, all the usual house pop and eighties. the bomb has reopened recently and that is really hot... rock city is good on a thursday night very cheap
Essence: I think that Allister Whitehead plays here Saturday
Excellent club/music venue is The Monastery in the Lace Market Sam Fays, Great Northern Close, London Rd is now a "Hooters" restaurant! The Black Orchid is renamed as ISIS Ritzy will become The Palais again
The Rig at mondays, Faces
The women's centre for fluff ball with dj sophie...give it a whirl if you are a girl.....
Ritzy's - Nottingham's notoriously awful mainstream nightclub. However, it's cheap to get in and usually packed. Good for a laugh, especially seeing who can spot the youngest (12) and oldest (82) clubbers in there!
Nottingham must be one of the most trendy places in the country. Plenty of nightclubs including MGM's, Black Orchids.
Skyy Club on Alfreton Road: Small but happy people everywhere.
The Marcus Garvey Centre gives Nottingham one of the few all-nighers in the form of the Doghouse. Cheap to get in and wicked techno is abundant.
Deluxe is a top night but if your're not wearing the right stuff, forget it. It's also a members only club.
Live Music Venues
rescue rooms, rock city, and for trying to make it acts, moog and junktion 7. moogs a bonus as the food is lush. dodgy area tho.
the social
Juntion 7 is challenging Rock City for the best venue to see unsigned alternative bands.
Junction 7 in Canning Circus usually has something worth giving a go if you are into alternative stuff.
Also the Angel on Stoney Street has regular punk/rock/alternative gigs.
'The Maze' (on Mansfield Road) has recently re-opened (Dec05) and is back to being one of the greatest small venues in the city. The Social and The Rescue Rooms are also good places for touring bands in a cool venue. Junktion7 and 'The Old Angel' are better for darker stuff. The Frog & Onion (in Forest Fields) and The Town Mill (in Mansfield) are also usually a winner for good local bands.
the Old Angel, Stoney Street,
The Angel. :) Gooood place.
The Malt Cross
The Orange Tree - decent boozer since it was changed from russels
Rescue Rooms
DEMO PROJECT - BluePrint (previously Skye Club), Alfreton Rd, Radford. Fast becoming the stuff of legends in notts music scene, monthly creative political rave with live music, bands, poets, performance arts and film. Fair Trade cafe. www.demoproject.co.uk, all proceeds to campaigns and charity projects.
nottingham arena and rock city are the best
My friends band plays at the Brittania Boat club, always fun.
Junktion 7 on Canning Circus. Great little venue and a cool bar downstairs. I can't believe no-one's posted about this place!
JUNKTION 7!!!!!independent (not owned by the rock city emporium), friendly, lively, cheap drinks, great bands & fit bar staff - do you really need anymore....?????
Rock City - Talbot Street. Great bands play, any major tour will play there.. I think was once voted best venue in the country by Kerrang! (Urgh)
Junktion 7 - Canning Circus - have good bands on & a really good open mic night on a tuesday.
Rock City - Maroon 5 play there on the 5th of October this year
Rock city would have to be the ultimate... the rescue rooms are pretty good too! theres obviously the royal concert hall which hosts people such as jamie cullum (yum!) and will young, then the arena where all the big name pop acts play... ive seen westlife and the stereophonics there.... im going to busted in november (yes im sad!!!)... tho it annoys me, they never get the really big name american acts, i had to go to sheffield to see mr JT twice... and also to see the pop idol tour but thats another story!!!!
ROCK CITY, ARENA
well theres rock city of course where all the mochers go. the bomb has alot of famous dj's aswell.
The Social is always fun for intimate gigs!
BeSt PlAcE iS..............
BUNKERS-HILL next door 2 ice stadium they kewl bands from rock to punk n emo kids are every where (ar the butiful emo kids -- so fit) and PEGGERS is ok i supose it tends to be more nu-metal n its better to go there in summer cus every 1 can sit outside :d {[l8rs xxx]}
ROCK CITY ROCK CITY ROCK CITY ROCK CITY
peggers has sum kool bands on (but is also known as a shitwhole with cranky beer)
DON'T go to Rock City unless you like retarded grungers at every turn. The place is a Goth hell-hole! DO go to Dogma on a Sunday night if you like to unwind with a drink and civilised, chilled, live music. This is a top lounge-bar. The Old Vic also does live music nights, and can be great, although it is a little 'spit & sawdust' for some.
