Food

  • Marmaris
  • The Chinese Buffet in the Podium, the Lebanese ditto in the ditto, Fishworks in green Street. Best sandwich/deli is Goodies in Larkhall
  • Recently visited Bath and stumbled on a fabulous authentic italian in probably the best position ever, right on the weir, food was fantastic, view superb and atmosphere great, definitely recommend it. Il Tocca D' Italia
  • bongy bo for noodles and quiche, adventure cafe for amazing sandwhiches, retro for cooked brekfasts, Ask has the most amazing spagetti carbonara and bruchetta and has a great atmosphere, the pizzas and cookies and cream cheesecake is delectable! if you want slightly cheaper italian food then the cafe piazza in the podium is nice, for idian i reccomend the desh in weston although a little outof town it does the best onion bajis, for chinease go to the ocean pearl which is an all you can eat buffet in the podium and the food is delicious, for chinease takeaway the golden dragon is good and delivers to the door until late. las iguanas is also very good for mexican and does nice pitchers, good for large groups, very good curly fries and nachos.
  • all a complete rip off, except southern fried chicken and schwartz bros-we love you!!

  • pizza hut pizza express
  • CHOOZER - TOP KEBABS & CHICKEN Takeaway food co

  • Save Schwartz Bros, get yourselves to the Takeaway Food Coy in Larkhall for the best burgers and meal deals in town - and for better value!
  • Re-Opened THE HOLE IN THE WALL Having just looked at your web site, we would like to be recommended. Under New Ownership, Executive Chef Gerry Dowd [Previously of The Waterside Inn in Bray 3 Michelin Stars, Paris House and L’Otalan] Is offering a lunch and pre-theatre menu £9.95 and a supper menu of 2 courses £18.95 and £23.00 for 3 courses. If you have any queries, please get back to us ‘ It’s good to see the Hole in the Wall back on its feet, with new vitality and an obvious commitment to making it one of Bath’s best restaurants again. The menu changes regularly to keep things fresh and the service was exceptionally attentive and friendly. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and hope to see the new Hole in the wall become an old favourite again.’ THE BATH MAGAZINE MARCH 2004
  • cafe shoon deals in good food, but just don't bother at about 1230 til 2 weekdays, or saturday all day as it gets rammed and the hardworkin' peeps behind the fridges get really tired by close. and 'the takeaway food co.' in larkhall are such, such sound blokes who sort you out niiiice burgers (and wicked veggied boigers too mind) so damn quickly that we bought them a 6pack when we left. yep, they're that good. serious.
  • sally lunns woodland pork is quality. in fact, all the deserts are lush aswell. im lovin it.
  • fish and chips resteraunt and takeway near kingsmead carpark.
  • pizza express is very nice, schwartz make the BEST burgers in town.the best burgers infact anywhere. the bath priory does nice afternoon tea.very posh though.
  • rat and parrot...delicious! OOOOOOHHHHHH the INDIAN on chelsea road! get a chicken tikka masala MMMMMM with special rice!!! litten tree...cheaper than the rest and quite tasty!!
  • Well if you're a veggie, looking for somewhere reasonable to eat, where you don't have to worry whether the food really is veggie, try the Porter in George Street. Everything is either veggie or vegan, and there's nothing over a fiver. Looking at the menu, almost everything is home cooked, and having eaten there loads of times, I can believe it - it is all really tasty - delicious even. Everything from Nachos to lasagne to mushroom pies, and the all-day breakfast is totally wicked.
  • Martini's on George Street (top of Milsom Street) is the best for Italian food - it's posh and beautiful!
  • The Walrus and Carpenter is great, it's up from Theatre Royal towards Queen Square
  • The Manhattan (burgers etc) and The Ruposhi (Quality Curries) both take-aways, both on Widcombe High-Street
  • Curry Mahal on Lansdown - the best curries in Bath, friendly and cheap too
  • Forgot to mention - Schwarz Brothers take away - the best burgers ever - including vege or bean burgers.
