The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
I grew up in Hull until I was 22 when I moved to the USA. The place was an abomination then, and is an abomination now - look at the education statistics, the crime statistics and the overall state of the place. It's an embarrassment to Yorkshire and it's surrounding Cities. I've been away 4 years, and the only thing I miss is a good old serving of patty & chips!
There no Band stand any more its been demolished.
If you go to university here, stay in Ferens Hall in the first year and you'll have the time of your life.
Nice to see that Newland High School is still there and going strong. You Go Girls.

Hull is the best City in the North, if not Britain, no doubt about it.
With an independent telephone system it's not surprising that Hull has a prolific
hacking and phreaking scene which originally grew from University students but now has members
from all over the place (including the local ISP, Karoo Internet). Meets every first
Friday of the month at the Old Grey Mare pub, Cottingham Road, at 7pm.
Whitefriargate is pronounced WhiteFRAgate!! NOT FRIARgate
Footy: I would argue that, looking at recent attendaces etc., the footy is at least AS POPULAR as the rugby league. Hull City just never reaches its full potential It tends to be outsiders who view it as `rugby only` as its the sport which gets us to Wembly / on the television occasionaly
Red light district: between Anlaby road and the river.
I lived in Hull for the first 14 years of my life and they were excellent awesome years. Born and raised in East Hull but then moved to Australia with my family in 1971. Lived on a remote cattle station ever since ! Not much comparison but I still call Hull "home"
The people are straightforward and uncomplicated.
Nostalgia Things: Still follow the Tigers (Hull City a.f.c). Spent most of my weekends pub crawling with my friends. Ye Olde White Hart, Good Fellowship Inn, West Bulls, Marrowbone & Cleaver to name but a few. I lived all over the place born in West Hull (Gypsyville), lived on Longhill till I was 11, then moved to Bricknell Ave. Ex Hull Grammar School (floreat nostra schola). Moved away in 1975 and went to live in Gibraltar. What a place... gotta go back someday. Came to Canada in 1977 and been here ever since. Miss the pubs and soccer games. Anybody out there knows Rick Kemp or Esperanza Brunton (nee Stowell) say hi! Carl Nutbrown 102620.1223@compuserve.com
The Humber bridge is the longest single span suspension bridge in the world, at least until the Japanese finish building theirs in a few years. It's fairly impressive.
I would like to add my feelings, comments and general thoughts about Hull. I am now living in the US but lived in Hull for about 11 years. The people are some of the warmest, friendliest people I have ever met. They are also the weirdest! I lived in an area called the Avenues which Is a kind of village unto itself. Great shopping, pubs, wholefood, new age, fishmongers, you name it they've got it shops. You walk down the street and you will invariably meet someone that you know! Probably a few people actually. People are generally poor and unpretentious. And I still have many wonderful friends there.
I've lived in Hull all my life and it's probably one of the best towns in the UK. It's been said before, but for the most part the people are friendly, the beer's good and the nightlife has something to suit everyone. It might be out on a limb as far as big cities go and it seems to have a wierd reputation in the South, but it is definitely worth spending a few days in Hull.

Ooooooooooollllldd Faithfull, We roam the range for ever, Ooooooooooollllldd Faithful, in any kind of weather, when the round up days are over, and the Boulevard's full of clover, old faithfull Pal of mine.
This is the song that can be heard around the boulevard, home of Hull FC rugby league team. Rugby league is THE most important sport in the area, with many local amateur teams attracting bigger crowds than Hull City football club. The humour is excellent, (when the red, red, robins go bob, bob, bobbing along, shoot the bastards shoot the bastards, shoot, shoot, shoot!, is one of many chants to be heard insulting our rivals Hull KR) one has to go to a match, just to count how many times "Gerram onsiiiide!" can be heard. Soon to be in the Super league, this is the place to go in Hull.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
