Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
saturday night get ur self down to a little place called the raven opp the subway butty shop the best in bouncy scouse house. eat ur word when u say pier or maximes or cricketers the raven is the place 2 be cheap ale, top m,c's ,newest tunes. contact coomsey2006@hotmail 4 info
jumping jaks- look of for leaflets on the street often allowing free entry. it is a fun night out, mixture of music 80's/90's/dance. often have giveaways and now have an indie night on wednesdays.
maloneys and madisons have 2 for 1 drinks early on in night so good place to start drinking
Still loving Pier hopefully will grow out of it soon the music is banging especially when djs from pleasurerooms are playing.Friday night is youth night, went once wont be going again- the girls dress like its still 93 while the lads all trackie clad - tops off spend the majority of the night pestering everyone and anyone to get off with em, empties out bout 12 when the kids have spend up there pocket money. Music not great either i made a run for the door when i heard a mix of a black eyed peas tune come on. Saturday whole different story tho not gonna lie to you still alot of young uns and the girls still dress bad- glow in the dark bikini and fluffy boots galore. The music on a saturday makes up for all the bad points tho - completely mint not a bad tune played keeps you raving from start to finish. Maximes is sparse no fucker goes in and those that do are closer to school age than 18. the MCs could of made it but ruin it are shit 12 yr old midgets that chat MC bout what their ma made them for tea - shame cos the tunes getting go later on. Best bet stick to pier. Not tried 51 state but heard good things think will have give it ago next time dwn in wigan hopefully will have some lads over the age off 21 but not getting my hopes up. The bars are all crap full of men that look like they've never seen birds before avoid at all costs. the pubs in the day are worth giving ago tho usually packed and can gat some nice scran too.
well what can i say! wigan pier is chav city every1 is under age n go there coz no1 else will let um in! go in flares if ur over 50! jaks n walkabout best place go! liquid is 2 dear n once ur in ur in coz u aint got no muney left! start off in the OC n get ur cheapo wine n WKD n dance wiv the gud songs that aint chavish! also town is ok 2 start off in aswell 4 a classy drink! bentleys id ok but 2 small n packed, lux is ok if ur pissed n u dont now wot u doin n were u r! the hub is gr8 coz all R & B and no chav music. by the way we're not all slappers but we do luv pies!
dont go to baa, maximes, liquid, maloneys, the hub, jumpin jaks. they are all rubbish n full of dirty pie eating idiots
maximes sat nite
Maximes!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rockers rule 2nd, 3rd and 4th Friday nite of every month if your young (well over 18 of course) Ans 1st friday of everymonth is COCKROCK for all you older rocker *raaaaaaaawwwwwrrrrr*
Club Nivarna-Thusday under 18's rock

wigan pier has got to be the best place in the world its an expspince of a life time go every friday and saurday its top as fuck never no figth everyone is just loving the top class tunes being pumped out by the top class DJS!!1
Kudos has shut down, and princes is now the nivarner club which is mostly rock and indi. king street is actually a decent night out now. What with Liquid, baa bar, flares,Jumping Jacks, Walkabout, Surfers Paradice,The Orange House, Ibiza Bar, Malonies, Amber Bar,Bentlys,The Litten Tree, Dali Bar and Wigans newest club The Hub, the only R N B club in town. With most ov them open all week till late. Wigans also now got its own femail strip club Stilletoes which used to be Shapperos next to the bus station. The Pier and Maxims are still going strong to.
Northern Lights and Ready Steady Go! nights @ The Waiting Room - soon to be @ Nirvana. The best night in town (honest!!). Indie, psyche, garage, ska, 60's, 70's, Mod, Motown, Northern Soul - You'll find whatever your looking for here!!!
EH??? Kudos has not been open in wigan for three years!!! Niether has spring bok that closed in 2 years ago and only re opened in March 05 as "The hub"!!!