  • Retro take away, Desh in Chelsea Rd (Weston) - best Indian - restaurant and take away, Marmaris (Turkish - eat in), Mai Thai, Moon and Sixpence (nice but a bit pricey), Tilley's Bistro, Demuth's (excellent veggie restaurant - and I like meat).
  • "Sands" (Lebanese Restaurant, opposite Loch Fyne fish restaurant) is really good. Order Mezzas for starters, which are mostly vegetarian, and great for sharing. There are also a couple of veggie main courses on the menu. There's also plenty of meat: the chicken is very good.
  • Everywhere is too expensive, But the two Swartx Brothers have the most gorgeous burgers known to mankind. KFC, Macdonalds etc etc, is to be avoided if you value getting out of bath alive.
  • SCHWARTZBURGER 'NUFF SAID....
  • The fish and chip shop along the road from the Theatre Royal
  • The best I could find was Waitrose!
  • Go to The Rat and Parrot and have one of their meals to share, onion rings, spare ribs, battered prawns etc. Between 2 if you're both really hungry!
  • Schwartz Bros. and Mr Ds are best in Bath but the best burgers I've ever tasted are about 20 minutes drive from Bath in Charcoal Grill in Keynsham.
  • Bens Cookies - wow, but way too expensive. if you can't afford it just walk past and inhale the cookie fumes
  • Avoid the dodgy burger vans after the clubs kick out
  • The Fudge Kitchen give out free samples if you're a scab.
  • You cannot beat Mamaris and Mr D's
  • Marmaris, great kebabs and mezzes or whatever that mixed everything is called. GreenPark Brasserie, lots of live jazz and fresh food.
  • Want a hamburger? Give McDonald's and Burger King a wide berth, and ask one of the locals where to find Schwartz Bros. The best I've ever had.
  • As someone who finds almost every doner kebab foul and inedible, its worth my mentioning that Bath Charcoal Grill, near the fire station and Henrietta Gardens, does the best kebabs I've ever tasted anywhere.
  • The food in Grapes is really nice and also really cheap. 1/4 pounder with chips is just £1.49 and with a coke it is still cheaper than a McDonalds extra value meal.
  • Superb, very sexy take-away called 'Devon Savouries' (at bottom of milsom st. plus in L. Borough Walls (nr M&S). Excellent quality food, very reasonable, plus good veggie choice, call in for a tasty hot snack, Cheese & Bacon Bakeover, spinach florentine or Mixed cheese baguette is an absolute must!!!!
  • Eastern Eye is good Indian in a fabulous room - an ex-bank being out to infinitely better use.
  • Bengal Brasserie full stop
  • For great food at decent prices try the Wife of Bath on Pierpont Street.
  • Pizza Express (Saw Close) - Traditional and cheap.
  • Maxons - (Laura Place/Argyle Street) All Sorts - good for parties.
  • Sukothai - (Walcot Street) Best Thai - pricey but excellent.
  • Old Orleans - (Bartlett Street) Best Tex-Mex - big portions, cocktails.
  • Caffe Martini - (George Street) Best Italian - cheap, traditional.
  • Golden Plaice - (Cleveland Bridge) Fish and chips.
  • Lotus House - (Larkhall) Great cheap chinese.
  • T.B.F. - The Burger Factory (Seven Dials and Larkhall) serve bison and boar burgers as well as very meaty tasting vegeburgers.
  • Marmaris, best kebabs in south-west.
  • Schwarz Bros., the dog's bollocks for burgers.
  • I think Mr D's at 8 St Georges Place, Upper Bristol Road, definitely deserves a mention. I lived next door for a year and have to say that their burgers are the best. They have also got a chicken burger shop and a mobile van at the bottom of Milsom Street (although they are nicer from the shop).
  • Tasty One - Sandwich/Baguette take away. Walcot Street
  • Schwartz Burgers. Walcot Street
  • Harvest Wholefood store - take away foods. At the bottom (town) end of Walcot Street. It's the dog's bollocks, if you're a vegetarian.

