The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

  • Mildenhall U17s - League Champions 99/00!
  • Knowhere realy put Mildenhall "somewhere" in Norfork. Last time I looked it was in Suffolk!
  • If you make it to Bury St. Edmunds, you gotta check out the Nutshell. It's the smallest pub in Great Britain according to the Guiness Book of World Records. Follow the signs to the town centre and it's just off the market square. There's a 400 year old cat in there too, no lie. Worth the visit.
  • On Base there is a nice R.C. race car track. It's Cool if your in to that .....Which I'm not
  • I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall from 1978 - 1981 and lived in a large subdivided estate called Woodland Way near the big 5-way roundabout. My favorite place was the Queens Arms across from the old vicarage near the small roundabout. The pub had no fruit machine, no jukebox, just good people, darts, dice, cribbage and beer (Greene King, hard to find in U.S.). The proprietors were Ray and Frieda and they were wonderful! Every night at closing, Frieda would go about closing the curtains and calling "Time please!" while Ray went about the bar refilling everyone's pints (this earned him a stern "Raymond!"). I can't think of anything about Mildenhall that I didn't like.
  • I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall 1975-1977. Lived up the street from the Queens Arms pub. I would like to know if the Beckett family still owns it, please?
  • As an American, I have had the wonderful opportunity to have been able to live and visit the Mildenhall area for nearly 8 years (1985-1992). The people were always friendly and genuine. Friendships are easily made there, I miss it greatly!
While living in the UK, I owned a home on Field Road in Brandon. If I ever needed bits for the house, or items for decorating... I could always find Good Value from the merchants in Mildenhall: especially from A.G Coe & Son. I should like to extend the invitation to any who would like to establish an email friendship. • I was stationed at RAF Milldenhall. Best thing are the people and the village way of life. Loved to bet the horses in the OTB. Great Pubs.
  • I used to live in Mildenahall from 1989-1990. I loved the little town. The best thing associated to Mildenhall is the Air base there. It has a wonderful Air Show every year known as Air Fete. When I was there the SR-71's were still there.
I really enjoyed going to the markets there during the week and on Friday. The people were great and were pretty nice to the Americans that lived in the town.
The worst thing, I cannot think of anything that I did not like about the town. It is close to Cambridge and Bury St. Edmunds.
We used to go to Bury St. Edmunds to the McDonalds and have lunch.
I really enjoyed my stay there. (Erin)
  • Believe it or not, Mildenhall does actually have it's own treasure. I don't know much about it, but I'm sure somebody could fill you in!! All I do know, is it was found earlier this century by accident on a cold winters day. It was pewter plates (and stuff), found in a field (near where I live) in Thistley Green, West Row (which is about 2 1/2 miles from Mildenhall). Sorry I can't tell you any more!!
  • Mildenhall Town Football Club competes in the Jewson Eastern Counties League Division One. It also has teams in the Cambridge County Leagues and four youth teams ranging from under 11s to under 18s. The Club is presently attempting to raise money to build new dressing rooms for its teams to add to its Clubhouse which was opened in 1992. Floodlights were installed in 1994.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Mildenhall. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Mildenhall.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