THE ANGEL THE ANGEL THE ANGEL< FUCK THE REST
We go to the famous VICTORIA BIKERS PUB in coalville the best live music venue on this planet for rock related music see www.vicbikerspub.co.uk
ROCK CITY!!!!!, went there for the first time and loved it, apart from the scary goth room i stumbled into whilst drunk, al i remember was everyone in leather and looking scary, as soon as i went up to the bar i felt out of place, ooo the stares...makes me shiver
Rock City...gets all types of rock bands there. I must have been there 10 times this year and seen Less Than Jake, Sum 41, Jimmy Eat World, Hundred Reasons, Queens of the Stoneage....etc
ice arena, rock city, peggers pub for local bands
The Social has always been reliable since it sprouted up a few years ago. there's been more than the odd good band pass through it's doors. It's a bit too dark inside though.
The Rescue Rooms is a top new venue and one exactly the size needed by Nottingham. Perfect for those bands too big for the social and not quite big enough to make the jump to Rock City yet. Means we don't have to travel to leicester as much anymore. Yey!
Rock City. Sticky floors
rock shitty. don't go there.
rock city
The Old Angel OCCASIONALLY has some decent bands, Grade, garrison, And none of them knew...
Besides all the usual places (Rock City, Old Angel, Old Vic) why hasn't anyone mentioned The Social? They had the Strokes play there before they got as big as they are today, so just imagine the acts you can check out and watch steadily become more recognised. The place really has a knack of catching them just as they're about to take off.
Rock City has a great gig guide, with big name bands as well as more local bands on club nights. They also help organise the outdoor music festivals in Notts. For a range of musical genres, the Ice Stadium has had concerts galore, from the tweenies to System of a Down, and steps to Incubus
Rock City of course. Where else is there?
SQUARES. there's a big variety there.
The Old Vic and Social now have gigs populated by very strange people. If you want to upset your stomach....
ROCK CITY. need i say more.
TOOOOO many
ROCK CITY
TOA(The Old Angel)
and loads more just find out by picking up flyers in ice 9 and TOA
49 club Beeston
Rock City, because the Charlatans played there once.
ROCK CITY!!!!
BUT IF U CAN`T GET IN THERE, TRY THE ICE STADIUM- greenday were there last year
Rock City Rock City Rock City Rock City Rock City Rock City....... There is nowhere else of any consequence.
There is only one place for gigs and that is Rock City
Rock City, Old Angel,
The Old Angel on Stoney Street now has live music &d.j's til 2am thursday friday & saturday. Brand new venue supporting local & national talent. 3K sound system not for the faint hearted. Anyone interested in music, food, alcohol & scruffy people are welcome!
The Alley Cafe - Bar, Cannon Court, (opposite the odeon cinema) Three nights a week (Thurs, Fri, Sat ) has some of nottinghams finest talent when it comes to DJ's. including DIY, Bright Lights and Guest DJ's.One of Nottinghams best kept secrets. Cafe open all day, DJ's from 8ish.
The old vic regularly has nights showcasing local bands and all i have seen there have generated a storm.
TOA2 (upstairs in the old angel)
(UK subs playd there a couple a weeks ago!
Rock city doesn't attract anyone good nowadays. Rawk is back on the menu.
White rooms in Sneinton is known to let bands perform and practice-(bit of a shit hole however).
the Running Horse on Canning Circus has regular bands and jam sessions, mainly blues orientated.
rock city
sam fays on london rd, is now called hooters (one of the american owned chain of food and drink venues) the old volunteer on burton road in carlton is the top music venue out side of the city centre, wednesday night is accoustic night ,thursday night is QUIZ night where the legendry (in carlton)game of sticky thirteens is played, friday & saturday are disco nights which see the old place full to the rafters (be there early)
Excellent club/music venue is The Monastery in the Lace Market
The Limelight Bar at Nottingham Playhouse often have live music.
The Wheatsheaf,Ilkeston Rd
Trent University, Students Union, Shakespeare Street
Theatre Royal
Sam Fays, Great Northern Close, London Rd., (0115 953 8333) Royal Centre
Rock City, Talbot Street (0115 941 2544)
Old Angel, Stoney Street (0115 950 2303)
Marcus Garvey Centre, Lenton Boulevard
Clinton Rooms, Thurland Street (0116 255 3956)
Cinemas
let me see, for all you cool cats out there broadway cinema in nottingham is the place to be, however if you love old, slightly damp smelling cinemas, the majestic cinema in the heavily student populated area of lenton is where you want to be.
majestic cinema in lenton, its very old but very romantic, it unbeliveably still has double seats and ice cream is still sold in the interval.
To remember what Cinemas were like before multiplexes go to the savoy on Derby Road. It still has an interval for which you can preorder your drinks at the bar. Its never full of paper rustling idiots either like some others in the city.