Pubs

  • Ahhh, the Bell, Porter & Green Tree are my favourites
  • The ONLY pub in bath the Hob motherfu**in' Goblin.x
  • Stunning stunning stunning, wow a real pub caters for cyclists with a special menu, couldnt recommend it more my wife and I regularly cycle across mendip cutting through Chewton mendip to west harptree, Tony
  • Boater
  • The Bell, The Porter, The King William, The Hop Hole and Doolallys (not technically a pub but it does have a beer on tap now) are all great. Nearly everywhere else in the city is owned by a major coporation or is just plain dull.
  • The Bell, it's perfect, friendly and full of fun. Most importantly it's not a chain bar or some souless, light saturated wine bar.
  • The Star (Paragon), the Bell (Walcot Street)
  • Hop Pole Inn Limpley stoke, 17th century character fun locals, great beer.
  • the assembly inn is cheap and is your typical pub, the boater has a nice garden next to the river and has fairy lights at night, st christophers is good and quite cheap, wheatherspoonsis very very cheap also does cheap food. for a more classy night out head to rsvp, revolution, pulp, the slug and lettuce, the blue rooms or bar ha ha, bar ha ha is particularly nice with a good atmosphere and monday to thursday does cocktails for £2 (also nice food and nibbles) the rat and parrot is also good for cocktails and does good food
  • for you pub beginners-the boater serves a good pint
  • Avoid the new Wetherspoons at ALL costs
  • rat and parrot and now we have a weatherspoons very cheap bu dull
  • The Firlas near the Larkhall BMX jumps is a favourite, as it really slakes a thirst after a day jumping and getting hurt. And the Wheelrights Arms in Monkton Coombe is belting - good beer, good food. All a man needs.
  • Rat and Parrot. Visited in late October 2004. Very obliging staff allow you to clean your own tables if you are not keen on ruining your clothes.Very friendly bar staff who talk (to boy friends) while you wait to be served. Easily managed portions of food leave room for a take away on the way home. A great place and highly recommended for hard up students who are speeding up the decay of their vital organs and living in poor conditions. Not an appropriate venue for tourists above the age of 19 years old.
  • Enjoy a pint of Bellringer in The Bell on Walcot st or maybe read the paper over a quiet pint of Gem in The green Tree.
  • The Pig and the Fiddle!
  • rsvp has the best qulity for drinks
  • hobgoblin sucks nowadays the bell is kinna lovely but borring and middle aged can get silly busy!!
  • OLD PEOPLES PUB but ladies darts MONDAYS/Tuesdays - Fairfield Arms
  • Hat and Feather Belvedere Wine Vaults The Bell
  • TheHat n Feather and then The bell on Walcot street
  • Check out Doolally's on Walcot Street, Bath - cafe by day and bar/venue by night - they have everything from Stickiton DIY DJ nights to It's Hip To Knit classes, live music, ace vibe & beer!
  • The Piccadilly Inn on the London Road. Many a time have I whiled away life with their cheap doubles (ooh the vodka run on the London Road rules, most pubs it's £2 a double woo hoo!). The Picadilly is gorgeous! Lovely owners and cute dogs!
  • Hatchetts is by far the best pub in Bath. fantastic staff, cheap doubles, a kicking juke box, & none of the fake-ass pseudo goths/rockers that you find in The Hobgoblin. Keep it real!
  • The Bell - the finest ever Pig and Fiddle - the 'Paddy Ashdown' pub Boater - for the rugger chaps
  • the bell is the best, hands down. (unless you feel like pretending you're posh and then the moon and sixpence has got the niceness even though the clientel are shits.)
  • no one seems to have remembered tha very jolly RSVP's bar...always has a good atmosphere and a good place to spot some nice hotties!
  • the porter is good, mostly young people and students..but not trevvy students more your alternative type where the beautiful people go. we always used to go to the rising sun by pulteney bridge.they lend you board games in there and playing cards and theres a pool table.and its full of old people. the hobgoblin is where the college arty people go for lunch.its also where baths whole gothic community hang out.they play the pixies in there though.
