Food

  • The Old Barn, just outside Harborough in Glooston. Top nosh in a friendly country pub - Great Chef! (Phil)
  • The Shaghorika has an excellent menu and is the most established and best curry house in the area. The Service is excellent and you feel you are getting a real taste of India. The Pizzaman continues to thrive and is great for an inexpensive treat.
  • The Shagorika does an exceptional Good indian,st marys road.Theres a mexican on the square and a french resturant Elliots, but you cant raise your voice above a wisper.Peace is a very good chinese restuarant, and service is ace.
  • OH so many Dail a curry from the Royal Bengal spend a £10 and get loads of free stuff. Lots of chips shops and chinese's Sugar loaf good for cheap student food as well.
  • Try the barbeque chicken focaccia roll from wesses on the square
  • ABBEY COTTAGE- EXCELLANT CANTONESE RESTAURANT/TAKE AWAY
  • Han - definitely the best. Pizzaman - excellent food (not just pizzas!)
  • Han-the best oriental dishes in the country
  • Only fast food outlet is KFC. Restaurants/cafes include Auldwinkles and the Baptist cafe. Pizzaland is great for eating in and ordering out. Plenty of Fish and Chip shops, the best probably being Caspian and Blue Wave.
  • no mcdonalds, but a KFC and a few chip shops
  • Joules eating house at the top of the High street, a bit pricey but great food!
  • We have a lovely Italian on Abbey St, but you find its very popular so phone in advance is good advice. Also four Indian Restaurants, a couple of Pizza places, and the two lovely restaurants at the Three Swans and the Angel Hotel , plus many others dotted around the town.

Pubs

  • The Peacock is now out of fashion with revellers going to the cheap and gossip filled Sugarloaf. The Square is small but very modernish for a town of Harborough's reputation. The Freemasons alas is with us no longer and is replaced by a very Gay sounding 'The Village' which is reputedly a sports bar! If you intend to go out in this town check out the Kings Head and the Three Swans.
  • Sugarloaf, Weatherspoons pub = Cheap beer !
  • The red cow serves original beers, but is something out of a american werewolf film. The three swans is a top hotel pub and is renowened for a spanish waiter haunting the pub after he was burned alive,so thee ledgend has it.
  • The town won't be the same again since the six packs closed but theres still plenty of pubs to make it a good night out. No dress codes at any as far as i know.
  • Red Cow - half way up High St. Small, scruffy but good.
  • Plenty including the Cherry Tree, Boscoes, and the Bell.
  • Various types in MH - The Peacock is the liveliest. The Cherry Tree, just outside the town centre is an old style pub - whitewashed exterior walls, thatched roof etc. Beer is good here.
  • New pub The Sugarloaf for good cheap bear and spirits.
  • The Peacock is well worth a visit...at the corner of St.Mary's Road and Northampton Rd.
  • Loads of pubs , about 15 , not bad for a town this size. Why not organize a family outing trying to cover them all in one day.

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • Aldwins used to be very high quality, but may have gone downhill, have not dined there for a few years. Aldwinkles used to pay workers £1.50hr which propably explains the impolite temperament of the staff! The Square is good for a coffee. Elliots screams middle Class and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
  • The Square Bar in the day serves coffees food etc.In the summer they have a summer spot outside right on the square with tables and chairs, very sheek and relaxing.Joules up the high street has a rear coffee garden which also does good food.
  • Shaws resturant/wine bar/cafe is great really friendly bloke who runs it. Tends to get over looked cos its only a small place between the swans and the Angel.
  • "the square"- minimalistic, and groovy
  • "THE SQUARE" IN THE SQUARE- REALLY MODERN BAR/CAFE
  • DO NOT go to ALDIN'S.THE FOOD IS WASTE PRODUCE. ALSO, ALDWINKLE'S STAFF ARE evil...

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
