The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

  • Doesn't have a bank and the only cash machine is in the co-op, so you can't get any money for those last orders!
  • Earby is forever yorkshire. It is the borders that need moved back to their default settings.
  • Harold Duxbury siiting atop of the Con Club proclaimeing his disgust that nobody saw fit to fly the English flag on St. Georges' day yet we mark every other patron Saints day. He was quite right!
  • Earby hot camping spots The island...many wacked evenings spent here.8 and a half hours discussing the merits of green top milk.(never trust a farmer)
  • I grew up in Earby and loved it. Of course when I was younger I didn't admit that but now I live in a large town/city with a very hectic lifestyle and am nowhere near the countryside. Its made me realise how much I miss it. If I could find a plae like Earby was 10-15 years ago I would chose that place to bring a family up. I'm glad my family are still there. I just wish that it could have stayed as it was. Oh and by the way it is definitely in YORKSHIRE. and if you don't agree with that then move to colne!!!
  • Brilliant town..needs a skatepark though
  • I pent three weeks there one afternoon back in 92. I thought Blubberhouses was where all the fat slags lived.
  • if you're driving around looking for earby, but can't seem to find it, there's two possible solutions: 1. stop blinking. 2. follow the black clouds...
  • Earby is a small village, where every one knows everyones buisness.Nobody ever gets about and everyone is related.
  • Earby is the place to be for centralised travel we are but a mere hour away from the cities of Manchester Leeds and Bradford also the heart of the Dales and the lakes very close to Skipton and the best caving and climbing area's of the north west
  • The beautifulness of earby and dits residents. lot better than living in colne that was a nightmare.
  • I recently read that this site was crap "no its not however some guy with the mental dexterity of an hollow chocolate frog chose to State that Earby was crap thus lowering the fine reputation of this web site Firstly Yes we are in the Historic West Riding Of Yorkshire. And no while we are officially in Lancashire that would give some credence to his last statement we are in spirit Yorkshire. The people are reserved when compared to others in the north but that because being on the border of such a war torn area we never truly know who to trust. One miniute we were the white rose next the red and the back to the white under sufference from the powers that be in Nelson Town Hall. the last author was right in saying its a great place to grow up and for all the reasons he stated summers were great winters were cold but is that not the same anywhere in the north. Earby has lots to offer and wonderfull people to meet. I wonder about the eyesight of the person that claims David O'neils body shop is the best building in Earby while it is a excerlent body shop its by no means the best building most of us in our 40s and 50s will remember John Moon but has we have grow mature we realise that our childish and imature perceptions of this man were just that unfortunatly the person classing him as entertaning still envisages him in batman gear on his roof wake up mate and smell the coffee. We have a brilliant Museum in the old grammer school set up by founder members of the Earby Potholing Club the most respected potholing club in the country if not the continent. We have beutifull senery clean beck although not as deep as when we chased bullheads, yes we have award winning author but also very good local ones in the form of Mr Wormwell and Mr Marshall, Slack Alice and John Tattersall are best known for there Earby and Barnoldswick links, many local artist adorn our history as well as polictical figure such as Katherine Bruce Glasier. Our parks are well maintained even by the lancastrial administration. It is the duty of all who live in Earby to put right the information while we may not be a bustling metropotis like Colne Nelson or Barnoldwick on a friday night we are and always have been a place of quiet tranquility where peacefull waters flow. Come and visit I understand that the White Lion as recently changed hands and that the landlord may be of a better character and more customer freindly that whatsisname but the beer is good how can you nack up Tetleys. Welcome to Earby Home of the honest northerner whos gift to stragers is a smile and a genuine intrest in all folks from this fair isle.
  • There is a newsagents next door to Jade Palace, the guy in there is Andrew Foster, buy all your newspapers from him he is great. Danny Pentecost is the primary school headteacher or was when I was there he is a fool.
  • okay so there are not a lot of shops mentioned. but a few paper shops a chemist a bookies and an electrical outlet. a couple of hairdressers and an insurance place. hardwere and a few others.. what more do you want.
  • Let's get this absolutely straight, Earby IS IN THE WEST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE.
  • The best thing about Earby is that it was a great place to grow up in. Nestled in the valley below the moors, we were able to explore the moors, streams and farmland to our heart's content. Another great thing about Earby is that I'm from there. The worst is that when I was born, it was in Yorkshire - in the West Riding - but now has been moved into Lancashire. It's not changed much in the past 50 years, but I still go back every time I'm in the UK to check up on it.
  • I grew up in Earby and the best thing there was a rope swing across the beck at the bottom of Long Green (and the beck was good for chasing after bull-heads). And that's it. The worst thing was the choking, bone-creakingly damp cotton mill town air. All in all it's a very wet place (literally and figuratively speaking).
  • I hate to admit it but I am actually from Earby, in Lancashire and I would like to enlighten you about a few facts as you don't seem to have much information about it. I can tell you that it has no record, games or skateboarding shops, not to mention comic shops. Not only this but I am afraid to tell you that it has no clubs either or music venues. In fact it only has five, yes, that's right, five pubs. Overall Earby is a bit of a quite place (and that's an understatement).
  • Earby is a dump and it's in Lancashire so it's bound to be crap.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Earby.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
