Favourite Building
Little Bowden Primary School. Simply for being a working place to many excellent teachers, but unfortunately useless dinnerstaff!
The Old Grammer School, It puts £1000's on House prices
The old church in the centre rapped in history, and me and my mate blakey climbed the scaffold one night when the church clock was being renavated and changed the time.Drunk may iI add.
sainsbury many a night spent outside there trying to pull 6th formers.
or the old swimming baths
NOEL HOUSE- LEICESTER ROAD
My favourite building has to be the Church Tower, ST D. as it is the only thing i look at out of my bedroom window every morning!
That would have to be the Old Grammer School (built in the early seventeenth century). Its picture appears on everything associated with Harborough.
The Old Boys Grammar School, in the town centre. Medieval wooden building on stilts.
The Council Offices & Museum now occupy part of the old "Liberty Boddice" factory, Symingtons...it's a smashing old Victorian Building...shame they pulled down the rest !
Demolish It Now Building
The Old Grammer School is a vestige of the wonderful past, it would be a fine relic if the citizens and Council actually moved on from the groupthink from whence it was built. Destroy the useless thing it probably costs more to keep up and running than the Government puts into the NHS.
my crappy semi
The Golden Wonder building on high street. Its so 60S and clashes with the whole street.
the cottage hospital. Does anyone go in it anymore? whats the point in it.
those stupid new houses up leicester rd, horrible eyesores, it used to be a haven for wildlife now its just tat. it real pigs me off!!!
The old grammar school- it really means nothing
ROBERT SMYTH SCHOOL
Shire press (gut it & turn it into a printers themed pub instead - keep saturday boy though, adds to the character !)
Generally very nice architecture. the only eyesore (old HP foods factory) is being knocked down anyway.
26 Heygate Street
the library- with the librarians still inside!
The robert smyth school, Harborough theatre and The old grammer school.........
THE ROBERT SMYTH SCHOOL, BURNMILL ROAD, also the rest of the town if you want!
The Old Grammar School...it's a relic from the 16th. Century...and it's used to sybolize Harborough at every given opportunity...it's ugly, and seems to hold back the town into the past, instead of letting things move on !
The Best Things
LOTS OF INDEPENDANT SHOPS AND FREE PARKING
A few excellent teachers GREEN, KENDALL, POOLE, SMYTON, KNOX, WARD, DAVISON, CHERRY, COTTRELL, ROGINSKI, MURRAY and the fighting spirit of the labour club.
Harborough Carnival, lets see if we can beat 10 floats and a couple of pickup trucks this year.
Welland park, nice walk, Oxenden Tunnels For mountain biking or cycling
Loads of free parking.Extremely disabled freindly, and just a nice warm welcome off everyone.
As its only a small town when you go out you will also meet someone you know. Most people are dead friendly to.
The Market harborough Youth theatres productions.
If you like Walking or cycling, then Harborough has the perfect remedy.
You can cycle or walk down the disused railing track, now converted into a
nature trail. This track extends all the way to Northampton, and holds some of
the most beautiful countryside for miles.
No traffic to spoil the peace and tranquility and no hills along the way, so
no hard work involved.
You can start your journey at Little Bowden, close to Protheroes Garage and in
no time your in the countryside. There are plenty of Benchs along the way for a rest, and picnic areas are positioned in quite spinneys.
For the real adventurous, and wish to cycle 6 miles or so, you can travel
through 2 long tunnels, each with a length of approximately 400 metres.
(Bring a touch if you have one).
Nice town with friendly people especially at woolworths!!!
THE HOPE OF LEAVING THIS TOWN ONE DAY!
MH is a pleasant county town with reasonable leisure facilities. It's central location, as well as being on the main line to London means it offers lots of flexibility for working locations; Birmingham, Leicester, Northampton, Peterborough and London are all commutable
Free Parking and plenty of room to shop ( ie. St.Mary's Place )
The Worst Things
The fact that everyone I ever met from there seems to remember it fondly
NOT ENOUGH PARKING SPACES
Lots of antisocial egotistical people who think they are of a benefit to the world. Also mindless vandalism of war memorial, cemetries & remembrance gardens
CONSERVATIVE HEGEMONY, LIBERAL HYPOCRITES and the absense of a strong Labour *Party representation. Don't worry though as soon as I graduate I'm coming home for a BATTLE.
*The hardly spoken about drug problem. When the Council recognises this evil and doesn't just sweep it under the carpet it might get a little more respect from resident.
*The North/South divide, the Harborough district is very good at keeping the wealthy residents happy, to the expense of the poorer ones I suspect.
*Finally and perhaps the most pertinent. Harborough is a 'c'onservative town and its folks on the whole are very narrow minded and sometimes quite intolerant. This needs to change before the place where I was born can be called 'Home'
For a town this big they have no 24 hour garages open.
House prices are tooo high and the like of David wilson are only building massive 5+ bedrooms. Hell for 1st time buyers
everything, man!
The whole town is really shockingly bad don't bother coming here.
The council.
the library-absolutely useless
Harborough Theatres productions.
Townies on the square at night when the old folk hate walking down there being scared they might get mugged!!
Very Conservative (yes in the political sense) and also orrientated very much towrds the older generations.
There is nothing to do and no where to go at nights for young people that are to young for the pubs.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
