China City in Dawley is the best curry house in town!
best place 4 food is maccys in town cuz we get free food from there :D
the new beatties resturant is good but pricey
A1 rocks
Fast Food capital of the country! That is obvious by some of people you see getting on and off the buses.
Mc Donalds in every corner of town! all are crap! and i work at one!! One decent chinese thats in wellington the severn stars! dats ur lot!
Mister Daves Balti House in Dawley - Highly Recommended. Bring your own beer, as they're not licensed, but the curry is well nice and so cheap...
The Sanwich Factory and Greggs in Wellington... possibly the best thing that has happened to wellington (food wise)!
The guy outside the town centre doors on a saturday, and in the market on a
sunday has the best hot dogs and burgers around, quite a funny guy. or theres
another one in the park.
pukka mate!
Telford now has FOUR, count em, Four Mcdonald's take your pick
Telford Town Centre
Telford Forge Retail Park
Wellington Retail Park
Donnington (by the clock tower)
Enjoy!!!
bengal spice indian take away in dawley kiks ass fine indian cuisine
McDonald's in Ketley - near Tescos. Theres a lad there called Dave Jones - his name badge says "WAVY" or "GINOLA" - don't go near him, he's a slapper and will shag anything!! Good food though & look out for the comedy managers, Joe the boss with the big nose, and Amanda the little deputy with the squeaky voice and no neck!!!
2 Chip shops on station hill, near SVR. Others around town.
The best Thai resteraunt outside of Thailand - The Hong Khrua Thai in Hadley.
McDonalds for meat eaters. Veggies: Bakers Oven for cracking pasties or Deep Pan Pizza at UCI Cinema Ñ £2.50 for as much as you can eat. I did twelve slices.
Pubs
Beacon - very lively on weekends, not 2 expensive
Ironbridge, v nice all pubs had refurb recently
The Lord Hill in Dawley, Live music on thursdays and saturdays, Discos on fridays.
The Lord Hill, High Street, Dawley, Telford. Under New Managemnent. Now has selection of real ales, good food at lunch times an quality entertainment Thursday to Saturday evenings. Come give it a try. www.lord-hill.co.uk
As a Madeley lad I'll say the Cuckoo Oak is the best pub in Telford.
Under New managment the White Lion at Wellington has to have the most Friendly Atmosphere a Public House could wish for. I would Highly reccomend it to people from all walks of life.
haygate
The Malthouse in Ironbridge is a very nice pub
Queens arms, Dawley Bank --- party night on a friday, bouncers are not bouncers
they are meeters and greeters,,, respect to both of them they have there heads
screwed on,,,, other clubs take note manners dont cost nout and who is paying your wages,,, also you can get in with £100 diesel trainers on as they recognize quality an dont give you that crap about them being trainers when they cost more than kickers do duuuuuuurrrrrrrrrr.
No sniffers or pill poppers welcome!
Just keep the noise down on leaving as i live just down the road!!!!!
dunn cow in dawley is a good family pub, the cally is good for a fight
The White Hart in Ironbridge used to be an ace pub. Broseley pubs are not that bad, and not everyone is interbred (the interbreds dont come out after dark!)
Someone wrote that the Kings Head, Wellington is a good pub. Bollocks! It closed years ago and is now some seedy "wine bar" for Arleston stoats and wankers
the four best pubs for proper beer in telford are, in no particular order, The Wrekin Tap, Wellington, The Coalbrookdale Inn, Coalbrookdale, The Crown, Oakengates and The Golden Ball , Ironbridge. The Coalbrookdale is great for lunch and the Golden Ball does great food any time of day. Friendly, funny landlord and a nice crowd in there to. Also worth checking out is the Swan in Ironbridge (recently refurbished) and the Malthouse. Both seem to attract a younger, smarter crowd and the Malthouse often has live music.
The Barley Mow, Wellington, has young patrons.........
Beacon - Bit of a shithole, full of youthfull 18 year olds, can be expensive, they need to sort the lease out, new landlord every week!!
White Hart - Quality put, reputation for attracting 18 yr olds that look about 16, myself not included in that catagory ;)
The Station, over the bridge from ironbridge - DIRE - MISS IT avoid it at all costs, a real hell hole with nothing good to it's name..
Tontine - nice pub, lots of old people though, not a place you goto before going birmingham clubbing
Robin hood - attracts a youthfull clientele
red lion - AKA Black Lion - in madeley, never drank in there, i like living!
Golden Ball - Ironbridge. A top notch drinking hole with high quality food, remember to take your ID.
Rasputin's - Wellington, a nice pub, again attracting young looking patrons, of course they are ALL over 18...
Best of the town centre pubs:
Severn gorge, Malinsgate. Absolutely top bollocks. Nice atmosphere, very clean and friendly.
The Euston, Euston Way. Like the gorge, only a little further downmarket. Full of TJ's on a friday night, but otherwise okay.
The haygate in wellington is brilliant loud music and cheap!!! theres a pub called porters which is always packed and people que to get in there when theres now where to stand sit fart or breath! and drinks are also 3quid near enuff! Rasputins is as bad! Sugar rays used to be good! three crowns is a lezbo pub! and lets not discuss the Cally!
Best pub in shropshire, THE ROBIN HOOD, WATERLOO RD, IRONBRIDGE
I would, personally, if i wanted a night out, go to wolverhampton, but...
I wouldn't recommend the millhouse or (Severn Gorge) milestone, near the town, as they are overpriced and full of tossers. (although the Severn Gorge does lovely food in the restaurant, but the pub food is gross).