  • lamb and lion cossa Vicki the bar maid pig and fiddle cos of fosters amber! rat and parrot slug and lettuce so you can laugh at the posers spending 'daddies' credit card!! battys 4 nice shots! yummy squashed frogs! huntsman 4 a drink when the rest of the pubs r closed, but watch out 4 those twerton people! they r the ones going around lifting your half empty glasses with a fag butt in it, and downing it! the boater...just 4 the beer garden! the boat house! towards B.S.U.C lovely 4 a relaxing day out by the water!
  • Slug and Lettuce attracts all the best looking girls in Bath Crystal Palace nice in the summer The Litten Tree and Smiths are for the townies from Trowbridge who want to deck a couple of students
  • Pub by the canal in Batheaston. Worth the walk/cycle.
  • The Curfew - The best pub I have ever been to watch a football match in. Comfy Sofa's, chilled out sunday afternoons with pool table when Birmingham are playing. The only thing I miss about Bath !
  • The Boater is the classic option for those not up to facing bigger bouncers...and if you don't get in, there's always the Maze next door to hang out in and drink cider or something else suitable.
  • Hat and Feather on a wednesday night, fantastic atmosphere with DJ Derek spinning reg/ska music, also the best selection of bottled ciders i have ever seen in a pub!
  • See above re the brilliant veggie food, but they also do fairtrade organic coffees, organic beers, real ale, supercold guiness, plus live music four days a week and comedy at the weekends! Just a brilliant pub all round.
  • The Hop Pole opposite Victoria Park on Upper Bristol Road is great
  • The Hobgoblin. It just can't be beat. They even serve me - the most young-looking 18 year old I've ever seen. The Horseshoe in Combe Down is nice, and it has the longest Bar in Bath.
  • If you want to meet Pat, go to The Longacre Tavern on the London Road. He wont be pleased to see you.
  • The Hop Pole, Upper Bristol Road. Top real beers and weird lagers. Nice garden. Do not sit near Julian.
  • Hatchetts - monsterously great sunday roasts for only four quid
  • don't go in Huntsman, townies, old slappers and karaoke. nuff said.
  • Warning, despite some of the praise on this site for Flans, it is not a real pub! Just the usual Irish chain nonsense, if you want real try The Salamander, or Green Tree. Fantastic!!!!
  • hat & feather. not so much a pub, more a way of life. if they're over 30 (or if they're succesful) they also drink in The Bell (same place, OK 100yds down the road, yes, a little quieter... sometimes... stick with the independents, smallbrains
  • Green Tree (in Green Street of course)
  • Don't know why everyone loves the boater so much, seems to me to be full of Rather fresh faced individuals. Did i mention that Bath has many many private schools, two of whom seems to live inside the boater at most times.
  • Suspectly young looking drinkers can be found in the Rising Sun, just off Pultney Bridge. Again, too many of the (younger) Prior Park students. I kind of weird land-lady aswell, try getting on to her good sides.
  • THE HAT AND FEATHER IT'S A GREAT PLACE FOR A DRINK AND MUSIC, THE WHITE SHIRT AND CHINOS POSSE HEAD FOR THE SLUG AND LETTUCE, THE MOLES/PORTER COALITION GOES FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH, LOOKING GOOD HEAD FOR THE LITTEN TREE WEEKENDS ARE KICKING LITERALLY SOMETIMES.
  • There is a God, just when I thought Bath had lost the last real pub in the city centre, I walk though the doors at Flan O'Briens and find Myles and his crew have staged a come back. The Guinness is again the best in the UK, the music back to its rocking best and its clean again. There is hope for the drinkers of Bath now the A-Team are back at the pumps!!!!
  • No Wetherspoons, Yates's or any of the cheap and cheerful pubs you find around the country. abysmal. Toilets are always too far awy in all the big pubs (rat and Starret, litten tree. Very expensive, unjustifiably so. Pints only 10/20p off london prices but at least it's good there.
