Record Shops

  • impulse where fopp use to be, still prettty pricey though
  • Woolworths Strand is good WH Smiths and theres probably a couple more.
  • spin a disc, its not worth even going there, try the internet...
  • Spin-a-disc records in the Clock Towers Rugbys sole independant music shop
  • Spinadiscs are the best, specially if u like rock music, guarantee they will either hav the cd u want or they will know exactly which one u mean an can get it 4 u in a couple of days. Is a must 4 rock music lovers! an pretty hot guys in there too!
  • spinadisks nd strand both pretty crappy
  • spinadisc, the only one
  • Spinerdisc great music shop with excellent service they can get you any music you want including vinals so everyones happy. amazing rock collection :D
  • The Strand is cheap with a good selection of second hand music
  • There WERE plenty. Like most of RUGBY, all shut down by high rates/rent, theres now ONE, in the precinct, good or bad? who cares you got no choice. oh yea, woolies, sorry, VYNIL what? oh, and tesco, limited to top 40, and do you want a cabbage with that?
  • Spin-a-disc is the only record shop in town, with a limited choice of CD's & DVD's - otherwise it has to be the crap selection at WHSmith's or Woolworths since the Virgin V-Shop was so crap it closed down!
  • spinadisc ..........yerp THATS IT
  • spinnadisc has a wide selection of music
  • spinadisc its far better than virgin records
  • Spinadisc... til the end of time i'l shop there
  • hey dude, don't slate woolies, they pay my wage...spinadisc is alrite, you can order prety much anything if you relly want it.
  • spinadisc is ok at best go to birmingham
  • virgin its cheap
  • spin-a-disc. best of seven eigths of nothing. ooh and we've got a virgin megastore express (which means it stocks nothing and is too expensive)
  • Spinadisc is a good independent, although its vinyl selection isn't what it was. Good for bargains, as stuff often ends up in the £3 rack. Chart CDs generally around £12.50, and a good selection of more obscure stuff. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
  • Spinadisc V-Shop
  • I believe 'It's a Gift' currently holds the record for containing the largest amount of Tat in the Western Hemisphere. A Hefty Record. In conclusion don't come here for phonograph recordings.
  • spin-a-disc;was gud wen it opend but now the prices hav gone up. if its chart albums ur after try Sainsbury's coz ther bou £9.99 which is bit of a bargain
  • Spinadisc is very good, they have pretty much everything, and if they don't have it, they'll order it for you asap.
  • ok. there's a good selection of everything in Spinadisc in the Clock Towers Shopping Centre. There's a Virgin shop but they only sell albums. That's about it!
  • Spinadisc is definately the best in Rugby
  • SPINADISC!!!! Nice & cheap & always has th CDs u want!
  • spinadisc is excellent
  • spin-a-disc, forget the others
  • Try Strand 4 second hand obscure stuff
  • well there used to be an ourprice but then they closed and opened virgin so noone goes there anymore. theres spin a disc for good alternative music or there is the cheap alternative of getting your mates to make copies.
  • Sinadisc is pretty damn GNARLY
  • Spin-A-Disc is the only place for vinyl. Bit 1-dimensional, 50 bins of Ibiza/'Trance'/LameTurd, 3-4 worth digging about in. Listening deck, 'nice' staff (speak to Alun for orders...he don't give up!)
  • Theres now two main record shops, our price by the clock tower and spinadisc in the centre, neither are particularly stunning
  • There is not a HMV or any other decent record store in Rugby, if there was I wouldn't have to go to Coventry all the time to buy cd's
  • Theres a stall in the indoor market called the Strand which is quite good. He sells videos and CD's and tapes like most places. Our Price, Spinadisc and Woolworths are the only others
  • Well, the recent dimise of Backtrax, has caused a a gap in the market, but only for a ravey, pipe selling kind 'o' place. There's the usual HMV etc.