The Church Wicketts is a Wetherspoons, and is nice and cheap, but I probably wouldn't recommend the food, not as good as it used to be.
ok so what town has the most pubs..... WELLINGTON.... with The Red Lion (a fave), Rasputins and Porters plus SugaRays towards New College (a fave at lunch for the 'older' college students)
Kings Head used to be good in a very studenty, ankle deep in piss, kind of a way, but has been replaced by Sugar Rays or something which apparently has topless bar maids. The Charlton and the Red Lion are now the two best pubs in Wellington (although I still wouldn't go as far as to say they are good), but avoid getting too pissed as you may find yourself unable to resist a trip to Rumours!!
The Boat is good but avoid when it's flooded. The Coalbrookdale is good if you like your beer, as it has several guest beers which change regularly, it also does takeaway beer.
Avoid The Crown on Hodgebower (Ironbridge i think, i was very drunk), an extremely 'fresh faced' clientele to the extent that at the age of 20 I felt ancient, also a little intolerant(facist bastards!).
If your in wellington then go to The Red Lion, The Charlton or Rasputins as there's always loads of people to meet and get pissed with!
wicketts in dawley/malinslee is kool, very cheap food is ok too, but atmosphere a bit dodgy loads of stares....
Most pubs are OK apart from this list
The Wrekin - Wellington (not very receptive unless you are a local)
The Barley Mow - Wellington
The Elizabethan - Woodside (shit-hole)
just use your eyes and sence of smell, if it looks like a hit hole and smells like one then it is a SHIT-HOLE
all flippin sad go to wolverhampton.
Charlton Arms - dull & boring but the least worst. Watch out for Telford Kevins in Nova SRs and XR3Is on a Fri/Sat night. Tossers. Opposite Kwik Fit, Church Street, Wellington.
The Randlay Farmhouse, very nice. Not packed
The only decent place, where you won't come across Telford Kevins, trying to start a fight with you, in their Kappa Tracksuits and earings you could swing a canary on, is the students union (only available to the students though). With great decor and full of drunken students, what more could you ask for.
Avoid Broseley all the people are interbred!
Best two pubs in telford/wellington are The Elephant & Castle and The red Lion in Wellington
the elizibethan is better than before, i live just down the road and there is no problems three anymore
The Crown Inn in Oakengates is celebrating its first anniversary on 28th July 96. There are usually up to nine real ales on at any one time plus a real draught cider. A lot of the real ales are from new or interesting breweries. The pub is a true free house: national beers are usually rarer than hens teeth. The pub is gaining a special merit award from the local "CAMRA" branch on the 18th of August. The pub will be holding a beer festival in late September featuring up to 40 new and rare beer from all over the country.
A discrete place for a snog Mind you, it isn't the bridge that is the real draw of the place, it HAS to be the staff. To begin "Potate" - so called because he looks like a potato. Secondly, "Porkpie", short, stumpy and full off shite. Thirdly, and I don't know how I could have left him to last, "Greasy Norm" who... if you are very luck will get off his chair (tricky after 20 pints) come over, spit on his hand, shake yours and then ban you for no reason. Your average local pub really... and the cider tastes awful... but then doesn't it always?
If you really want to know the truth about the pubs in Telford, I can suggest nothing better than visiting THE TONTINE in Ironbridge. It is so close to the famous bridge which, if the need arises, can be used for various purposes:
Good pubs: The Kings Head and The White Lion, both in Wellington and stay away from The Elizabethan on Woodside.
Best Guiness in Telford is at The Alscott Inn, near the sugar beet factory heading out of Wellington towards Shrewsbury.
Also try The Boat (south side of River Severn, but check erratic opening hours).
The Wrekin Tap. Nr. Telford United ground / Reade's garage, Wellington. Used to be known as The Cock Hotel. Landlord is former Lord Hill landlord, Gerald Gibson. Also knows how to keep a very good pint, having built up a fine reputation at the former, has now come out of retirement to show the young un's how it's done. Good beer - watch out The Coalbrookdale, shows great promise.
The Lord Hill. Main Road, Ketley Bank. Nice quiet pub (now), mostly locals, never any hassle. Beer garden at the back and some good ales to boot, but no meals at the moment. Beer well kept, new landlord's building up a good reputation.
The Coalbrookdale: Won the 1995 CAMRA national real ale pub of the year award. Excellent food and a very sociable landlord. Find it opposite The Coalbrookdale Works in Coalbrookdale at the bottom of Cherry Tree Hill. Incredible choice of beers, (usually seven per night) and an interesting high water mark from one of the floods, just inside the doorway on the left. Those of a sensitive nature are advised not to look at the, err, 'art' on the inside of the toilet entrances :-) Busy on Friday and Saturday nights, esp. in warm weather. Don't miss it.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Decent inside places to hang around, except pubs or the sterile Town centre (chain cafes) mall are almost non existent!
bb`s is ace
SK8Mental has now built an great Burger Bar with tasty burgers/hot dogs/chicken burgers !
www.sk8mental.co.uk
Waterfront cafe in Southwater Square is nice, numerous cafe's inside the shopping centre, but without exception, they are crap.
most have shut down due to food poisoning!
Carols Coffee shop in Meeting Point House gives away free bread to feed the ducks on the lake!!!!
New cafe openeded in Wellington, looks alright.
The bakers oven in the Telford centre has been given a new look and now sell absolutely gorgeous baguettes on lovely orange plates.
Also new to the Telford centre is an American style Coffee and Muffin Shop.
