Food
We seem to be lacking the Ritz.......but any day now.
Cairo kebabs being a life-saver. Forget the ones on the sea-front, you should see the state of the people who work in them.
cozy cafe, Manning road, reasonable food at family prices.
Lee On chippy on Wadgate road - does it still sell the Big R burger - two of those and you stuffed like a very stuffed thing after being stuffed a little more
Diana Barnard Catering, has employed half of Felixstowe at some point, new golden boy is Noddy. Great food, great woman, great stuff!
Sorry guys - The Sherebangla deceased ages ago - Now known as Sagor Spice - Gaudy exterior - I've never dared try the food!!
macdonalds drive thru place, lee-ons take away, magic wok, golden panda, cheungs
The Victoria down at the Ferry must be the best place for a pub meal in town.
And a nice location for a walk afterwards along the sea front.
Or alternatively if you like Fish and Chips try the Ferry Cafe (if you don't mind formica tables and being served by old ladies).
All the major food groups on offer here, plus all the usual contaminants: Botulism, E-Coli, Legoinnaires disease, Salmonella.........
Avoid those cafes to which the rats bring packed lunches.
The fish & chip shop (Muddocks) is, as someone else said, very good - traditional seaside grub! Also, try Nuts & Honey on Bent Hill (near the seafront) - delicious roast dinners at a good price. And look out for the painted flowers on the walls.
I feel that the Sherebangla curry house deserves a mention as the least busy restaurant in the universe, despite having been frequented by Benny Hill (proof of this is in the window).
Bumpers in the High Street has great jacket potatoes and there's a good chip shop by the Methodist church.
Pubs
The Owl and Pussy Cat for the Freight Forwarding, Shipping and Haulage crowd, all bottled beer and identity tags, tattoo's and sovereign rings. The Grosvenor for drunken dockers, taxi drivers and the unemployed. The Ferryboat Inn and Victoria for the sailing set, who appear to be inextricably linked to the Felixstowe God Squad.
The Grosvenor was crap, is crap and will always be crap - but we were all young and again you could pull.
Hoot and Muff was good until they removed MY leather sofa and started serving Hungry Horse meals - who cares if the horse is hungry, mine's a pint of Abbots
The White Horse in Church Road, Old Fx. Very good food.
The Grange (formerly Ordnance) also good and popular.
owl and the pussycat, fludyers
the tap and spile is now called the half moon, its original name since 1792 and it serves the best pint in town, no food no music no fruit machine. Patrick is the bow tied landlord
The Victoria is best for a pint of Adnams and just across the way try the Ferry Boat Inn for a pint of Tolly's out of a cask.
British Legion
What the f*ck IS a fludyer anyway?
I'm sorry, but The Grosvenor deserves a mention. It may have crap decor and a few resident nutters, but where else has such a fine selection of games, Elvis tracks on the jukebox and young people having fun
If you must go to Felixstowe, go to the Cork bar. Its really worth the time, Dan and Graham are top blokes (owners) and the beer is first rate.
The Tap & Spile on Walton High Street opposite Roger Miller Cycles is an excellent pub for strong real ales that make you fall over.
The Cork (downstairs from Metropolis) is a good pub.
The Fludyers Arms does good nosh.
The Waverly is a quality pub which arguably serves the best pint of Boddingtons in south east England and it's just round the corner from the Metropolis.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Yes well, what can you say? Adequate and that's about all.
The modern coffee house has sadly passed Felixstowe by. However, Bonetts at the top of Bent Hill (sic) do a nice line in cups of Alzheimer’s.
Bumpers will always be the place, although the girls behind the counter do seem to be getting rather young...
Certainly one of the most talked about places in Felixstowe is The Ferry Cafe, surely an institution in its own life time. I am sure some of the staff joined from a YTS and still there, bless them.
Bonnets in Hamilton Road. 1930's atmosphere. Very good coffee.
Cliff Cafe, top of Bath Hill. Out of the way but worth a visit.
Hamilton Tea Rooms, Hamilton Road. If you are looking for somewhere nice try one of these.