Embargo closed in 2003 and re opened as "The Chute" taht was shit and closed down too! Princes closed 2 year ago and Re opened as 51'st State We have Litten tree, Orange house, jumping jaks, maloneys, bentley's, deli bar, Flares, liquid's - shit!!!, Chicago Rock, Alter Ego, Ibiza bar, Walkabout and Scrubbers Paradise erm i mean Surfers paridise, Number 15, Pemps - eee! 51'st state, baa baa, Piers still goin strong as well as Maximes and cricketers.
Last orders orders, The vic closed and is now brunells, little 15, Berkley square, Harry's bar loads more
SO IF YOUR GONNA DISS WIGAN AT LEAST TRY VISITIN AND GETTING AN UP DATE
Best place's in the whole world on a friday night are the market tavern, the john bull( follow the bikes and related leather clad types between johnsons the cleaners and max spielmans) and Maximes ( a mecca for rockers)
What about Puffers - remember the piss flowing out of the lad's bog like a waterfall down the step when it was full and Barbara sitting at the entrance deciding whether or not you could go in tonight. Happy memories
Maximes back to the old school is wicked . once in a bluey!
WIGAN PIER what can i say is the DADDY of all clubs in wigan .....
edisons leigh and bar berellas on a sunday are mint!
Maximes, Cafe Nirvana for Rock Music. And King Street for all that other rubish.
surfers! top night out apart from a bit hot and sticky! all of us stand in the same corner everytime we go! also waverleys! its great music! and jumping jacks is great for a laugh n a dance!
loads of clubs but have u seen what a weekend out in this inbread town has spawned!! i think they should all be closed down
FEVER aka RIKs, nowhere better for Footy Lads
dancing in wigan is like sawing your balls off with a rusty blade
Clubs in Wigan are enough to make you wish you were dead
They play music similar to that you find at a labour club wedding AND are full of total scrubbers!!!
The only thing a night out in Wigan is good for...is making you feel far superior to everyone else that lives here.
Lux is the hip and happening place to be. If you can walk on your hind legs you don't want to be going to King Street and you're far to old to go to Maximes on a Friday night. And as for Maximes Cock Rock Night, don't bother it's like a Spinal Tap dressing room, but without the M&Ms.
If you can read this, or read at all, you're far too intelligent to go down King Street. Lux on a Friday night is probably your best bet for proper music (from the Smiths to Oasis to Bowie to Dylan to, erm Sugababes). Don't bother with Maximes - you're far to old to go on a Friday night, far to young to go on Cock Rock Night (tm) and far too fond of your teeth to go on a Saurday night. Alternatively, if you can't be arsed walking up to Lux stop in the Tudor, stick a quid in the Jukebox and voila! instant club!
The wigan pier night spot does underage drinking .
wigan pier (fri + sat night) plays the most pumpin off yer ed tunes to the best crowd. 51st state, maximes and on a smaller scale the criketer. pier n' maximes pull in crowds from all over the nort west
Fifteens, King St West. Crap dj who can't mix for toffee, steamingly hot even in winter 'cos owner is too tight to install air-con despite repeated requests (do the HSE know ?), overpriced drinks except on Sundays, not enough bar staff, ever, too many people get let in, the usual inbred f***wits who like only to kick off...oh yeah I knew there was something else....WALL TO WALL SL*TS ! I knew there was a reason why I usually end up there. Like The Turnkey in the '80s & early 90s, it's the knocking shop of the moment, except you don't pay for the sex. Unless you marry 'em...
maximes on friday used to be a rock night, now its FULL of exceptionally young patrons and bad music. avril lavigne(?) is not rock....
if your in wigan you MUST visit the pier on a friday night it is the best place ever. all the people are dead friendly N u can practically do what u want!!! everyones off their heads N thats what makes the atmosphere so friendly cos everyone's loved up
On a saturday go 2 51st state (formerly known as princes) its well good n doesn't smell anymore like it used to when it was princes!!! maximes is ok but not as friendly as the pier and 51st state!!!!!
