Musical Instrument Shops and DJ Gear

  • DO NOT GO TO DUCK SON AND PINKER UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY 20% MORE THAN RRP. ALL THE STOCK IS DAMAGED/BANKRUPT/OR STOLEN AND THE STAFF ARE USELESS TROLLS WHO CAN'T GET A JOB IN MACDONALDS ESPECIALLY PHIL AND LUCY THE UGLY ONE. THEY ARE CROOKS AND PROBABLY DO INDECENT THINGS TO SMALL ANIMALS TOO. VINTAGE AND RARE ARE EXCELLENT.
  • sounds international for guitars, suck son and pinker is shocking, go to bristol for anything other than guitar.
  • Duck son and Pinker are the best. They have a wide range of instruments. They have a number of new staff who really know there stuff. They are always willing to help, except the guy with the london accent, who is extremly rude and arrogant.
  • bath music centre
  • The Bath Music Centre, below queen square towards vicky park
  • There's a shop around the back of Milsom street but i can't remember the name has lots of guitars though.
  • Ducks - has never been the same since Kerry left, also Colin and the others....
  • Duckson and pinkers??!
  • Sounds International!! (MFTK Custom Cables ;) )
  • The antique guitar shop up the small alley from milsom street. This place is truelly fucking awesome, I would be in there everyday cept i am left handed (bah humbug). Check it out, the guys in there are uber nice nad not show-offs, its great to just listen to the amazing customers they get (all good guitarists go here cos they only sell super expensive guitars) or to just go down into the basement and chil-out on the huge cream leather sofas that they have. Tuck into all the guitar-world back issues they have stuffed down there and check out the oddities that are rare guitars.
  • Duck Son & Pinker
  • Duck, Son and Pinker and dodgy as hell. But don't blame the staff they're only trying not to get fired.
  • Sounds International is the best of a mediocre bunch, unless you want to be overcharged for common-or-garden equipment (Duck Son And Pinker), or pay pointlessly stratospheric prices for over-rated second-hand equipment (Vintage & Rare). There's another one in Monmouth Place near Sounds Int but I don't know the name. Assembly Music has closed (shame). To be honest, Bath's not the best place to buy your gear.
  • Duck son & Pinker. Not the best. But its next to the Podium. Bath Music Centre, somewhere near Greenpark station?? And i think there's a guitar shop near that...
  • Ducksons
  • several around the podium area
  • Bath music centre, Sounds interational, don't go to duckson and pinker, they sold me a dodgy trumpet!!!
  • Duck Son and Pinker is near Pultney Bridge, Its very over priced, alot of the arrogant middle class take there whining brats here when they decide they must have a guitar. The staff are really unfreindly and useless at being helpful, they just sit there playing guitars looking moody. For a better deal head over to Sounds International on the Upper Bristol Road. The staff really are freindly and know there stuff, they also tend to give more deals and discounts and there insruments are cheaper.
  • duckson and pinker is 1 of the best in the town center
  • vintage guitar centre rocks i get to play £3000 gibsons and the boys who work there are charming AND CUTE!!!
  • Vintage and Rare - expensive but worth it!
  • the bath music shop, duckson and pinker
  • Not Duck.Son and Pinker thats for sure.probably that one up by the antiques centre that sells really expensive guitars or the bath music centre.God ducks are so crap!
  • duckson and pinker
  • duck, son and pinker (or as it's known in the trade 'dusty's, or f*ck, c*nt and w*nker) here's what to expect: a facefull of attitude from chris, but dave and shaun are the peeps you want to speak to. dave knows loadsa stuff about all things musical, and shaun is possibly the nicest guy ever to have existed. avoid 'conrad' like the plague (they're their own brand and the sales geezers been told to push them even though they're utter shite. it's worth knowing however, that most of the guys there feel pretty bad about pushing rubbish though...)
  • If you need any equipment for almost every instrument it has to be Duck Sons and Pinker at the end of pultney bridge. Special recommendation for the drum dept upstairs, with Dave in charge this is the place to get your drum gear from.
  • duck son and pinker is probably the best.
  • Duck Son and Pinker drum section upstairs. Manager Dave knows everything there is to know
  • Well, I suppose Ducksons is the only place worth visiting If your after guitar/bass/drums/piano/sheetmusic/most anything else
  • ducks, never been the same since ped colin and karens time though.
  • Duck, Son and Pinker
  • Sounds International, AND the Schooly looking shop at the back of the Percy Boys Centre near the decorators.
  • four words: 'duck' son' 'pink' 'er'
  • Duck Son and Pinker
  • duckson and pinker
  • for christs sake ,dont you know about Assembley music, its the best in the world, wake up and smellthe coffee son!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Ummmm...not unless you count that tiny one by Pultney Bridge.
  • The one on Pultney Bridge fixed my disco once

