• GAz Jenkins ans Sam Culshaw representing NOtts great skaters. ALso Foz who is a damn good beatboxer. Alex and Rob Nelson wicked skaters too. NIk Slater the B BOY!
• GAZ JENKINS!!!!!!!! He's the best skater ever and he's a local Nottsman!
• paul smith used to go to my ex-school, DH lawrence went to notts uni... as did the guy who cloned dolly the sheep! apparantly!
• Kate McIntyre (who used to present kids tv on channel 5 on saturday mornings and apparently does some diy programme now) used to live in Nottingham University's Rutland Hall.
• Krush, who had some house record hit back when it was trendy, came from Beeston.
• Sandy Burnett, record producer, used to live on Melton Road, West Bridgford.
• I saw Charlie from Busted walking up near Select-a-Disc.....does that count?No, didn't think so!
• do not forget bendigo that master of the fisticuffs. and stuart pearce was born in london
• this guy outside superdrug got a record deal (SO FAMOUS)
• Pitchshifter, and the best band in the world EVER, Fudge Tunnel. Dig, founder/owner of Earache Records. (Where did it all go wrong Dig? Earache used to be such an original label, now it's just... well, it's just a mini-major.)
• George Green the world famous Mathemetician and Physicist born 1793 and died 1841 in Sneinton (where he is buried and where Green's Mill still stands.)
• "Gaz Jenkins" on the Osiris, Minute, King, and projects distribution skateboard team. Exrtemely talented skateboarder. works in non-stop and manages the non-stop in mansfield. "Sam Culshaw" on the Adio and Broke UK skateboard team. works in HSC+ and is also a DJ. Both skaters are often appearing in Skateboard magazines such as sidewalk and document and always talk about nottingham if they can. well done guys, we're proud of you!

• Alvin Lee(ten years after)is from Wollaton Rick Kenton (roxy music first bass player) was from Haydn Rd Nottingham
• Dale Winton is Not from Nottingham, he only worked here for a few years and hated it!

• i went to school with steve cherry's son and he's a wanker. (steve cherry used to be goalie for county) Paul Smith does some heavy clothes
• Ian Woan used to live in radcliffe on Trent, brian laws lives somewhere in notts and geoff thomas lives up the A46 halfway to newark
• Tindersticks hail from Nottm (band) Stephen Jones (aka Babybird) was born & lived in Carlton in Nottm
• The Stereo MC's hail from Ruddington. Alan Sillitoe, author of Saturday Night Sunday Morning and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner was from Nottingham.

• Harold Shipman went to High Pavement Grammar School - in my brother's class - Pete Jackson. My 'A' level English teacher was Stanley Middleton - local novelist with 20+ books to his name.

• Steve Chettle, OK he was born in Bulwell but it's still Nottingham

• The Listergate Xylophonist. Casted yet sadly rejected from his role as Popeye the Sailor Man in the motion picture when he refused to play "How Dry I Am" for the producer. This foolish decision left him in a state of misery ever since, and every attempt to play his xylophone results in disharmonic jibberish. Loosing his corn husk pipe didn't help matters either.

• D.H Lawrence was in fact born in Nottingham, and lived here writing numerous and great stories before leaving to explore other parts of the globe.
• Ken clarke lives in west bridgford
• Well, where to start?!?! Famous Nottinghamians include the 'lovely' Sue Pollard (of Hi-De-Hi fame), Peter 'To the Manor Born' Bowles, Simon Mayo, Dale Winton, Duncan Norvell and Leslie Crowther. What a feast of entertainers! Oh, and dont forget Paper Lace (who could forget the haunting and tear-jerking 'Billy Dont Be A Hero')
• Jesse Boot - founder of Boots - a great bloke who gave lots to the city, including parks, roads, university and a famous pharmecuticals company.
• Brian "old big head" Clough Torvill and Dean Paul Smith, designer extraordinaire - visit his original shop!

Buskers, Street Entertainers

• support the random xylophone guy who used to be in front of c&a he's a patron of notts man
• I saw the guy outside of C&A catch a bus in the meadows going towards West Bridgford. there is also a guy that plays the blues onhis guitar outside littlewoods
• The poor old gimmer with the xylophone - God Love Him!
• Has anyone seen the middle aged bible lady who comes up to you telling you your sinning - shes cool and always puts you on the straight and narrow - yer right !
• Xylophone man is an eccentric millionaire. If you can name that tune, you could win ten thousand pounds. If he really likes you, you could be the winner of the lucky xylophone which has earned him such notoriety.........go on, have a go. I named it in 5.
• the old dude with the xylaphone(those bit of metal on a bit of plactic) HE ROCKS!!!!!!!!
• The bloke with the Xylophone. Moves from place to place, but most often outside the old C&A. Bing bing bong, bing bing bong, bong ba-bing, bong ba-bing, drrriinngg. Always smiling and sometimes sings along.
• The man who plays the xylophone with a scruffy dog on a string and sings badly makes everyone feel so much better about their musical talent. The bloke who plays the saxophone is fab however.
• Who doesnt know the xylophone man! Respect 2 him!
• Some Pruvians with Pan pipes and a half decent sound were around the Broad Marsh area Christmas 2000
• Forget the old guy, the banjo guy from Derby sometimes comes to Notts and he plays requests!
• pif who is the ultimate busker...usually spotted on the bus back from town with his guitar looking like a big issue vendor
• There's been an old guy in town for years who sits outside Marks & Sparks playing a Xylophone - he plays nearly the same three notes every time, grins at passers by and plays the notes again. He has kept it up for years and there is no-one in Nottingham who doesn't know him
• Tin whistles and dogs on strings bloody well everywhere
• the man on his zylophone (is that how you spell it???) He bings and bongs away with no tune what so ever, big grin, sits outside McDonalds on clumberstreet. He's famous the local radio station had a competition to find out his name. He wouldn't tell anyone - what an enigma!!

• CRAZY WOMAN PLAYS A LITTLE FLUTE THING OUTSIDE BANKRUPT
• Home of the famous 'Bloke from outside of C&A who plays the xylophone' who is known throughout Nottingham
• Outside McDonalds you can always find an old guy with a glockenspiel playing random notes. He's been there for 32 years now. Two preachers roam around the centre condemning people for no reason, claiming to be 'Christian'
• Crazy bible preachers.
• there is a cool old man who plays the glockenspiel on a little stool but he still owns a fred perry coat.!!!!
• Loads of street entertainment - some good some not. There's a chap with a zylophone who plays incessantly but to no musical effect.
• Everyone one in Nottingham knows this guy who sits outside C&A which a kiddie's xylophone. He just hits random notes, no tune. Quite harmless though and always seems to be happy. Perhaps he knows something that we don't.

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
