Food
Drakes, Sunrays for Fish n chips. Akaash for Indian - big time.
The Dill Tandoori rocks but bring your own booze (if you're not oo fresh faced)
tico tico
Carriages does great food and has a lovely atmosphere
The curry house on the square, the one with no drinks license )(kinda on the square ish) is the worst curry I've ever eaten, if I'd have eaten it that is. Don't go there, assume the other one is better.
Robinsons Pork Butchers for the absolute best pork pies around.
Spice Merchant do a £7 all you can eat buffet on a Sunday night. Worth starving yourself for to get maximum value out of
Tico Tico pizza kicks ass as dos akaash kebabs
Drakes chip shop is the take away place where everyone who has the munchies goes and gets very nice chips, or they go to see the very gorgeous uggy (David Lofthouse) working.
Hot Stuff Pizzas and Mean Gene Burgers can be found under one roof, but if the prices are a bit iffy - try the chippy
One of the best deli's in the area has to be The Farm Dairy. Located on the market place, it stocks an amazing variety of cheeses. Say hi to Mark or Lisa.
Riverview Chinese - best ever
Drake's, Sunrise, Chain Lane and Aragon all supply quality fish & chips
Tico Tico is the best pizza this side of Florence
Riverside Chinese takeaway is simply legendary, and Spice Merchant for indian food
DeMario's Italian Restaurant on the Waterside, opposit Mother Shiptons Cave and right underneath the famous railway viaduct. Great food & service, world chamionship class Pizza's and a terrific location.
The greatest place to stay and or enjoy great food, beer and atmosphere is Derek's Yorkshire Lass. A Scottish transplant, but nevertheless a true gentleman and fantastic host. Yorkshire Lass (opposite Mother shipton's) is a must visit.
There is the first, in England, Orion Food COurt in Knaresborough - what's new about that you may say? Well they have over 1200 pizza places in the USa and this is the first in the UK - go and try it out - the food's great. Easy to find in the Market Place opposite Boots.
fish and chip shop in the square (opposite the phone boxes) is now closed and is now a sandwichpizza take-away place
The chip shop in the Square
For a cafe with a wonderful view over the viaduct, try Munich Guest House at bottom of Kirkgate near the railway station.
The Hunstman in Cattle (A few minutes drive from Knaresborough towards York) is great. Large portions of tasty food at sensible prices.
Pubs
The Victoria in cattal! Use to the Hunstman but changed a couple of years ago! The food is great if not expensive but its worth it! The landlord is a legend! so go up to cattal! 5mins away from Knaresborough!
The So! bar is the only pub that regularly serves knaresborough's own beer: Rooster's, a late hopped marvel.
Blind Jack's for a bigger selection of fine ales.
The Crown for football. The Groves for the beer, nice pool table and gangster run.
Stacks of old mans boozers with Karaoke, and a new Montey's somewhere but not sure if it's open yet
Me and my FRESH FACED buddies are looking forward to trying our luck at Montey's (word is the bouncers are from out of town so should be a giggle)
the station pub and the mitre pub have both closed down
the station pub (also known as the shed) used to be knaresboroughs best pub till some twat bought it and closed it down
Montey's Rock Cafe is coming to knaresborough and I can't wait. Oh and on here you have refs for mitre and station pubs, they're both shut and have been for ages. Not that we knaresborough folk who look on this site are used to up to date info!!! Crack on
The word is that Montey's is opening in town. I for one reckon that is the best news for Knaresborough, the montey's in Harrogate is the nuts.
Montey's is on it's way, this must be the first properly "new" bar in Knaresborough for about 1000 years!
If it's true that Montey's is on it's way to knaresborough then we have to be pleased, that place in Harrogate rocks and we don't have anything like it in Knaresborough, bring it on (if it isn't another shady rumor that is)
Been to Montey's Rock Cafe in Harrogate? The one with all the cocktails, shooters and great rock music? Well there's one opening in Knaresborough in February 2004
Carriages is the best - Nice building, no scum, good food, beer garden, top staff. Yorkshire Lass comes a close second.
The Crown, Station, Cross Keys: All full of scum called Kev or Darren.
Went to a few pubs, all fine. New So bar pretty good but probably wouldn't let teenage skateboarders in
Most are truly hideous, Little E; avoid it's full of charvers and has a DJ playing the usual chart nightmares, Harts Horns; better than most but has the most bone idle Landlord ever he'll only serve young good looking girls & as they're scare in K'Boro thats not very often. Royal Oak; full of gypsys on the karoake stage.
Knaresborough has over 15 pubs. If u r FRESH FACED I recommend the Station and The Crown!
The station pub is knaresboroughs youth club.
What to say? there's about 22 now, but try the crown, little elephant, market tavern, cross keys, blind jack's and the Mitre (most others are for the locals only, that is, if you don't like strange looks!)
Best place in knaresborough, without a doubt, the Borough Bailiff.
Also, The Groves, Blind Jack's, The Station and the Old Royal Oak.
The Harts Horns is much better since its refurbishment
The Tiger Inn, Coneythorpe, few miles NW of Knaresborough. Good location, good beer and excellent food. Well worth a visit.
The best pub has always been The Crown on the High Street, even after the re-vamp it's still pretty nice. If you want something a little more up-beat, The Little Elephant is good for last orders.
Just has to be Blind Jacks. Not for everyone though as they don't have, in their words, any music, no food and nothing kitch at al - just absolutely great beer and well worth the trip. It's next to Beer-Ritz which has over (I think as I haven't tried all of them!)400 beers including Old Fart and The Dog's bollocks - go and ask for Amis - she'll tell you all about them
Blind Jack's in the Market Place for lots of real ales.
Little Elephant (Bus Station). Crown (High Street). The Mitre (Train Station) are all quite lively.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
The best tea rooms in town is The Loft in Green Dragon Yard.
CJs for scrubbers DONT GO THERE! and many other little places. No where really stands out as good.
CJ's is the coffee shop next to woolworths which is where all the youths of knaresborough go in to sit on cold or rainy days (that is if they're not banned). Its also open on thursday nights between 7:30 and 9:30 for 14 to 20 year olds. Where everyone just goes in and sits and talk and smokes loads.