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • Clubs well we have Walkabout Club DNA And that really is it Chumleys was good now shut down Flares was ok it was cheap and full of older and dodgy likes myself included damn sorry about that. Dicky Bos Shut down Wetherspoons well its allright full of unemployed people who get drunk on cheap beer sorry.
  • Clubs-do me a favour,a bunch of wannabe promoters who get the opportunity with good venues and turn them into UFC rings for all the dickheads that are in the place
  • Quigleys Irish Pub has a genuine fun atmosphere, Wetherspoons is the worst in the UK, lousy food all the time and they cant keep beer properly. Madisons is a great club, they play duff music through failing speakers and every night is punch up night on the dancefloor. The whole dance floor with snooker tables in just another highlight
  • O'hagens rules!!!! wicked place to spend ur friday nites, gr8 crowd of ppl there, pretty decent music too, now called club DNA i think, but a really decent place 2 hang out with ur mates.
  • Please bring back Daisys!!!! Chinese restaurant indeed!
  • O'Hagens thats the place to be on a friday night. Its a bit of a shit hole but it our shit hole full of lovely people and a few strange ones so its always interesting. Check out the Alexander Arms aswell rock pub in the back room normal old man pub in the front. Juke Box, pool table, skittles table and a beer garden all in the back.
  • Quigley's Irish Bar next to the main post office is the best in town, a real atmosphere and live Irish folk bands playing. Everyone in Quigley's wants a good time and plenty of Guiness, not to smash your face in.
  • o'hagans
  • ohagens rocks its a great place for local an wider bands to have their chance at playing in the gig scene.
  • o'hagans....loving it when your shoes stick to the floor.
  • gas street is shut down.walkaboat is crap
  • fancy a fight tonoight? go to walkabout. rock? go to o'hagans. anything else? go home.
  • some rubbish nu-metal shie called o'pikey's or summat. aviod.
  • I heard they all shut down apart from Gas Street which is still going. The place is terrible, If your forty and single get yo'bad self down there as you'll still be thought of as young, available and feelin' a vibe. There seems to be a local past time of putting wheelie bins in trees, shouting abuse at houses, vandalising for Sale signs, fighting, whoring, pissing in the gutter (females only), animal baiting, mullet fancying, stealing various building materials from the scaffolding outside the school, cone racing, kebab eating, kebab kicking, lighting kebab boxes, posting kebab boxes through letter boxes, posting kebab boxes containing piss through letter boxes, lighting serviettes inside kebab boxes, kicking kebab boxes whilst people are holding them, lighting kebab boxes that are full of piss, pissing on lit kebab boxes, throwing chips from the kebab boxes, All these are exceptable alternatives that provide more entertainment than the club/clubs in the vicinity!
  • The only club in Rugby is Gas Street and it's full of old trout and BA Bouncers, but loads of the town center pubs (Walkabout, Bar Med, Dirty Duck, Glasnost, Flares, Toad at 22, are open till 2 in he morning, so we don't need Gas Street.
  • Gas Street 2- Every Saturday night with DJ Martin Good (Swanley,Kent local hero)
  • Rugby is CRAP now LA VIDA has gone so BRING IT BAK NOW!!!
  • Best place - Chumleys fun dancefloor. Recently opened is Bar Med - very swish great for dancing the night away. La Vida has actually closed now (very anoying) rumours are its going to be opened up as an Australian chain pub called the walkabout inn. Crazy Daisy's - out of town but still brilliant.
  • Now that La Vida's shut (shame, heh), the best place to go is Bar Med or Flares. Chumleys is alright if you can stand the music in there. In Bar Med you can laugh at the crazy people dancing until you get drunken enough to dance yourself.
  • LA VIDA!!!!!!!!!!!
  • o hagans for rockers and sometimes youngsters if you know what i mean!!
  • Just like to say that Gas street 2 is really good on fridays. Some dj from down south plays all the best upfront sounds. not what you put at all.
  • all meat markets, at a push if you were desperate for more beer, you'd go to either o'hagans (rock) or gas street (dance)
  • La Vida is getting scarily young now, last time I visited at age 22 felt old enough to be some of them's mother (which wouldn't be a novelty in Rugby)
  • The Regency Club has been sold and changes hands early in june.It will be run on similar lines with all bookings upheld, but hopefully there will be some improvements.
  • Just to update, La Vida is now open till 4am. And gas St is open till 3am. CJs is supposed to be opening soon as a lap dancing bar. Now that i gotta see, they sure as hell wont be useing the local talent i`m sure.
  • Plenty of 2am drinking holes all who, since the summer, think it's IBIZA night and it's going to last FOREVER. Truth is these people ain't gotta clue mate. 'Clubs' around here are punching-holes for the dumb-scum. Believe.
  • Gas St. is shite, La Vida is OK, CJ's is a creche, O'Hagans luvs the devil, and Crazy Daisy's is wicked, but it's a few miles drive.
  • Dicky Bo,s has changed its name to cairo jaks but still the same inside. Palm Beach has also changed to La Vita its much bigger inside holds upto 1100 bods, good sound system light,s and air con
  • palm beach is mainly full of locals, actually always full of locals plus the occasional fool from out of town whos been told that its a great place to go! cairo jax - unless you want to be arrested for under age ... o'hagens - better off hanging about outside the police station, you'll see more activity that way. gas street - one of the best in rugby mainly go to pubs like chumleys for the young adult, o'neils for the alcholic,
  • Gas Street, Palm Beach, CJ's Quite a few actually
  • after a visit to the firkin mosh on down to O'Hagans aka insomnia to mosh to rock night on friday night or chill out to indie rock night on a saturday night.
  • All right for grabbing grannies.
  • Mmmm. There are a few night clubs in the area, Gas Street alright if you're over 25, and the rest, I know not their names as they change so fast, are cool for the after hours drinking.
  • Dicky Bos is not the best nightclub: the average age is young. The best places are Gas Street for the over 25's: great for grabbing a granny. Also Palm Beach: always packed at the weekends.
  • THE best club to go to in Rugby is Dicky Bo's, because there's always loo roll in the toilets unlike ANYWHERE else in Rugby! Actually it plays pretty good music too.