  • What have they done to Flan O'Briens. Once by far the best real pub in the city centre, now its over, the Guinness has gone right down hill, the music in now the same as the rest of palstic Irish bars, bring back Myles and his crew at least the place was rocking. Well now I'll have to find another watering hole. Pitty.
  • New Slug and Lettuce - their potato wedges are the best ever!
  • The Bell is swinging most nights of the week
  • Hatchetts in Queen Street, easily the best pub in Bath, not for the faint hearted though
  • The Rat and Parrot has one of the best atmospheres at the weekend, but during the week they close upstairs which is v. frustrating. Only go to the Slug and Lettuce if you like drinking in a whitewashed, yet dimly lit public toilet. RSVP attracts the rugby team and The Litten Tree a football crowd
  • Bath has excellent bars and pubs. Check out Rat&Parrot, RSVP, Slug and Lettuce, Batys for nice bars but pretty expensive. Savilles is a nice cheap bar but appears to be overiden with pesky PriorPark students (although thats not a bad thing).
  • The Bell - weird
  • The Litten Tree is where all the squaddies go. Its a before Cadillacs place on the weekend. YUK. But when there's rugby on its got a good local atmosphere.
  • Has anyone else noticed that the Assembly is full of 14year olds. You can always find the Bath rugby players in the Boater and what used to be PJ Peppers.
  • Bell. Bell. Bell!!!!! - a classic pub catering for all sorts - if u want a laugh with your mates then it is the place to go.
  • BEEHIVE....landsdown rd. experience the ambience of local old men and women out of their tiny minds on scrumpy cyder...regular police visits, drunken misunderstandings and fights. best juke box in the area and after a pint of the luminous orange stuff it all seems quite normal....really.
  • Kings arms for music. Check out God Save The Queen. a very good punk tribute band. The Boater is a good all round pub with cheap spirits. u can get a double vodka and coke for around £2
  • New Inn, convivial landlord, so long as he has the last word.
  • The Westgate has now been refurbished and is now called the Rat & Parrott. It has a new look and a new crowd(great pub)
  • Flan O'Briens now the only real Pub left in city centre.Great Guinness.
  • The Sportsman in Lower Weston is a large pub which holds karaoke every friday night
  • the wheatsheaf pub at combe hay near bath. i have a web page for this nice pub at The Wheatsheaf Pub.
  • By far the best pub/bar in Bath is Flan O'Briens on Westgate ST. A great pint of guinness good music and with out doubt the best staff in Bath. When you get there ask for Myles the landlord a very funny guy. I had a great time there it made my trip to Bath.
  • `The Hush` ~ formally `The Hub` - chilled out late bar.
  • Sam Weller's once
  • The Old Farmhouse Lansdown Road has Jazz Live 2-3 nights per week FREE! and is soon to have Bath's first Brewery for nearly 40 years next door producing a real ale called Bellringer!
  • The Ram Widcombe five minutes walk from the centre, great atmosphere, good landlord, Simon.
  • The Crown, Bathwick Street. Excellent food at reasonable prices (most starters under £2, main course from £2-13) Friendly bar staff, Sky TV, beer garden and kiddies playground and occasional live music.
  • The Swan Inn, Kingsdown - It has the best pint of Bass in the area, a warm and friendly atmosphere and a great restaurant named Scallywags. As if that wasn't enough the bar is now fully refurbished. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!
  • The Forum & Firkin in Sawclose is a new pub. In the best tradition of all Firkin pubs, it's wooden benches and floorboards. Wierd though, it's got a chandalier!! I think it's going to be a live venue. Could be good. It's on the same site as Joe Bananas, which means Joe's has gone.
  • The Boater's still looking like the best in town, stay out of Flan o'Briens since the brewery ruined it and put prices up. If you do venture to the University, ignore the student bar, as it's got a bad atmosphere and go in the Parade bar instead. A lot more relaxed. Avoid at all costs! - The Loft is an absolute dive.