King Street
The Clubs are basically shit. If i where you id go to liverpool or Manchester but if you really must sample the shitholes of Wigan theres the Springbok the walkabout wigan pier Kudos Princes Maximes etc A word of advice - NEVER GO TO ANY CLUB IN LEIGH!! THEYA ARE EVEN WORSE THAN THE ONES IN WIGAN AND ARE FULL OF PRICKS!
Unless you can cite 'drinking cider in the bus stop' and 'shagging 12 year olds' as your top two hobbies, you'll find Wigan something of a bore. A standard night out for the locals would run something like this. At 9pm begin to drink, choose outfit (for the girls - ill fitting white skirt supported by equally unflattering top. For the boys - black trousers and striped shirt bearing a logo such as 'Calvin Klean' or 'Dolce & Abanana'). 10pm - Set out for town (half pissed) and head straight to the European Capital of Stupidity, known to most as Bentleys bar. 11pm - you have relocated to 'Liquid' or as I like to call it, hell on a budget. They couldn't afford demons with hot spikes so employed ugly women to pester you to "get off wi me". Once embedded (Rageh) within the throng of idiots, you pour booze down your gullet as if tomorrow brings prohibition. Once the drinking is done you fall out of the club to the outside world, have a pizza, be sick, have a fight and stumble into one of our many damaged and often illegal cabs. This would be considered a fruitful evening in Wigan. I say to you now, if you've never been, then stay away. If you have and enjoyed it, please don't breed.
well a nite on the pull up wigan its really good theres loadsa slappers including me (only jokin). also its full of dead nice looking lads. theres a club up wigan called 51st state this used to be called princes its just full of pill heads even the girls there think its cool but ney they just look mingin pullin wierd faces cause there pilled ip.
The tudor a good 'rockers'/'moshers'/'swedies' pub bands sometimes on a wednesday.
Surfers Paradise is probably the busiest in Wigan but the best staff have all left and so have a few of the patrons but it still gets a queue every weekend
Cafe Nirvana for all the rock lovers! It boasts a very good public bar area and quite a cool venue upstairs, although the sound setup doesn't favour as of the height of the ceiling! But still a very good place at the bottom of King Street
liquid of course!
PIER!!!! saturdays only. 51ST STATE saturdays n'all
Maximes- good if you wanna get realllly trollied. Kudos- in earlier years was fantastic, now seems to be dying a slow death sadly. Liquid- Tiny and Expensive but by far the poshest, if wigan can b posh. Princes- Not since I was a young patron. Springbok and Surfers more pub than club.
MIRAGE NIGHCLUB IS THE GREATEST CLUB IN THE WORLD!!! WIV SIR GARY J SPINNIN THE DISKS U CANT GO WRONG! INSIDE INSIDE OUT INSIDE INSIDE OUT!
Maximes the last saturday of every month for all them old skool ravers, mint music all the tunes and all them mint lads.
LIQUID IS THE BEST PLACE 2B COZ ITS ALWAYZ PACKED WITH LOADZ O FIT LADS!
Maximes has a fabulous hoston the doors called Gay Lez, He's a real silver fox.
It is also enjoyable to get leathered on Friday neet, Gay Lez, Gay Lez
Would someone mind telling me the adress of wigan pier club. heard its top. nice one
MAXIMES - this is the most entertaining club in Wigan. Solely for the ZONE, wigans answer to ministry of sound - only all the cd's r bootlegged, the music is cheesy italian house, and the punters are usually of the friendly scally variety, oh yeah, n u get a gruff sounding MC geezer shouting over the music - ruining it. BUZZIN. U can get in wearing rockports, trackies and a stripey jumper, or even shorts and a t-shirt, or maybe even a clown uniform. It is actually a proper good nite, n u'll probably get a shag.
