Record Shops
Go to the corn exchange in Leeds - great vinyl shop downstairs - loadsa dnb etc
It would have to be MVC for value and selection although, of course, there is Woolies...
Dead Wax, Byram Arcade
hmv iz wiked get me
The one in Kingsgate. Not always got all the CD's but definely cheapest for what they have.
Where has dead wax records gone to ?
After a trip into town it seems that dead wax has been replaced by a sad clothes shop,as if there aren't enough clothing stores.
hmv in kingsgate, good 4 all kinds of cds n often has sales! oh and music zone as wel
Music choice is crap.Leeds or Meadowhall beckons.
mvc neare the libary dead wax records in byram below the bus station
RIVERSIDE STUDIOS est1981 OPENING SOON IN HUDDERSFIELD
WEST YORKSHIRES NO.1 RECORDING & REHEARSAL FACILITIES
Deadwax records in the Byram arcade, nice selection of 2nd hand vinyl cheap CD's and Morgan's usually good about ordering stuff in, even imports
badlands, music zone in the shitgate, rocksoff
Badlands! or the record shop in Byram Arcade on the upper floor!
Fourth Wave when it used to be on John William Street. More room.
badlands indie/dance/specialist also buy gig tickets there.fourth wave dance choons at top o town
the saturday open air market - if yr into cheap stolen stuff - i got a few cool cd's there - sleater kinney, unwound and pavement!
polar bear - sell yr shit cd's there and watch people buy then for twice the amount you recieved for them - ggggrrrr
4th Wave was better when it was on John William Street and sold T-Shirts. You could "browse" for hours whilst plucking up enough courage to try and buy some poppers.
fulcram - but don't like the staff
fourthwave
Dead Wax records in Byram's Arcade (top floor, so for fit music lovers only). If it has ever been released on vinyl, chances are you'll find it there.
Polar Bear is superb for reletively recent releases at cheap prices.
MVC has the largest selection of CDs and Videos in Huddersfield.
Dead Wax in the Byram Arcade (second hand records, tapes and CDs).
badlands records, or rocks off record! 2 great places for finding a bit of wot u like!
BASSBIN RECORDS - COOL SELECTION OF INDEPENDENT MUSIC (HIP-HOP/FUNK/DANCE)
The 2nd Hand Market on Sat/Tue has a surprising range of new releases at cheap prices - best not to ask where they're from though.
Dont buy records, they are sooo last century!
Dead Wax in the Byram Arcade - one small shop stuffed with vinyl, tapes and CDs. I don't the fella who owns it truely knows everything he's got.
Third Wave, Fulcrum and Badlands arethe alternative shops. Polar do second hand CDs, Dead Wax also does second hand vinyl
Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
Zepher Bar for interesting up and coming bands.
Vox is great. it's just behind wetherspoons cherry tree and has a great laid-back vibe. come here if you like real cocktails, not the crap you get in an average pub with about 6 on the menu. These guys will make anything you want - just make sure u tip them if u like the drink!
Visage & Ethos, Bar Non (if it's still around), Scream (unless it has changed it name since I left last year), the College Arms (warm reception from the lovely barmaid!), the Railway Tavern
CHI Cocktail Lounge, Kinng Street. This fantastic venue offers music from Wednesday through to Saturday playing the very best funky house, soulful house and dirty disco. The venues resident DJs play throughout the north of England and pride themselves in bringing a feel good party vibe to Huddersfield, which, unfortubatly is somthing that seems to be missing from most other venues. Get down for some Interesting cocktails(The chief bottle spinner, Mario, came 10th in the world championships this year for his cocktail making skills!!)and some seriously funky music.
Good for R'n'B : Bar Amour, Tokoyo', Livingstones upstairs.
Tokyo.. the hottest place to go in Hudds defo... Visage is way too tacky (and i dont just mean the floor)and theres not really anywhere else.
Quality night out at affordable prices! pitchers of alchol for five pounds in lloyds!BARGIN!
visage 4 teenagers
Sharkeys is ok for cocktails.. lloyds is ok.. but it has a bad reputation.. well i have never seen out bad about it!!
elements on a thursday and the lockwood on a monday and the station tavern on fridays!
Formerly Rat and Parrot, and The Foyer, now LIVINGSTONES!! Total transformation, pub to club, drinks promos, which are always welcome! Some weekends seem to be for over 40's and can get sweaty! But good fun none the less!!
heaven and hell if u like loads of dickheads around
Empire Cinema Club, is a cosy little venue by the market, with some good retro-stuff
Eden is long gone lol
Bar Non has also closed. (permenantly?)