Recording Studios, Rehearsal Rooms, PA Hire

  • DON'T GO TO THE FOUR ACES AKA FOUR ARSEHOLES UNLESS YOU ARE INTO JAIL BAIT AND DRUGS AND STOLEN EQUIPMENT. TRY SOUNDSKITZ OR BRISTOL
  • Four Aces, used to be called glasstone studios, £20 for 4 hours, bargain, run by emo's...
  • 8 miles south of Bath is Western Star studio, near Midsomer Norton. Great place.

  • word! Paranormal studios is top notch: friendly atmosphere, kick ass sound. Having used pretty much all the studios in the area, I urge you to check it out dudes! The live room is sweetly designed, i've used it for rehearsal and recording and it delivers the goods on both accounts, lovely warm vibe that really lets your sound come through. The control room boasts all of the necessary kit, pumping valves and compressors that'll knock off yer panties. Shorn Rah offers serious experience and a love of music that really comes across, unlike so many producers i've worked with, yes mate. The quality of the finished product is ace, the process is enjoyable, and the price is affordable.Honestly guys, i have'nt found better.
  • one word: moles... Battle of the bands people comeon! yea
  • Paranormal studios on lower bristol road! with the expertise and extremley chilled out vibe at paranormal , shorn rah made sure when we left we had our moneys worth!it seemed an effortless experience and also completley fullfilling as to what we needed to achieve. a beautiful acousticly designed live room and enough tools and knowledge in the control room to sink a ship made sure we have a completley rockin new cd! we must not forget the extremley profesional promo video he also masterminded and created for us on a serious budget, yes mate!this guy put in a lot of extra work for us to make sure we sounded and looked the biz. cheers shorn! 10/10
  • Moles, great studio and has played host to everyone from the Cure to The Cooper Temple Clause and The Coral to Placebo. Real World is amazing but expensive.
  • Real World Studies. the best around here, but its shown in th eprice. all the big (and bigger) names have recorded there from New Order to Kylie to Chikinki to The Depature, the list is endless. They have a rehearsal room that is reasonably priced too.
  • moles very old and well know in the business
  • Paranormal studios is kinda cool, will have to put up with Shorn Rah though.
  • Glass Tone who currently run a Studio near Windsor Bridge are opening a great new Studio Complex nearer the centre of Bath, near the Green Park Tavern. Offering 3 affordable Specially designed Rehearsal Rooms and 2 recording studios, Mastering, Top Producers. it will be baths biggest, and most well equiped - from vintage valve gear to a Baby Grand to digital desks and pro tools mix plus system. But all affordable to all. THe Centre will be The Glass House and also features Roger Boltons TV music studios. A lot of Charity based work is will also be based there as well as Training. Glass Tone Also promote a large number of gigs and touring bands inc Moles Club, Cheek out: www.glasshousemusic.co.uk, info@glasshousemusic.co.uk, Tel: 07973 730161
  • shorn rah runs this amazing studio(paranormal studios) by windsor brigde.he's one of the best producers i've experienced and has built these totaly numpty acoustic enviroments so all the recordings are real and not coloured by the room! lots of valve equipment which i have to be careful with! so many nobs and buttons it makes your eyes go blurry....but best of all is how lush it sounds he made my tune sound like track off "O.K computer" and that rocks....i think he might have a half price rate deal where he squeezes you in slots between the big customers...check it out!
  • NAM in Holt is an affordable friendy studio run by Nick The Riverside in Bathford/ Batheaston has accomodation too and is prob the best studio around these ere parts! Talk to Seb.
  • Soundcat P.A.hire...thats the bloke who does the bell on walcot street, and invention[windows] art centre he allways gets a good sound and you can hear yourself real good on stage.
  • the lodge studio is next door to the crown at bathford, there seems to be a lot of activity there
  • Warehouse thing halfway up london road behind the wine merchants, don't know the details but its great to play there, secure lock up etc. Or Music room in University if you know a student

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Bath. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Bath.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
