Food
A new Pizza Express has opened in 2002!!! (have to go round the back to get in by the way. Two for one Fajitas in teh Folly resturant on Tuesdays.
Where is Cilantros, walked my socks off trying to find it. Not listed with telephone co. Follys wine bar - great food and atmosphere
I'd like to stand up for the Kebab van in the square. The Kebab shop (despite it's deceptive cleanliness and professionalism) is in fact a much dodgier prospect. Van food tastes better and you're less likely to regret it in the morning.
Really good Indian, Greek and Chinese take aways...good Thai restaurant called 'The River Kwai' and 'Ask' for Italian food.
One of the best restaurants in Petersfield is Cilantro and the Folly Wine bar do the best Fajitas ever.
The Pasta Shop - fresh pasta to die for.
You're right about the kebab wagon in the square - it does give you the shits. You should try Petersfield Kebab House in Chapel Street: they actually cook the meat! The best thing about Petersfield is the Indian resteraunt called the "Paribar" in Lavant Street, nice food, friendly waiters and the lager's not to fizzy.
Pubs
Some people say spit and sawdust.... but the Market is a wonderful pub, the Landlady always makes her customers feel valued & welcome which I guess is why it is busy all through the week and not just weekends!
Red Lion is a good place to start the night, before going to Dirty Verts (name not given for condition of club, just a cool nickname for it)
Market- possibly the worst pub in the world, and that's why we love it so. Makes a change from the Square, which is possibly the best pub in the world as long as you're on the right side of the landlady.
Tonnes of excellent pubs in town and on the outskirts..its pub land!
The five bells pub in the village of Buriton ( actually nothing more than another section of petersfield) They have great lager and good food.
The Harrow is still alive and kicking-shame about the bypass! And you should visit the Trooper inn at Froxfield before it closes it is a real drinking experience.
The Harrow used to be good and had its own cricket team attached. Is it still around?
Depends what you're after. For a lads night out - the Red Lion and the Folly Wine Bar are always crowded, and there are dozens of other fairly non-descript places around the centre of town. If you're after decent ale, there are some very good pubs in the surrounding villages - The White Horse (Pub With No Name), The Hawkley Inn, The Three Horseshoes (Elstead) etc.