Abes (Abrahams) but thats closing in January so get in early, oh and the alternative night at the Warehouse (Tuesday) is worth going to if only cos it's free and theres cheap drink.
ethos & visage for twockerness, heaven & hell for cheapness and camel on a monday for sweetness. go to wharehouse too.
If your under 18 Dance Paradise the teenage dance night at Club Paparazzi is definatley the best place to go it's pumping full of fit birds and and they have some mint live acts on too.
The Camel Club is wicked!!
Abrahams on a Friday Nite, Metal, Punk, the whole shebang! Other than that, you got the Warehouse doin an Alt. Nite. And the Rock Cafe for dirty cheap cocktails on a Thurday night.
all pretty crap
CAMEL CLUB - Saturday night 'Across the Tracks' - soul funk and old 45s, the best night, the best atmosphere and no dress code means everyones relaxed and chilled and has a really good time.
clubs? u eva visited ne of the so called 'clubs' in huddersfield ive seen more action in a nursing home than in ne of the clubs round here my advice get out go leeds or manchester! even beta go abroad!
Club Ran X aka Montegos. Dodgy place. But if you into the Garage Scene and you is a Mic Chatter bring yu'll be luvin' it, luvin it, luvin it.
Huddersfield has to be the best - NOT
For clubs I suggest only thew camel and abrahams, anywhere else will severely mash with your brain
what clubs???????? you have to go to leeds to get a decent night out.
ABRAHAMS!! - its the place to go. Friday nites DJ rock/ metal/ punk/ ska/ alternative/ hip-hop/ basically anything decent!! However if you go there often you may get fed up with the same tunes being played every week. If you do, pop on down to the WAREHOUSE instead (used to be the Firkin). Rock on Huddersfield......!
visage & ethos good gettin a bit too garagey ethos too cheesy but cheaper drinks than visage next door.grab a granny central JOHNNYS been going ages.CHICAGOS mainstream inbetween V&E and JOHNNYS age group. trendy crowd club non
Abrahams if you are disallusioned, desperately want to be Marilyn Manson or the Clown out of Slipknot and feel you don't fit in. Here you can get ratarsed on as much cider as you can afford, jump around like a fuckwit, smash into people who are TRYING TO HAVE A GOOD TIME, fall over and start crying when anyone over the age of 20 threatens to kill you if you don't stop beig such a TWAT.
Only place going if you like good music, ie deep us house & funky french stuff is Bar Non - uk garage fortunately doesn't feature. If it's jazz you're after there is an excelent jazz night at the Head of Steam
CAMEL is great!! Abit like a meat market, But chance of free drinks on Mondays!!! Visage fun, but doesn't change from one week to the next, you have to be very pissed to Enjoy it!
Ethos and Visage are total dives and charge extortionate entrance fees. IMHO, places to be avoided. Johnnie's is the classic small-town meat market, but has good karaoke. Stick to the pubs, many are now opening till 1am Friday and Saturday - the local beaks hand out late licences like Smarties.
THE WAREHOUSE is the place to be!! when it finally opens! ITS in DECEMBER!!!
CAMEL CLUB - DECENT CLUB THAT HAS NO DRESS RESTRICTIONS ON THURSDAY (HIP-HOP & FUNK) & SATURDAY (OLD SKOOL FUNK & SOUL). ANYONE THAT THINKS THE PEPPERHOUSE WAS BETTER MUST STILL HAVE THE HANGOVER!
Johhny's. I asked the Bouncer whattype of music was being played one Saturday night. "wharrevere you like my love" was the reply. It was a goddamn lie.
What clubs? If you count the "Camal Club" as one you're sadly mistaken. Although "Shag Tag" for students on a Monday is brilliant. Probably because the locals arent allowed in. "Visage" is classy! You've heard about Jhonny's then? "Eden" is closed at the moment which is sad, due to re-open at Christmas time I believe.
Well not many clubs in huddersfield are worth a mention, apart from abrahams, cool indie music, no dress code!! cheap(ish) beer and lots of cute guys!!real place to go for a mosh, plus its got nice chill out zones, comfy setees to get smoochy on - the BEST!!
There's a rather sad 'club' near the B&Q store. I think its called HTFC at somewhere called the Mac.
Johnny's: if you want to pull a slapper (of any age), and wake up in one of the seedier areas of town this is the place to go (I have personally ended up in one of the tower blocks at Berry Brow after pulling a Johnny's slapper - unfortunatley the bitch robbed me).
