Midhurst, West Sussex Triumphs and Tragedies

* Important Note: all entries in the Knowhere Guide are the opinions of its users. see What is Knowhere for more info about the Guide.

Favourite Building

  • The bus stand and the old doctors surgery. The cameras can't see our ilegal antics when we are in there.
  • cowdray ruins is a very attractive building, situated at the end of the causeway at the bottom of north street, it has alot of history that goes with it
  • All the buildings in the town centre, and the Cowdray Ruins.
  • Most of the old buildings in the town centre
  • Knockhundred Row has some really nice buildings in it
  • Are we talking architect kinda opinion or favorite place to be? Well, I guess The tuck shop.
  • Midhurst Grammar School, Cowdray Ruins, all the buildings around the market square
  • The Hotel Graham Grange
  • The ruins.
  • Cowdray Ruins.

Demolish It Now Building

  • Midhurst Grammer School, probably the shittest one you'll come across in your whole life! 4eva and eva amen!
  • The school. It sucks!. None of us need to go to school we've learnt enough so knock it down.
  • Nothing in particular, except perhaps the housing estate on Holmbush Way. I think there's meant to be a caravan park in Midhurst somewhere, but I've never seen it. If it does exist, flatten it! !
  • The Catholic Church on Bepton Road - a bit too striking
  • Somerfield's in the High Street is a TOTAL waste of space!!
  • oohhh! There are plenty, the grange centre, CONIFERS JUNOIR SCHOOL (I went there, and IT SUCKS!!!!)
  • the horrible sixties monstrosity that is the Somerfield supermarket in North Street
  • Mr Ives' Office
  • Midhurst Grammar School - It's a fucking toilet, filled with Idiotic antiquated arseholes for staff.
  • The Grange Centre - any houses pre 1980.

The Best Things

  • the best things are the friends
  • The people are cool. Some of the best skaters I've seen in real life come from Midhurst(Gusto and Ad,HIYA!)
  • Midhurst is a very attractive town in a beautiful and prosperous part of Sussex, and Chichester and Guildford are both within easy reach.
  • Being a quiet a generally well-off town. London is only about 50 miles distant. Most of the people I've come across are very friendly. Midhurst is clearly better than Petworth (Midhurst's rival town). The town centre isn't clogged with traffic, it isn't over-run with tourists, and it's generally got a lot more going for it.
  • I can walk to the pub & the shops!!! (I used to live in Hardham, Pulborough which is in the middle of nowhere) The Polo crowd are GORGEOUS!!!
  • Putting on Gothic make up then walking around the church and scaring people (oohh I'm naughty!!!) Having a coffee at a cafe, making a complete arse of yourself while intoxicated beyond the capacity to stand up, oh, plenty if your looking on those lines!! hahahaha!!!
  • There are a lot of great people in Midhurst, and there is a real sense of community. It is nice to walk down the street and recognise many friendly faces. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking, the town is beautiful
  • Getting wrecked on whatever substance is around.
  • Pissing it up in the crown. Having a curry at the pubani.
  • Quiet, fishing, beer and great fast roads.
  • The video shop in the town is a good place to go for new and old releases and it is the only video hiring shop in the area to supply the video cases with their proper covers.
  • Midhurst is the polo capital of England and there are plans to build a £6 million stadium.
Just to say that Midhurst may be the Polo capital of the universe, but the new polo centre IS NOT going to be built after all!
  • Midhurst has no clubs or skateboard shops but is, nevertheless an exciting, interesting and fun town to visit and live in.

The Worst Things

  • the worst things are the enemies!!! oh and the pigs always sticking there fuckin noses in!!!
  • THE PIGS SHOULD GO TO HELL ANS STOP TELLING US KIDS OFF WHEN PLACES ARE GETTING ROBBED AND PEOPLE ARE GETTING STABBED RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSES!!! HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE!! WE MAKE THE TOWN WHAT IT IS, AN ABSOLUTE DUMP!!!!!!!!!
  • Nearest railway station being 9 miles away in Haslemere, which is in a whole different county!
  • The nearest railway station (at Haslemere) is 8 miles away. Midhurst is quite a stuck-up town, but I suppose that's better than being like Milton Keynes!
  • The Polo crowd are stuck-up!!
  • There are no cinemas, night clubs,DECENT clothes shops, skateboard parks,or any place where you can be a NORMAL teenager and not get scunted.
  • As someone who has lived here my whole life, I can say that it is very small-minded, and people here tend to be a bit suspicious and often downright rude (particularly some of the till ladies in Somerfield). The atmosphere on Friday nights can be frightening, and there is more and more violence, vandalism and drug abuse.
  • The town is stuck in a timewarp back in the 60's and is going nowhere, the kids are a bunch of wasters.
  • not being able to get wrecked.
  • The wHOLE place!
  • toffs nothing for under 18s
  • Quiet and snobbish - not much to do except drink.
  • The local bearded grumpy policeman who jumps on you as soon as you pull up to post a letter, the traffic warden does Elvis impersonations and is OK.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Midhurst. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Midhurst.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