Live Music Venues

  • club celestial is opening (where cairo jacks use to be) and there will be bands playing there on a friday
  • Quigleys usually have live bands.
  • Quigleys worth a shot, Madisons good for a laugh if you like 40 year old scrubbers with their breasts out dancing with their single mum daughters and fighting. Avoid Flares, its full of middle aged people trying to be young again.
  • O'hagens have some really decent bands playin but nt many good ones from rugby
  • couthouse
  • O'hagens every friday have bands from half 7ish till ten then over 18 night starts with disco.
  • the best venue in this town WAS the peacock, now there aint no good venues, just bands shoved into corners of pubs.
  • Badly played irish music. Badly played jazz music. Badly played folk music. Badly played covers bands. Musicians come to rugby to die.
  • o'hagans
  • ohagens if you like punk/rock
  • Ohagans is cool but is now ful of little emo kids
  • O'hagans, getting much better now, snce that group of girls have started putting on gigs. Also theres now some regular fanzines and some good regualar bands!
  • o'hagans once more.
  • Imperial Hotel, cambridge st, rugby (opposite the chemists on craven rd) Live music on Saturdays, bands of all kinds , also DJ sets, The London House, Chapel St., (live music, from the likes of Backroom boys, retro rock, any other genre)
  • Imperial hotel , cambridge st, Good live music. Saturdays normally, some times fridays or sunday afternoons, every week summat different.
  • O'Hagans- about the only place in Rugby to hav 5 civilised people in all together in 1 place. And some of them only have 1 head.
  • o'hagans and whatever duff club the kids go to this week.
  • ah, there's a cuople, lots of bands in drugby y'know. most are sub standard emo/punk shite though.
  • Various
  • O'Hagans, nice little rock joint, charity gigs an stuf. thursday night is live all ages night, great fun. brady boys club on East Union Street have gigs on a friday of an occaision.
  • It's sad but true... there are none. With the exception of The Regency on Albert Street but not been there recently. Pubs that occasionally play host to gigs are The William Webb Ellis (on Saturdays) and Walkabout (Thursdays).
  • the firkin or the regency sometimes both are shite!!!
  • when we get some i'll let you know
  • There would be a lot more happenning in this field if the locals could be bothered to support events.most of them are either couch potatoes or they think that a live band is a bunch of kareoke singers. The best events are the ones which bring in people from out of town.
  • Pretty much 'nil. At the moment, to be fair. Rugby comes and goes even with it's smallscale scene. Usually a few bands of merry pranksters get bored and try and have a run....we slow down after p*SS-InGG in the wind...AGAIN!
  • None, the residents normally bugger off to the NEC for larger groups. The pubs have shit local bands.
  • Benn Hall, occasional good gigs.
  • Try Quigley's on Albert Street: excellent Irish bands.
  • Regency Club, Albert Street

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Rugby. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Rugby.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
