• Martin Johnson went to school here.

• Englebert Humperdinck, Showaddywaddy (I know... I know...) Richard Attenborough, Gary Lineker (his family run a greengrocers stall in the market), Thomas Cook (he's got a shop or two in the town too...)
• There is a famous ex-resident of Leicester that you all appear to have forgotten: Joe Orton. One of the most famous playwrights of the 1960's. Born and bred on the Saffron Lane estate, and immortalized in the biopic 'Prick up your Ears', where Gary Oldman played him.
• Narinder from Big Brother 2, and Lee from Big Brother 3. Simon DeMonfort. And one certain footballer named GARY LINEKER.
• andy townsend lives in blaby he used to be a wicked skate till he done a backside flip of the bus shelter on blaby park and broke his leg and arm and dislocated his elbow!!

• Thomas Cook the travel business, the man himself lived in London Road, Leicester and started his business with charabanc (horse drawn carriages) to Belvoir Castle. The Attenborough bros, Dickie and David were born in Leicestershire, Gary Lineker's mum and dad run a veg stall in the City market place.
• I'm surprised no-one's mentioned C.P. Snow. Author of the "Strangers and Brothers" series, the first of which (Time of Hope) starts off in Leicester just before WWI.He caused a bit of upset in the literary world with his "Two Cultures" Lecture, published in the New Statesman in the '50s, and angrily rebutted by F.R Leavis in the Spectator (probably because it was too near the mark!) These days, he is regarded (unfairly, in my opinion) as very unfashionable and an inferior author to his wife, Pamela Hansford Johnson.
• Dion Dublin is from Leicester and his brother who is the spitting image of him drinks in the Weston!
• I myself am a great pose to the city of leicester as i hold the record of 19 wanks in 1 day
• Gary Lineker, Robbie Savage... erm, that's about it. Oh yeah, and Mark Morrison, who famously came back to Leicester rather than live in Miami. He must be mad.
• Apart from me of course, the elephant man was born here (the guiser with the bone deformaty - watch the film!) and of course both the Attenboroughs - David and Richard.

• Rosemary Conley fitness guru. Her car's always parked at the station when she's appearing on richard and judy.

• Gary Lineker must be Leicester's most famous local lad. His dad still owns a stall in the market and Gary himself used to help out there as a young 'un.

• Thomas Cook. He started off providing teetotal holidays from Leicester to Loughborough, 10 miles up the railway line. His statue stands outside Leicester Midland railway station.
• The home of Daniel Lambert (big guy).
• The city has also spawned both good and bad music - Small indie bands like Cornershop and Diesel Park West, and sadder people such as Showwaddywaddy and Engleburt Humperdink are all from Leicester.
• Leicester's most famous son is Gary Lineker, who has now returned to the city from Japan.

Buskers, Street Entertainers

• That cute but very scary man who is about 50 and gos round with a plastic cup, a stick and a badge saying 'Birthday Girl', who upon sighting his prey beats his badge with his stick whilst pointing at his cup, Hilarious and worth giving him a few pence after closing time. Before colosing time however is liable to result in you running screaming for cover.
• Those guys playing mexican music in ponchos and pan-pipes seems to be everywhere - all the places I've ever been to in England, such as Norwich, Nottingham, Derby, London, Bradford - they must be following me!
• those dumbass anti-capitalist, socialist twats that are always in town!! cant they find anything better to do after their coal mines/ sock factories cloes down!! oh, and those muslims that are always in town are annoying to.

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