KING STREET!!! or maximes where 8yr olds go an drink ribeana an sunny delight until 8 at nite
go to the pier for a top nite out. or try jumpin jaks, princes, embargo or surfers. if u end up at jumpin jaks tell paul that jane sez hiya.
new clubs on king street
Walkabout is cool good music. the only problem is the price of drinks but its not too bad. If u get a bit bored u can just go in surfers paradice which plays the best dance music before 12 it rocks !!!!!!!!! ps princes shit !!!!!
Go to Jumping Jaks its fantastic! well i think its good anyway! If u like a dance and a giggle and ur up for a laugh its the place to go! apparantly all the staff hav to get up and perform at some point- the take that guys: 'WE LOVE YOU!!!'
princes quite gud now fridays 241 saturdays 10 quid admission free bar drink wotever u want sundays 1 pound a bollte (selected drinks)m even tho the part bout yer feet stickin 2 the floor is true pier is rough dont go trust me!!!
Stay away from wigan pier night spot. The club is crap and full of people high on drugs (meaning pill pusher). The bouncer are tits aswell.
Club 15(Club SSW) - Club Springfield,Scholes and Whelley - Not bad chance of a shag.
Princes - Smells of sick
Turnkey - Shut down
The Pier/Maximes - Full of little incumbants running round in Shellsuits with white socks and there Rockports on display, used to both be decent clubs ,now very, very shit.
The Shed - Strippers on before Latics play. Not very attractive strippers mind you, but still a mott is a mott.
Frenchies - A Pie Shop with a club on the side of it. Still you've got to keep the lesser spotted Wiggin Worriers fan happy somehow.
Dance Music My Arse.
The Pier - Wednesday 9.30 - 2am. £1.38 a pint, £1 a bottle (lager only like) Alternative Night. Rock/Indie/Metal/Punk/Ska & 80's set at the end
Kudos is about the most decent club in wigan and even that is tiny. there are no real decent places..my advice go to liverpool!!
BRING ON CLUB LIQUID...... THE CLUB CAUSIN ALL THE SHIT ON KING STREET AT THE MO!!!!! KUDOS GOT WIGAN BANGIN AGAIN, BUT THANK FUCK ALL THESE NEW CLUBS ARE BEING BUILD, SOON TO MAKE WIGAN A TOP TOP TOP NITE OUT. WALKABOUT FOR ANY ENGLAND, LIVERPOOL VS UNITED GAME, ITS LIKE BEIN AT THE STADIUM ITS ROCKIN, PLUS IF YOU DO THE DAY SESH CAN TAKE THE 2 4 1 OFFERS AND GET SMASHED!!!!

STAGGER OUT FOR A PIZZA,KEBAB ETC BEST PLACES ARE DWIGHT YORKS, KEBAB KING OR THE ONE ROUND THE CORNER I CAN'T REMEMBER. IF YA WANT INDIAN THE SANTI BAG....
DONT BOTHER TRYIN TO GET A TAXI BETWEEN 2AM AND 3.30AM ITS NOT HAPPENIN UNLESS YOU BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF SOMEBODY GETTIN IN ONE, OR THROW YOURSELF ONTO THE ROOF AS ONE DRIVES PAST SLOWLY LOOKIN FOR A GROUP OF GIRLS WITH SHORT SKIRTS ON TO PICK UP...
THATS YOUR LOT, SEEYA THERE!!!!!
KUDOS IS OVERATED AND OVERPRICED, PRINCESS SMELLS OF SICK AND THE FLOOR IS STICKY, ONLY DECENT THING ABOUT IT IS THE PRICE OF DRINKS.THE PLACES TO GO ARE SPRINGBOK, ITS 2 4 1 ON SELECTED DRINKS AND FREE BEFORE 11PM,MAINLY DANCE MUSIC, WALKABOUT ALSO HAS A FEW DEALS ON SELECTED DRINKS A GOOD RANGE OF DANCE AND SOME FROM THE 80'S, BOTH OPEN TILL THE VERY EARLY HOURS. IF YOU LIKE THE 80'S, LATE 70'S AND SOME DIRTY OLD SLAPPERS THEN CHICAGOS IS THE PLACE.
wednesday night at the pier is always fun and plays some good tunes rock and a bit of indie and if your lucky some old tunes!
wigan pier rules the world of house music! princes stinks and your feet stick to the carpet!