  • I think think the country pubs section is a bit short. Bath is a superb centre for country pubs. How about adding:
    • The Wheelwrights, Monkton Combe
    • Hop Pole, Limpley Stoke
    • Fox & Badger, Wellow
    • The Inn, Freshford
    • The Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay
  • Live music at King's Arms, Monmouth Place; Green Tree, Green Street, small and non-smoking, real ales; Star, Paragon, sells Bass by the jugful.
  • The Swan at Kingsdown - Gibbs Mew beers plus Bass, pretty stunning views of the valley down into Bath and live music on Tuesday evenings. This is the boozer that was nearly closed about a year ago and it could do with all the help it can get.
  • Hobgoblin's OK; The Bell and The Hat & Feather are full of dross.
  • Notable locals:
    • Cross Keys (Fox Hill)
    • Brain Surgery (Larkhall)
    • Bear (Bear Flat)
  • Further out:
    • The George (Bathampton) - Canalside with good food, Olde English.
    • The Cross Guns (Avoncliff) - Again canalside with good food.
    • Wheatsheaf (Coombe Hay) - Nice country pub.
  • Others:
    • PJ Peppers (George Street) - tacky and common, big, frosted glasses.
    • Hobgoblin (St. James Parade) - wooden, weird ales, cyberpunks hangout.
    • The Assembly (Alfred Street) - the upstairs of the Festival Bar, smokey with a (very) young crowd.
    • The Saracens Head (Broad Street) - locals rather that students, tacky.
    • Sam Wellers (Upper Borourh Walls) - ditto.
    • The Roundhouse (Upper Borourh Walls) - ditto.
    • The Grapes (Upper Borough Walls) - ditto.
    • Bloomsburys (Pierrepont Street) - Unbelievably cheesy. Cheap all week.
    • The Porter (George Street) - Funky pub, dark with club tunes.
    • Coeur de Lion (Northumberland Passage) - Smallest in Bath?
  • Open late:
    • The Loft (Saw Close) - 'til 1, my choice.
    • The Centre Stage (Saw Close) - 'til 1 as overflow for the Loft.
    • The Huntsman (North Parade) - 'til 2, student crowd.
    • The Westgate (Westgate Street) - 'til 2, rough crowd.
  • With open cellars:
    • The Ale House (York Street) - big, students hangout, crap jukebox.
    • The Huntsman (North Parade) - big, expensive, rock jukebox.
    • The Festival Bar (Alfred Street) - new, small, pretty people.
  • With beer gardens:
    • Pig and Fiddle (Saracen Street) - guest real ales, pretty people.
    • Crystal Palace (Abbey Green) - big pub, often very busy.
    • The Boater (Argyle Street) - biggest garden, near riverside.
    • There's also a beer garden at the Lamb and Lion pub.
  • Boater, not bad but landlord is a touch rude. Can't agree with the Huntsman, it's two quid a pint in there. Best pub in town by a mile is the Bear, in Oldfield Park. And I agree with what was said about the Hat and Feather, it's an appalling pub, populated by acid-jazz misfits (and the Hub's the same as well).
  • The best pubs are the Boater, Huntsman and Flan O'Briens. Only go to the Hat and Feather or the Bell if your interests are in things other than alcohol. For drinking purposes it is redundant.
  • Bell, Walcot Street: free live music Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday lunch-time. Was home to Bath's Internet Cafe, but that's closed down.

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • Doolallys
  • Il Tocca for the perfect coffee with a perfect view
  • the Retro is nice and has a good atmosphere, quite trendy and does nice food, the paninis and english breckfasts are good! bongy bo is quite classy and good for people watching, also a bar in the evening and does nice food, noodles and quiche are especially good as well as baguettes and thai chicken curry. the cafe above bloomsburys is also nice, cosy and nice in the winter, does the best lemon drizzle cake and milkshakes and hot chocolate, also does some food, the best place for sandwhiches in bath would have to be the adventure cafe, the Club Class sandwhich is best, with chicken, avocado, cranberry and sour cream on foccacia bread! and nice decoration with pictures from pluto photography and model agency.
  • They got rid of coffee republick! So, many memories, ahh well, cafe Nero is in its place.
