Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
The Huanted Hanger otherwise known as Indie Night at the Corn Exchange. They sometimes play good music. But its rare; Bar Blue; Splits and the Bandbox - they're the same as they were twenty years ago - my mum used to go!
splits middle of bent hill
la plage changed to central park but is now 'lix' as in fe'lix'stowe but that is about the only thing about it that has changed
band box is still the same except the 'artwork' on the walls has been pinted over by a brick pattern, still the only plave to go to after the pub on a friday night...unfortunatly
cj'c become republika, then uncle wills, then the wave and now blue club and the sparts bar is now blue bar....still empty tho!
The Band Box....why is it we are all compelled to go there on a friday night to listen to gavin the DJ play all the songs, in the same order, that he played last week, and will play again in Lixs on saturday night? And have you ever seen the glass collecter woman in there? you know the one....pre-historic with a mullet and white clogs.....
Bar Blue very good
Club Blue! Student night, Thursday night, entry cheap and bogof drinks... AND OMG its alternative... and cheese... always with the cheese :)
bandbox(nee metropolis)....dive but always good fun after the grovesner
la plauge?...was central park...now lix and is getting progressivly worst with every name change
coco's? then cj's then republica, then uncle wills then the wave (or the other way round) now blue club with the sports bar beneath bar blue...its very modern...check out the tills, thurs day nites bf 12 is 90's music which brought a tear to the eye
Labour Club sometimes has good music on Saturday night & the beer's cheap
if you like your music on the cheesy side, dont mind your feet sticking to the floor, being surrounded by slappers, men whose knuckles scrape along the floor then bandbox is for you
the banbox is good so fuck off
Lixs - Which was Central Park, which was La Plage. Still never been there, so I can't comment. Does general dancey type stuff, I believe.
Bandbox - Like a pub with a dancefloor. Makes one think of a wedding reception, especially since half the clientele are over 30-40 - so it's a bit like watching your slightly ratted uncle trying to get a groove on. The other half of the clientele look remarkably young for their, perfectly legal, age of 18. Ha-hum.
The bandbox is always good for an interesting night out
The Band Box - Dodgy decor and dodgy looking characters dressed in wierd clothing. This is a got to visit venue if your up for it with a fat chick or an eighties throwback!!!
the wave, bandbox and central park
The Band box is ace cos its dead cheap...has easy women...contains all my mates...and people loan you their money when your skint !
I LERV THE BAND BOX......BUT YOU DO NEED TO BE PISSED AND HAVE A MAD LOOK ON YOUR FACE, RIGHT =;0}
Band box-used to be a band venue, until they started making more from dance music.Up for it atmosphere most of the time, it is where the older clubers of felixstowe go so there are a few ugly women and is a bit dirty, localls call it the dirt box ( up the dirt box) . reasonable prices, bouncers complete wankers.
central park-newly referbished thus quite expensive. Plays garage house etc... most of the young people of felixstowe go here, so there are a few fit ladies, but watch out for jail bait. Two dance floors, quite a large club, wooden floors, bouncers complete wankers.
Well, if u r like me and don't like dance music etc then you may as well forget it. Their is the wave nightclub by Mannings which has changed names more than i remember and is now closing again for refurbishment. then there is central park, which does do an occasional rock night and good karaoke on a wed night !!! You also have the bandbox and splitz etc.
The Herman-de-Stern disco's.
there all shite.
and you'll probably get beaten up by the slags wearing pvc and nothing else.
The Metropolis was a classic nite-spot - who on earth dreamed up the shite Band-Box????
cj's, bonds, splitz bandbox

Things have got better recently with the arrival of METROPOLIS a bar/club, much nearer the centre of town than COCOS. Music's a bit better, charty dance etc. Good drinks promos, free to get in (most nights before about 10pm). Stays open 'till 2am. Decent boys out for a laugh and some hot sexy seaside girls. The Metropolis no longer exists and there is a new club called La Plage. Score out of 10 err... 3. All the people described above have now moved there!
Only one club 'COCOS NIGHTSPOT' - name says it all! This has to be one of the cheesiest clubs in the UK. Music by Whigfield, 2-Unlimited, Stars-on-45's etc. (I think you get the picture). It's small, it's expensive, the lighting rig is like your 2 yr old nieces night light, the men look like Tom Selec (Magnum 'PI') and the women are some of the dodgiest scrubbers you'll ever see. Worth a look in for a laugh, but sadly most of the gits who go there will probably try and pick a fight with you just because you're not wearing a fosters printed polyester shirt and a burtons suit (shiny shoes with fake plastic buckles optional). "Coco's" is no longer called "Coco's" but the very tacky "C.J.'s"!!! By all accounts it's still just as bad as it always used to be though...
Live Music Venues
Splitz on Bent Hill has live music every Thursday night. The bands change but most have an indie/rocky feel.
The corn Exchange or the Regent Theatre in Ipswich sometimes have live bands and the pool club in Ipswich. Regent Theatre once had Westlife - which was...well, I don't really need to say.
The Cork (once called The Seaview Bar...) now has live bands on 3 nights a week (Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays) and often reasonably good ones. The Falcon, after a bit of a quiet spell, seems to be hosting bands just about every Saturday night. The Owl & Pussycat has a live band on Saturdays but hardly any clientelle - a shame because sometimes the bands are really very good.
Come to LIX on a Friday night for their new LIVE 'N' LOUD night which showcases the latest in local bands. Often 2 or 3 bands every Friday night with a DJ before and after.
Open from 8pm with entry 2. They also have drinks promo's and an under 18's Bar.
Truely a great night out for rock and indie fans....
Spa Pavillion for a Chance to see fairly good shows and comedians
Customs Club, for all your life after marvin, 83 and el spoonio needs..
Felixstowe Labour Club in Walton is good venue for local bands
Local Soul/Disco 7 piece outfit 'Night Birds' play there regularly
Labour club
Um... The Bandbox was meant to be a venue for local bands. But no-one ever plays. There's no real "alternative" music scene.
The Spa Pavillion is host to all your Nan's favourites, like Glen Miller's Jazz band, Perry Como, etc; the people your Mum fancied - David Essex, David Cassidy, and also children's tours... yes, the Chuckle Brothers have been here. Wow.
The Spa Pavilion has such classics as "The Meatloaf Experience". The Leisure Center and the Bandbox occaisonally have local bands play. Walton Town Hall hosts the infamous "Dance High", perhaps the only event outside of Germany which still plays techno and happy hardcore.
Spa Pavillion.
Best music venue in Felixstowe has to be the Falcon in Walton. Good accoustics and good range of bands play there.
Helmut Coal and the shafter's once played at the Walton Church Hall - bostin!