Kudos, Wednesday nights, £10 all you can drink. Need I say more. Get there before the school holidays end as I have a sneaky suspicion it won't be as busy then.
Princes is the worst club in Wigan! your feet stick to the floor and pervy old men hang around the girls toilets!
Princes is a bit of a no no, unless you want to be dancing with about 50 other people in a club made for several hundred (and its got lots of stairs). Kudos is probably the best night out if you like chart, dance and R'n'B - just be prepared to be leched at by a few people half your age!!!
The ' Bull - now full of aged bikers but Ok.
PRINCES! Last years GQ beauty contest runner-up clubbed here. Nobody said that Ken Dodd won! Empty, full of steps and women with jaws squarer (and hairier) than Desperate Dan. If you have to 'tap', check the Adams Apple! KUDOS! New, looks and sounds good. Expensive but aren't all clubs! Leagues ahead of Princes. JJ's No Comment, the least said, the better.
The Pier on Wednesday nights (used to be known as 'Freak Night) used to good fun, and the music wasn't bad either, although all the Goth used to make my blood run cold!
KUDOS is the haven of all roughness. bloody awful - putting it a the bottom of norley hall was a BIG mistake
I always wanted to go to the Casino and King of Clubs in the town centre, but was banned. Being a goody two shoes I only went to the K of C once and never to the Casino. I cried when it shut before I could be naughty and get in there. My main initiation into adulthood (well if I could get a job at fifteen I saw no reason why I couldn't have a social life too) was in Pemberton West Ward Labour Club. The Tuesday and Saturday dance nights were the best in town. At Christmas, if you weren't there before 6pm you didn't get in at all!! The local clubs - West Ward, Goose Green, Newtown Workers were the cribs of break-dancers etc. Mega fantastic dancing and music modern kids have to steal it was so good.
Hmmm well the 'Pier' for dance music and other related tomfoolery (!)but defo Princes or Kudos for the 'proper'{sic} people... Live the life!
Only been to the Pier (Crap), Princes (if possible Crapper) and Maximes Rock Nite (extremely poor)
Although i have received streams of abuse from the merry patrons of Wigan's other fine nightspots.
Kudos Night club at Robin Park - It is open Wednesday night for over 18s from 9:30 till 2am - student night, Thursday for over 19s till 2 am and Friday and Saturday night until 3am. It is a great night out and they have a foam party and various events from time to time! There is also a Klub Bar next door where you can meet up with friends before going into Kudos. Also there is a shuttle bus which goes from certain places and then picks you up later, for example one goes from the Cross Keys in Ashton, you pay 6 pounds and this is your travel and entrance fee!
Queens IN Ashton-In-Makerfield, O.K every once in a while - open Friday and Saturday nights from 9:30 till 1am and then everyone moves around the corner to Frenz (used to be Old Mary's) until 2am.
Maximes - Rock night is good, but not as good as it once was. Much harder to get '****ed' on the first night than a few years back, I used to score 2 Fridays in 3!! What has happened to all the slappers!!
Maximes,Friday nights....Rockers only! And if you up for a KRAZZEE night out why not try KUDOS! BUt never try Princes!
Maximes--does alternate rock & old skool rave nights
Pemps! Kojak lollies, chocolate mice, jelly snakes, drinking cans through straws, no bouncers! What more could you ask for?
do you let squaddies in the pubs and clubs,as we are not allowed in
many over here in sunny germany,,,
cheers the wigan warrior,,,
the golden lion in ashton is THE place to go if you only look about twelve but don't bother with old mary's, really, it is really small and sweaty and the dancefloors so small!
