The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
Pies are to Wigan what Rugby League is to St Helens
Events : Haigh Hall Music Festival! FANTASTIC!
Fat tony's bookies, new!!!!
go to the shops in orrell near st peters and you will see him walking round, he owns everything there!!!! he's italien you will know who i mean if you go.
I live in Wigan but work in many other towns, cities in North-West. Nowhere else has friendlier people, very welcoming and so nice, with the best sense of humour. I get lots of stick for living in Wigan but am proud of background and what it has made me!
'Greater Manchester', ram it !!! Knowhere, you should know better. The only people who recognise this fictional area are Manc politicians & the M.E.N, who like to think their city is bigger than it actually is. WIGAN IS IN LANCASHIRE AND HAS BEEN FOR 750 YEARS. And before any gobby Mancs start gobbing off, MANCHESTER IS IN LANCASHIRE TOO. Read your history & you'll see that despite brainwashing by the authorities, the REAL county of Lancashire was never abolished, the ignorant London politicians superimposed fake areas on our county in 1974 hoping that no-one would notice.
PS The same goes for 'Merseyside'. I don't think Garswood or half of Billinge are by the side of the Mersey...or am I missing something ? LIVERPOOL IS IN LANCASHIRE AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN. CHECK YOUR HISTORY ! By the way, the gobby Scouse local politicians are proposing a name change for their fictional area, get this- they want to call it 'Greater Liverpool' ! Sure that'll go down well in St Helens or Birkenhead. Get real people.
Do not come to wigan its a shithole make no mistake!
The famous adopt a Wiganer programme founded by the Walkabout for their staff to do whatever they can to bring a little happiness to a wiganers life!!!!
go and visit opies museum of memories down at wigan pier its great
apart from liverpool wigan has the most fit lads crammed into 1 place than ive eva sin.
In recent years, the number of caravans parked on driveways where I live has multiplied dramatically. These ugly white monstrosities should all be dumped at the bottom of the nearest quarry, preferably with the sad people who own them in residence. Why do we have to have these eyesores imposed on us? The owners should be forced to pay to park them in a specialist storage area, where somebody will eventually set fire to the whole lot of them.
Wigan is the best place in the world! becouse its big and happining!
wigan should change its name to pie land, go round a corner and a pie shop will be there.
wigan is a denomination of LANCASHIRE not merseyside or manchester --- LANCASHIRE, get it right.
Ummmmm jus come! sales are on every january, thats ur best bet but don't argue or someone will throw a pie in ur face!

Their is no such county as Greater Manchester! Wigan is in Lancashire!
Gosh look at all those smashed up bus stops, kids on gas and booze, 'if it works break it' mentality abounds, too dier to continue.
Wigan has changed dramatically, mostly over the last 20 or so years. There's more to do and see and the town itself is much cleaner. Marsh Green has been totally transformed and also Norley Hall where I grew up has much improved. Worsley Hall has come up a good bit but MG has to have beaten the lot. Close neighbourhoods have been decimated tho....Lamberhead Road and district has seen its community ravaged. Despite the employment situation, there is still good opportunity to improve, esp if you are young enough/determined by ploughing all your efforts into education. To all you Wiganers' out there YOU CAN DO IT!
Nice Lads
Out of all the places I have been in this world, Wigan is the place I would like to be. That may sound sad, but I feel 'at home' when I'm here. I know that if I went away for 30 years, that if I came back I would still be welcome. I am proud to be a Wiganer and although I have ambitions to do a lot with my life, I know that despite where I go and what I do; I'll die here...
An addition to the comment about the owner of Pemps- She really is a pain in the rectal passage. Besides, I've been in there before and it's crap! Hanging around in the escalator area of the Galleries is guaranteed to get you a date with someone- although you probably should at least ask their age first (If they lie, that's fair enough!)
The only 3 words wiganers can say: I LOVE PIES!!
Wiganers have the best accent ever!!!
The Shell Garage in Billinge isn't so bad anymore as we sorted it out
Whatch out for new Wigan band, "VIVID". Playing at Manchester roadhouse soon. Gonna be big!
NOT ALL WIGANERS ARE PIE EATERS WE DO HAVE CHINESSE CHIPPYS YOU KNOW!!!
The reason Wiganers are called PIE EATERS is not because off the inordinate amount of dead flesh that they eat wrapped up in soft pastry. It is because in the general strike of the 1920's the town of wigan where the first town to break the strike, and therfore had to eat HUMBLE PIE. So eat that scabs.

I LOVE WIGAN PEOPLE
no-one from wigan ever moves anywhere different. Come down to london and bring some pies because i'm stuck with all the damn southeners
Aye your rugby team can fair kick those southerners arses.
Wigan is the site of a Roman settlement. It's Roman name is Coccium (sp?)
So what's all this about pies? I lived in Wigan for 30 years and only had a "normal" share of pie. Perhaps it's changed along with Central Park but I was there last August and the only noticed "pie associated difference" was that Dave Whelan had purchased the Pooles pie shop chain. So, you St. Helens suppoprters, who's going to win the Boxing Day match this time?
Who says Wigan Athletic are "not up to much"? Good chance of promotion this year [96]. Best home wins record in the entire Football League (shame they went to sleep on the coach to away matches for most of the season). We have the "Three Amigos" - Diaz, Seba and Martinez - to set Div 3 alight.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