Go to the Savoy on Derby Road if you fancy an interval, ice cream vendors and the chance to have a pint in the middle of the film. Its got some tiny screen rooms and some bigger ones, also its cheaper than warner village.
Theres also the screen room which seats 13 people or the Broadway for the more pretentious viewer.
The Broadway (on Broad Street) show arthouse, foreign films, and old classics in luxury seating and they've got a cool bar/restaurant out front.
USC. Orrr... The one that's on the road opposite Void at Hocklet. *Forgot the name!*
SCREEN ROOM - the smallest cinema in the world, the staff are ace and so are the films
Broadway is one of the best independent cinemas i the country
showcase and UGC are the best ones around
The cornerhouse, great, actually a good place to meet also.
Erm, I love the Broadway. It shows loads of less famous films. I saw this great martial arts film the other week, was amazing. In Hockley, on Broad Street.
Broadway. Always lots of rude foreign films
Warner Brother Cinema
Showcase is good but if you happen to sit right under the air conditioning it's too cold.
Showcase near Lenton is ok....£4 still seems pricey for students though...but the seats are comfy and the icecream is nice!
the place is full of wanabie's and townies who go around actin as if there better than every 1 else (keep away ) {[l8rs xx]}
nah, just get in the know with people who have the know how to get em early on DVD
one which isn't mentioned too much is Broadway who specialise in showing independant films, it's situated in the Hockley area.
cornerhouse Warner village is kool and my mate dropped his shoes all the way from the top floor to the bottom in the middle LOL
warner village cinema is pretty snazzy
warner bro's nice place. quite expensive tho
if you want black and white arty german peices or angst ridden gay cinema go to the broadway. its really nice, they have huge seats and organic popcorn. and theres a cafe/bar too! warner bros at the cornerhouse is full of 12 year olds who throw sweets at you and talk all the way through the film.
That new Warner Village is so damn expensive! The Broadway (on Broadway, funnily enough, just off Hockley) has an excellent range of films from obscure foreign stuff to more creditable Hollywood. It also has one of the best cafe bars around where they play background jazz and have art projections on the wall. They do great food and have a great drinks selection - be it international beers, Guanabana fruit juice or fantastic coffee (they used to have free refils on filter coffee but they stuck a limit on 2 once they figured out all us skint students hung out there all day for 75p)
Biggest cinema in notts is Warner Village, in the Cornerhouse, with mainstream box office films. However, for a more cultured independent style film, go to Broadway, in Hockley. It shows international films, in a clean pleasant environment. Also, it has a fantastic cafe bar, with mouth watering food, many different coffees, teas, and beers. Amazing cinema, with amazing food.
Warner Village. I live 5 minutes away and I'm far too lazy to walk to the Savoy and far too poor to travel to the Showcase.
savoy is good coz it's cheap it show's good films they dont mind if you smuggle your own sweets in and its got double seats in some of the cinemas so you can get randy on back row. and the byron in hucknall is meant to be good so i've heard because you can smoke in there.
Warner Village is great. Especially for the skater lads (soz babe)
THere is only one in the city centre and its Warne bros. its good but expensive
Only proper cinema left in Nottingham is the Savoy, Derby Road, which is reet good. Also, there's the Broadway which shows arty films and stuff from Canada.
The Broadway, the friendliest staff in a cinema and the best disabled access by far which puts their high power corporate rivals to shame.
Showcase cinema is the best in town especially now they have gone all Americanised
well theres the showcase where you pay a fiver for a can of coke or the odean which smells of old ladies and seats about 5 people
The Savoy, Derby Road. They still have an interval and a woman who sell ice cream in the interval from one of those refrigerated tray things. Oh and it's still the only cinema in Nottingham with a bar that sells beer before the film and during the interval, and it's cheaper than those bloody multiplex things
dont go picturez, soz?!
The multiplex 'showcase' is full of fascists charging £4.50 for popcorn
The Savoy on Derby Road is quality. Unspoilt by progress it offers cheap seats for student (about £2.50 I think) with an intermission in the middle for purchase of ice creams and organ music. Complete with double seats.
The new laser Quest has just opened and is bigger and better, The ABC cinema has the best popcorn but a poor choice of films
Probably the best thing about Nottingham is the arts cinema The Broadway on Broad Street. View films you can't see at the Showcase multi-plex and check out the Shots In The Dark film festival every June.
Loads of good cinemas in Nottingham, but try the Savoy on Derby Road, Lenton for a student-friendly venue (cheap and good!)
Multiplex out past Clifton is as good as any. The Odeon, opposite Southern Fried Chicken, is OK and does student rates, but some of the 'main' auditoriums are tiny