PRINCES, EM-BAR-GO, FIFTEEN, SURFERS, THE TURNKEY??? KUDOS,
Pemps Princes Scotts nitespot Kudos JR's Nitespot Turnkey Cellars Surfer's Paradise Maximes JJ's The Pier Nitespot Mirage Nightclub Chicago Rock Cafe
The clubs are all pretty poo, especially the TurnKey, its just full of slappers
Maxims has a cool rock night on Fridays
Could only be Mirage at the Moathouse in Standish after a drunken nightout int eh pubs this is the only place to fall.
Maximes in Wigan used to be a rather hot venue 'when I were a Lad' -From what I hear, the night named 'Back to The Old Skool' used to really pull in the punters. (I spent one evening gurning the night away with a very nice bird from Bristol) Long live the Northeners insatiable appetite to Party.
There will be a new club on the robin park complex soon, and by all accounts it's gonna be somethin special..... Fundamental is what it's gonna be called.
Maximes is absolutely great. That's the place to go in Wigan
After reading about Wigan's favourite sons - Roy Kinnear, Shaun Edwards, Dave Whelan et al - I felt it only fair to draw attention to Wigan's most treasured female: "Step forward Barbara from 'Pemps'!!". This woman is a legend in her own chucking-out time. Every Friday and Saturday night you can find her stood menacingly on the door of Pemps, the best club in Wigan. "If you're not members, you're not coming in!" - mmm, scary! A trip to Wigan is incomplete without a visit to Barbara's Kingdom.
Princes is the club, over 21's only though.
The Pier and Maximes regularly play host to guest DJs and PAs
Live Music Venues
The Tavern
princeses
Tavern on a Saturday, home of Wigan Music Collective, always promoting local bands. Keep it up!
Club nivarna often has many bands playing as does WANC (wigan alternative night club)
The stag. Saturday night live bands, great atmosphere.
Club Nirvana - formerly 51st State it is in the old Princes Cinema. Live bands every Wednesday, Saturday as well as under 18's on Thursday, Club night on Fridays. The biggest and best live venue in Wigan.
Intermisson @ Fever - now moved to Nirvana. The best live music in wigan, on a Wednesday night with a variation of music (mostly indie/punk/rock) and fantastic talent. Some bands are or are soon to be signed! The place to be! Also, The Collective @ The Tavern exactly the same but in a pub on a Saturday Night.
have to check local listings. Best place to start would be the venue (aka Market Tavern).
wigan pier music downloads
The Lux club has had a couple of good bands on...
the cavern LIVERPOOL.WA1 Warrington
Thw Wigan Music Collective which is currently based at The Tavern on Mesnes Street in the town centre is the best live music venue in the town. If you want a great sound and wuality original music then head down there. Every Saturday - Check www.wiganmusic.com for up to date info on the live music scene in Wigan
The Tavern play loads of clique gay bands who verbally bum each other - go to Manchester for owt thats good.
maximes
kudos is now closed
the collective, the tudor house hotel, the cricketers (greenday played here in their early days)
The Wigan Music Collective plays host to four live bands every Saturday at The Tavern on Mesnes St in the town centre. All types of musical styles are catered for, for more info and up to date listings visit www.wiganmusic.com
Also on that site is details of how to get a gig or how to join the Collective to help out with promotion, bookings, DJ slots etc..
the local music venue is probably a party in worsley mains or norly hall at 3 in the morning when all the local inbreads try and sing !!
New venue, the lux club (under music 90), great bands from Wigan and further afield special guests, every wednesday. A breath of fresh air for a vibrant music scene
Er none unless you count the 'bag of shit' piss you sometimes get at the Tudor
the tudor, by the bus station, is the best place in wigan 4 music. they have the best juke box going with music 4 just about anyone. and if thats not ur cup of tea, they have live bands regularly and mistery 80's film night for if ur board on a monday, and if u get peckish the foods good and so is the beer!!!