The falcon in walton has bands every two weeks excellant
FOR YOUR OWN SAKE DO NOT ENTER ANY CLUB IN FELIXSTOWE AS THEY RANK AMONG THE WORST IN THE WORLD.
The Spa Pavilion Theatre (on the seafront). Rarely does gigs but occasionally you'll find acts like The Commitments and The Blues Band nestled in between Val Doonican, The Nolans and Rolf Harris!
Cinemas
Terrible ,awful olny two screens crap uncultured Amercian films no choice and expensive £5 for what youre getting .
The ironically named “Palace”. A total flea pit, even to the standards of easily impressed Felixstowe residents, who can often be bribed with pieces of tinfoil. The best cinema in the area is probably Woodbridge’s Riverside Theatre, but Ipswich has a big CineWorld too.
the Palace Cimema is a great facility, and one that we will lose if it is not used more. Yes by all means go to Ipswich if that is what you want but for my part a stroll up to the 'local' to see a reasonably up to date film and then to be able to have a meal in one of several restaurants in town after (or before the show) is great. Yes, the staff may be less than young and the cimema a little quaint but to me that is an advantage, a pleasant and friendly venue, long may it continue.
To all the disparaging critics here - you have no soul. Felixstowe Palace cinema is truly magical, and it will be a tragic loss if (or more likely when) it changes or disappears. True, it is old fashioned, but where else can you get a cup of coffee brought to your seat in a proper mug? Where else do you get polite service from long standing friendly staff (compared with the grunts from 5-minute teenagers in the Ipswich mainstream cinemas). The Palace is not used nearly enough, and that will no doubt be its downfall, though should that happen it will be sadly and sorely missed by the discerning public. Long live the Palace - that's what I say.
If you don't mind the shabby out of date cinema than you can go to the Palace (which does have a certain charm!)in Felixstowe on the otherhand you can go to the UGC or Odean in Ipswich.
the flea pit....still has the stain on the screen that has been there ever since i movered there in 1985
Palace cinema, Two screens showing fairly upto date movies although most people slag it off for not having films the same time as Ipswich but this is the way the film distributors work and if those same people whinging would support it once in a while it could soon attract the films sooner.
flea pit....is the ice cream stain on screan 1 still there?
I would never pay a fiver to go felixstowe cinema they must be joking!!
The Felixstowe cinema is truely awfull I,ve been going to Ipswich for the last five years to see films.Their is usually an old women behind the till who sells tacky outdated sweets and two small screens which show tacky outdated films.
Even the bingo next door does better business, although their are plans to replace the decaying cinema with hotel which was also include a one screen cinema and a casino.
Palace Cinema - 2 screens, very dingy. Films only come on here about a month after they've been released because we get the reels after the major cinemas are done with them, and only then do we get mainstream films. No art-house stuff here - it would only confuse them - especially the subtitles, since half the populace is illiterate.
Apparently a local businessman plans to turn the Palace building into a hotel, close one cinema screen and set up a casino. Unlikely to actually happen - that would be far too interesting for Felixstowe.
The old Palace cinema
Support your local cinema!!! at least it's convenient, and it's still better then waiting for the video. If your'e not impatient to see a particular film then it's definately worth a visit.
the palace (the flea pitt)
Felixstowe cinema looks like a 70's Porn Theatre; pretty apt, as the latest movie to show was probably made in the 70's. The floor makes a squelching sound as you walk, there are more staff than customers, it doesn't even have stereo sound (never mind Digital Surround or whatever), and it costs, like, 5 to see anything. Go to Ipswich instead, UGC rocks the free world.
Good memories of the cinema and the staff. I one lost a bracelet and in the middle of the movie, I was asked if I had lost it. In fact I did, and it was found and returned to me in that very moment.
I Went to see Jurassic Park in Felixstowe cinema....HEHEHE....Apparently it was supposed to be the best surround sound experiance ever.
I did n't think it was much better than my old tranny radio. THEN I LOOKED. There was one 10 inch speaker wobbling away in front of the screen.
By god my car has a better system than that.....It was F funny..=:0)
oh why oh why have we still got this dump they call the Palace ?
You may have been to the fleepit but I haven't, it's always Ipswich we go to sleep through the latest film.
There is only one town-centre cinema and they specialise in the straight to video kind of movies, and the hopelessly out of datemovies, current 'blockbuster' being Top Gun.
one with 2 screens that gets movies when there on video.
Who need's films when town life is so fun?
the palace-a bit crappy

Cinema is very small.. there's a 'laser Quest' down at the fair but its rubbish cos you're always playing virtually by yourself + ridiculous numbers of arcades
