Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • Maureen Cleeve's Stepping Out in North Street which is always buzzy has come in for some flack recently from the District Council. Her shop front of shocking pink does'nt conform with convention and offends the council planners. When we have the intrusive Royal Blue of Tescoes fiurther up the street and the shambles which is Sommerfields opposite it seems quite ripe for the Council to criticise poor little Stepping Out.
  • Stepping Out In Style has some nice things, if you're a freaking hippy. Other than that, the charity shops are sometimes worth a try, but I only ever come up with a bargain once in a while, and I am by no means the most discerning person. Oh, it might just be my imagination, but I swear that the charity shops in Midhurst are becoming insanely overpriced... over twenty quid for a pair of second-hand boots showing wear? You must be joking!
  • the sports shop if you need a pair of sexy shorts
  • nope oh actually we hav an old grannys shop and charity shops!and stepping out which is kind of ok
  • Just expensive shops selling tatt or cheap shops selling tatt
  • If you define clothes shops as second hand cancer aid shops then I advise macmillan (opposite one stop)
  • Nearly all the pricey boutiques have closed down, paving the way for even more charity shops!
  • Err - Oxfam and a few pricey boutiques.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • A Touch of Art Gallery, Canvas oil paintings, Italian design Mirros, Sculptures, Picture Framing, Digital Photo Framing, you can visit us on www.atouchofart.co.uk
  • About a mile outside the town on the Petersfield Rd is Philip Jackson's studio. If you didn't know this already, he's the Royal Sculptor and does the most amazing sculptures. The Angel Hotel had an exhibition of his stuff in the garden last summer. The Studio Gallery - Philip Jackson's own place - is open more or less the whole year with on-going art exhibitions with some fabulous contributors. Philip has a fan club of younger types (and older), especially those in graphic design and the arts trying hard to emulate his style. Have contributed myself to online forums debating his work.
  • There is a decent art shop at the entrance to Grange Road car park, which sells paintbrushes and other art supplies. I believe they also sell a limited range of paintings. For other crafty things, Ark Stationary (on the roundabout) and Richard Green (just up the road) are both pretty good.
  • one, but that got a brick through the window. the youth of Midhurst aren't the aesthetes they once were.
  • Try Amanda Hancock Jewellery next door to Charlie's Wine Bar in Knockhundred Row some fantastic designs in silver and gold,Great for inspiration.
  • The bloody grange centre.
  • It's all twee galleries and craft/antique shops.

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • The Tuck Shop (on North Street) and Dummers (on West Street) are run by the same people, but both carry a gargantuan selection of magazines and newspapers, including some imports.
  • Dummers with tubbs from royston Vasey, and the Garage with the top shelf mags.
  • one stop what a bargain place
  • Dummers is your first port of call
  • dummers, tuckshop both owned by the same family and one stop where you hav to take your school bag off in there coz they fink u'll nick sumink!
  • FINALLY!! A reasonable question, the tuck shop and One Stop are the best newsagents.
  • I remember the newspaper shop,on WestStreet run by "Old Man Potts:" - sons Matthew and Simon in the 60's, are they still there?

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Midhurst. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Midhurst.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