The Den was cool, now closed though.
The tavern has a collective night on a wdnesday usually local punk bands, 'gun powder plot' are good.
Cafe Nirvana is a good music venue with some very cool bands on now. Saturday night always gets in the people and thursdays under 18's night brings in quite a lot of people
The Tavern on Mesnes St is now home to the Wigan Music Collective. Check out their site on www.wiganmusic.com for details of forthcoming gigs
cafe nirvana (on rodney street next to wigan international swimming pool)
most colleges an pubs have summat on a lunchtimes
the tavern
collective venue
Never fucking go to the tudor the bands are bad the ale is worse and Francis' tits are fucking disgusting! Russell how could you bang her all these years? Then again you're no looker are you kiddy fiddler?
Sadly, the collective is now closed... but the live music venue is now at the Tavern - commonly known as Steps.
The collective is the only place in town that provides live music that is not cabaret, if you like thrash and crash bang wallop this is the place for you!
Wigan - cultureless. No performing arts to speak of. Trencherfield Mill is possibly the largest venue here.
The Orwell? Er, dunno? I remember the Den, right enough, and I still remember my first gig at sixteen. It was the UK Subs. I also saw one of the early Verve gigs at the Mill at The Pier supporting the Tansads, and I thought they were dreadful!
Live bands every saturday at WIGAN MUSIC COLLECTIVE, a semi-professional venue above shapiro's (shudder!) and believe it or not, the bands are actually doing something new and interesting (apart from the odd swear at the crowd coz our music isn't good indie cover band) check out gunpowder plot and gekko for quality punk acts
Go to the annual Beer and Pie festival at either the Mill at the Pier or the Beer engine. Great Music/great beer.
Tudor and above Shapiros. Used to be bands on at the Grand Hotel but i don't think there is any more. I saw Kermitz Middle Finger perform at Shapiros and i saw them play upstairs. They rocked my tiny world.
Tudor House. Maximes(Rock) Nowhere else very regularly, but have seen some cool gigs over the years. Maybe real music (You remember! The kind with actual musicians!) will caome back soon!
The Tudor is O.K. but Hartleys was better they used to have really good punk/hardcore all dayers but the management decided to make their pub into a 70s/80s reject spot all because a rocker broke their tele at a Quantas Earthquake gig!
Beer Engine--a bit violent
The Wigan Musicians Collective, a group that put on gigs for local unsigned bands are moving their monthly gigs to Mabbs Cross Hotel because the Grand Hotel is being turned into student accomodation. E-mail wiganmc@hotmail.com for more info. The First gig there is on 22nd October.
Venues Hmm a severe lack of them but try Hartleys Emporium and The Grand Hotel
and the Orwell
Winstanley College's Goldfish bowl - all ex-Winstanley students know what I'm talking about!!!!!
Princess is the only half good club.
Indi nights once a month at Wigan Pier.
Still some dub shows at Mill at The Pier.
The infamous Den closed down a couple of years ago and, although the same prompters ccontinued with mixed success at other venues, there are virtually no gigs in Wigan nowadays.
Mill at The Pier, Bear Engine (towards Poolstock), The Cricketer (Poolstock), Cheers Bar.
Cinemas
sum twat flattened um all
UGC (also known as Cineworld) Rocks man!
UGC cinema FAB!
You would NOT travel miles to see a film at our cinemas!! Bit on the small side really.
UCI OK
There is a multiplex at Robin Park, its crap though, full of kids, overpriced everything and there is no other cinema in the area... As a kid I have fond memories of Unit 4
OK - cinemas. The Virgin Multiplex at Robin Park was awesome in the sense that it used to be a great cinema. However it did contribute greatly to the death of the Ritz and Unit Four, which is a shame as its always nice to see little independents around.