  • mcdonalds
  • Retro Cafe FOR SURE... jacket potatoes with Chicken Mayonaise!
  • Bonghy Bo's - You MUST have their noodles! Adventure Cafe do still do THE best milkshakes/ smoothies in Bath Doolally's - The best cafe in Bath! Absolutely unique. Open evenings too.

  • doolally's! wicked coffee, and the owner richard is almost implausibly positive. best to avoid the poetry/spoken word evenings though as they're frequented by knobs.
  • cafe retros quite sweet for a quick coffee catchup with youre mates. nice little place with interesting walls...nice hot choccies too!
  • we love Shakeaway - i think its in beau street. Think the original mcflurrys. Anything you can think of in a milkshake. Difference is that you know what goes into a Shakeaway milkshake - they even tell you the name of the cow that supplied the milk and icecream, and you see it all whizzed up in front of you. None of that out of a machine - don't know where its been rubbish.
  • Rythum and Beans til it shut. Kev the man now owns a bar where Mothers used to be for 10 minutes. If its half as good as Rythum and Beans then it will rule
  • doolallys is very nice.is open late and does very nice banoffe pie. and the hub is good too but rather small. the only trouble with cafes in bath is the price.there are tons of nice cafes its just finding ones that are cheap! unless you go tothe waverly which is home to the guy with the paper-mache hat.
  • starbucks...but get a take away cos there is NEVER any seats!!!!
  • Coffee Republic is pretty cool but you have to watch out for some of the trevs that think they are cool by taking their g/fs there :P
  • Same Same But Different in Bartlett Street has the stupidest name imaginable, but the coffee is excellent and the cakes out of this world
  • Shoon Cafe - next to Starbucks in New Bond Street (nr Milsom Street) is brilliant. Metropolitan Cafe (above Bloonsbury in Milsom Street) is also excellent: vegetarian but small
  • The fine cheese shop - not just cheese (but expensive) also doolally's on walcot street looks good
  • Hardys cafe, on westgate buildings. Amazing breakfast baguettes and lush sandwiches. Cafe retro - banoffee pie to die for.
  • Rhythm and Beans, Monmouth Street..... Cool, relaxing 'get away from it all' atmosphere. The best in Rhythm and Beans!
  • Retro Cafe (York Street - behind the Abbey) - good cappucchino, good atmosphere (can be smokey - but that suits me), good music, good food, nice staff
  • The Hub Cafe, Northumberland Place
  • A friend recently counted that there were 14 cafes in Bath, and there really arn't any amazing ones. Except of course for the adventure cafe, and the green cat ( in the corridor ) The cat does truely amazing milkshakes and not too pricey.
  • The Green Cat Caffee is gorgeous, normally full of young trendy types or private school kids, but it's still worth it just for the bacon sarnies. They used to do the most amazing ben and jerries milkshakes, but since i was the only one buying them, they stopped. Oh and Starbucks next to the shoe shop is pretty nice if you can get a sofa, as is Caffee Cadbury.
  • ANY PUB IN BATH WILL SELL YOU A COFFEE, ALSO MY BANK'S A COFFEE BAR the old Abbey National building opposite the ROUNDHOUSE, AND OF COURSE WINDOWS ART CENTRE.
  • Very poor
  • Bonghy Bo's has a lovely hidden courtyard (go upstairs in Habitat or Laura ashley and out the back)
  • Ther are now two new Starbucks and the one at the top of town is much nicer. Go there not the one by M&S.
  • Try Phipps (only cos I have a daughter who works in one on a Saturday) No nepotism here!!
  • Retro Cafe is full of the alternative types. The chocolate milkshakes at The Adventure Cafe rock.
  • Go Adventure!!! - Situated in George street above milson street, Adventure cafe has food to die for and i swear that the chocolate milkshakes there are better then sex!!!
  • Adventure Cafe (sexy waiter)
  • Don't bother with them, they are expensive and full of either snobs or tourists.
  • Caffe Uno

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Bath. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Bath.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
