Musical Instrument Shops and DJ Gear

  • Just brought BRILL electric guitar with amp lead strap gig bag headphones picks dvd for £99.00how cool is that from THE MUSIC INN ON ALFRETON ROAD. SO HELPFUL even though I am a poor student.
  • THE MUSIC INN SIMPLY THE VERY BEST CHOICE SERVICE AND PRICE.VERY FRIENDLY STAFF ALWAYS WILLING TO PRICE MATCH WITH THE ADDED BONUS OF AFTER SALES SERVICE. RECOMMEND THIS STORE TO ANYONE FROM FOLKY TO ROCK GOD! RIGHT NEAR CANNING CIRCUS THE HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED.AND COOL STUFF YOU DIDNT KNOW YOU NEEDED.
  • Mostly expensive though you can pick up a few cheap 2nd hand instruments from some of the shops on mansfield road by the cemetery.
  • The Music Room (used to be Dave Mann's) on Mansfield Road has a good selection of folk instruments and do repairs for acoustic things. 'Hobgoblin' (on Derby Road) is great for wierd and wonderful instruments and percussion. The Drum Centre (opposite the Ice Stadium) has a huge range of all things drum-related. Sound Control (in Hockley) and Music Inn (Alfreton Road) have the best range of electric guitars, gadgets and rock band stuff.
  • Academy of Sound. Can't remember the exact street name though.. :s.
  • Drum-Stop is a fab new drum specialist opening in Chesterfield on Chatsworth Road. They recently sponsored Warsop Carnival and Battle of the Bands by suppliying an excellent Premier Series Kit specially for the Event. The Owners seem really nice people and know what they are on about. They reckon to be able to get anyhting you need and can advise on everything. Their web site is worth a visit as they are giving a Black Panther Snare away for free !!! www.drum-stop.co.uk Watch out for this place it is gonna be brilliant for people all around the area that are into Drumming. A real specialist is just what we need locally.
  • Solo Music Superstore is on Derby Road Stapleford opposite Pizza Hut. They have a great range of products for musicians, DJs and KJs. Their prices are compaetative and they are really friendly and give any afdvice you need and there is plenty free parking
  • THE MUSIC INN 28/34 ALFRETON ROAD NOTTINGHAMS FAVOURITE MUSIC STORE. CALL IN AND FIND OUT WHY !!!!!!!!!
  • The music room, is about it. Quite new, in vic centre upstairs.
  • Erm.. We got Academy of Sound, Nottingham Drum Centre, and Guitar Base in West Bridgford (Is moving to another road), I'll get back to you on that..
  • GuitarBass in West Bridgeford.
  • windblowers! i love it!
  • guitar base gordon road, for guitars
  • hobgoblin - derby road, just outside of the city centre - sell banjos and the like, a lot of folk stuff and really unusual instruments - the staff are very genuine, cool and friendly
  • Millennium Music near Canning Circus is the best place for high-tech instruments and gear.
  • If you're looking for anything to do with music or stage and disco lighting in the East Midlands then give Solo Music Superstore a try. They are located just off Junc 25 on the M1 (137 Derby Road Stapleford NG9 7AS Phone 0115 917 1718. Great store with very helpfull staff and lots of products. If they havnt got it they get it fast. Check out their web site at www.dekone.co.uk
  • theres one near the ice skating arena. full of guitars drums and stuff. on carlton road.
  • fox's
  • Academy of sound, top floor, Decks. mixers,