Anyway, the French company UGC took over Virgin Cinemas when Branson was happy that he had made enough money from it, and this is where the decline started. I work part time there now and all I can say is that it is an ABSOLUTE DUMP (this is in July 2004 BTW). UGC will not invest in it at all, and as a result the floors are ripped and damaged (in the screens and the foyer), there are loads of busted and torn seats that won't be repaired, the shop has gone, the coffee bar has gone, the Premier Screen has gone (along with the bar, now just an abandoned room) and gone are all the nice 'Virgin' touches, such as the huge spinning logos on the main bar ceiling and the path outside. Several of the TV screens are busted, air conditioning in screen 11 (old Premier Screen) is dodgy, toilets are no longer cleaned, hell, they won't even buy new signs for the toilets (yep, we get a lot of blokes wondering into the lasses crappers). All I can say is go to either the Vue (formerly Warner Brothers) multiplex or the UGC (both in Bolton), they are far better. UGC have f*cked this place up good and proper, so I really wouldn't bother goin' there.
Wow, now my huge rant is over I can tell ya a little about some other cinemas. The old Princes cinema by Wallgate station was converted into a nightclub a while back and is now called 51st State. The Ritz/ABC on Station Road (by Marks & Spencer) has been closed for years and is scheduled to be demolished in October 2004 to make way for a huge shopping mall. The Unit Four in Pem is now a discount carpet warehouse.
UGC - Its a place that plays films.
The local cinema is fooking crap go to liverpool or southport to watch a film for fuck sake anywere but hear even manchester and thats pushing the boat out
wigan is shit
UGC isnt bad, next door theres a Pizza Hut and on the other side Frankie and Bennys so you can eat before you go to see your film
the one near the asda in wigans alright i suppose. Not the best but its alright,
well we have a cinemas, bowling, baths and loadsa gyms (we need them after all the pies we eat)
The cinema at Robin Park is new and up to date with all the latest films
The ritz shut down in september 98, it was five mins from the college, and a mint way to spend ya dinner hour (or two). Booo hooo
ucg (used to be virgin cinema)
Virgin cinema's is a lot betta than when it first openned
UCG at Robin Park - Lots of spotty yoofs snogging, chattering away at the back of the film, group snog-fests and throwing pop corn at unsuspecting OAP's at the front. Like watching a film at a McDonalds...
usg robin park
Robin Park. Sit and watch the films to the sound of 13 and 14 year olds eating hot dogs, slurping flat cola, talking on their mobiles and snogging.
virgin/ugc cinema
There's like one and it's shite :P
ucg
Information please: "When was the Ritz cinema in Wigan closed down?". Month and year if anyone knows.
The only one I know is the Virgin Cinema on Red Robin Lane, although I used to frequent the Unit 4 in Pem quite regularly.
all the same, cinemas
ABC and Princes Cinemas were the absolute best. The UCG one on the New Robin Park complex now is about the best and has good quality sound esp. for old fogies like me with duff hearing.
there's only one and it smells of popcorn. My mother said "never trust a man or a building who smells like a buttery snack"
Bring back Unit 4.
UGC- expensive, but Good.
Used to be Virgin but some three initial company have taken over. Bowlin rules,as does Lazer Quest(and if anyone finds a grey plec, with a hole in, in there its mine!)The Go-Karting is pretty damn good tooo...a bit expensive but cool!
UGC Cinemas
Virgin cinema - seats are too small
May I just thank whoever it was that shut down the Ritz and say a personal thank you to Mr Branson for opening Virgin Cinemas in Wigan. I can finally go to the pictures and not cripple myself when I'm in there by being screwed up into the tiniest ball on a seat that is as comfortable as the floor.
The Virgin multiplex is cool. One of the best (and most expensive) around.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Wigan.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Wigan.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