If you want a good 'ole fight try visiting the Saddle on Lindley, someone will happily twat you free of charge.
the pepper house no longer exists it is now a very upper class nightclub called The Camel Club and take it from me the Pepper House was better!
Johnny's - superb for picking up 40 year old slappers and waking up the next morning on some dodgy council estate
Avoid Johnnie's at all costs. It probably hasn't had a refit since my dad used to try and get in there underage in the 60s
I'm tired of this dress code joke. Who do these sad club and bar owners think they are, like say, "Bar Non" near the station. Is that a joke name or what ? If they turn me away for not having shiny shoes I tell all my friends to avoid it. Spend your money somewhere else than "Bar Non". Any recommendations for "Best No Dress Code" club ???
Beyond Beach Babylon does regular dance nights
Visage & Ethos - Good on a Wednesday night. £1 entrance for members (free membership) and £1 a pint. 80's music in Ethos, 90's in Visage.
Visage - the most happening place for under 18's
Abrahams on a friday night- funk/old skool saturday-alternative and hip-hop
Well, where do we start: Eden - at the University. Superb array of nights - Pop(Mon), Soul(Tue), Bop Till You Cop(Thurs), Dance (Fri & Dance) - Cheap, lots of boys/girlies and great fun. Ethos/Visage - towny clubs but damn good fun..fairly tough on the door i.e. no scruffs or attitudes, but if you are friendly no probs..friday and saturday are the best Pepper House - bizarre dark seedy corridor that can become very smokey, but still good fun on wednesday night
Live Music Venues
check out Bar 1 Twenty
timeless festival every year in ravensknowle park. Vox are doing open mic nights, as are bar 1twenty. vox also do pro live nights
Try the Picturedrome at Holmfirth..We dont do crap ..
melaa!!!
lockwood in lockwood
most pubs bigger bands play at the macalpine stadium somtimes
One of the big issue sellers down on the piazza has taken to singing...badly, and theres usualy a busker outside boots, just be warned somtimes its a drippy student with a flute
There is a collective in the Byram Arcade, upstairs, called Culture in Kirklees, who will be able to point you in the direction of all the local creative types and venues etc. Ask for Sarah. They also have facilites for artists and possible PA hire/studio space.
RIVERSIDE STUDIOS EST 1981 OPENING SOON IN HUDDERSFIELD
WEST YORKSHIRES NO.1 RECORDING & REHEARSAL FACILITIES
abrahams, tho it shuts down on 31st october
Dance Paradise u18s at Paparazzi have live PA's.
The Camel now have a live music night almost every thursday.
Abrahams often has a good live music scene for up & coming artists use to have a great atmosphere - though not sure now
Head Of Steam (at the railway station) does mid-week gigs. Ecclectic is the word, I think; jazz, alternative folky-rocky stuff. Just the sort of thing undergraduate posers and middle-aged hippies adore. I love it.
A boring band comes once every 2 or 3 years to the Mc Alpine. Go to Manchester.
The lockwood, you can hear some good bands here...cant mention them all but most of them are fantastic
Us Yorkshire folk are well talented, Can I say i totally disagree with the comment made before about rigsby being 'up their own arse' I think they are fantastic, as do loads of other people!
abrahams - buzzkill and 86 once played there
the west - full of pookas.....but some bands play there - all the bands are shit poop though
The Boy and Barrell for a tone deaf geriatric on an organ and a bunch of toothless 80 year olds trying to eat pie and peas.
Four Horseshoes, Milnsbridge. Live bands every Friday, free entrance and the landlady (as of December 2000) likes flashing her tits.
McAlpine stadium, if they ever put any more bands on
NO LIVE MUSIC ALLOWED IN HUDDERSFIELD.
abrahams in westgate a new promotion has started on wednesdays from the end of august playing the kind of music you want to hear so why not come along beer promotions available
The Parish Pump, occasionally. My lounge.
You can go and see some crappy huddersfield bands in Oneils, or Yorkshire Victoria, though most bands in huddersfield have this kind of 'im so much better than you' attitude.
One of the called 'Rigsby' aka halcyon daze used to be good, they sound ok, but need more imagination. Just dont talk to em, each member has the worst attitude ever, they think they are gods gift to women...yeah right!
The Yorkshire Vic pub near Visage may still do live music on weekday nights
alfred mcalpine stadium
Eden - university often invites acts for the pleasure of everyone...