  • foxs music store is good for guitars and academy of sound is the ultimate for absolutely everything and nottingham drum store is good too
  • academy of sound (hockley), MUSIC TO MUSIC
  • Rock on music- forest road. best guitar shop in notts! (i'll have the money now simon please?)
  • There's that David something place on mansfield road
  • If you're looking for guitar/bass/drum shops, then i recommend Rock On, opposite the cemetary, The Music Inn on Alfreton Road, Foxes in the Victoria Centre, Nottingham Drum Centre (near the Ice Stadium) and the massive massive Academy of Sound, at the bottom of Hockley near the bowling alley. For more unusual instruments, go to Dave Mann's music shop, on mansfield Road. For wind instruments, again, go to Foxes (a fairly limited selection), or try Hobgoblin, on Derby Road, which has Toot Sweet on the same premises. But, the best wind shop in Notts is Windblowers, at the top of Derby Road, vast selection of music, instruments, and the staff have an enormous amount of knowledge!!
  • there's a shop way out in long eaton on corner of derby road and college street next to a sandwich shop and it's pretty heavy if you like that sort of thing.
  • Acadamey of sound outshines the rest. the guys in there could start a band they are so good at playing the instruments
  • foxes acadomy of sound(i cant spell) and rock on on the top of the hill on mansfield road got some cheap stuff suck up like me and get a great discount
  • Toot Sweet is on Derby Road.
  • Guitar base in West Bridgford. The staff are friendly and one in particular who is tall, skinny, with a shaved head took my fancy
  • Dave Mann's Music - Mansfield Road - been there years and sells some of the wierdist instruments you've ever seen
  • Music Inn, Alfreton Road
  • Light and sound centre, mansfield road, bit Xpensiv, but o.k in my books, nuff sed!
  • Fox's music provide the corporate choice - you can sense the sheer size of the profit margins on every product in the smarmy grins of the sales assistants. They don't like young/poor people there ( and they spend all day 'jammin' on blues standards)
  • Music Inn on Alfreton Road, near Canning Circus is good. Carlsbro (that was - now changed to Academy of Music) in Hockley also very good. Dave Mann's on Mansfield Road is good for acoustic instruments.

Recording Studios, Rehearsal Rooms, PA Hire

  • sound control. look for jack the drum teacher, he's fit.
  • The White Rooms. Basic but well equipped - we started off weekly but now have a residential room.
  • Fat Sounds - We are a Nottingham based PA hire company with a serious interest in the music and musicians we work with. Thinking of hiring a PA? Give us a call on 07970475880! Or visit our website www.fatsounds.co.uk
  • The Rubber Biscuit. A cheap and not particularly good rehearsal space. But a very funny place to go.
  • Rubber Biscuit is relaxed, friendly and really listen to how you want recordings to sound, they have a few rehersal spaces too.
  • Sherborne Sound. Good facilities and great all inc day rates for musicians. Highly recommended.
  • Atom Recording Studio Giltbrook has analog and digital recording facilities and is run by musicans for musicians, probably the best ratea around. Also hires out a great electrovoice P A system with crew for those special gigs. Repair services for studio equipment and vintage amplifiers , guitar and bass setups in fact anything to do with live music and recording ....call Atom 0115 9382943
  • Paper Stone Studio in Sherwood is a great place for up and coming rock bands to cut a demo, small and very friendly.
  • Magnet Studios is Nottinghams only purpose built rehearsal studios. The sound-proofed rooms are acoustically treated, large, clean, & well cared for with great PA's (we even supply fans!! for your comfort). The equipment is of proffessional standard. Marshall half-stacks at £1 per hour anybody? We also supply Gretsch drums, Peavey/Trace Elliot Bass stacks as standard. Ampeg, Mesa Boogie, Fender, Orange amps are also available for hire at a reasonable rate. We also offer a complete backline and PA hire service.
  • Heres one for PA hire. Fat Sounds is like so cool! There gear is real nice and so are they. They know what ther doin. They do have seemingly gone for quality rather than quanty which is limiting but they do still have enough for a standard band to sound amazing. check erm out. I think they have contact info around. Try Yell.com.
  • White Rooms in Sneinton is a bit dingy but dead cheap rehearsal room. They have some very cheap (n slightly naffy) equipment 4 hire too if you are desperate. Squares Studio just off mansfield road (nr richer sounds) did a great job of our demo cd & are reasonably priced too.
  • Confetti studios.
  • there's the best place called the chicken shack - moved recently to st annes I think, (just out of the city centre), but they have a top notch B3 Hammond to use for recording or rehearsing, gives the fattest sound you wouldn't believe
  • The Square Centre is a total rip-off - don't record there.
  • Take 1 on Radford rd. Best for hip hop and r+b, Pristine, square centre, Rehearse at the angel for a small fee if ya ask nicley maybe?

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Nottingham. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Nottingham.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
