Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
jacks rocks man!!!!! um not chicken shed i think it shall be renamed
yeah the stag of ross...a really bad place with a fat pin shirted landlord!! inbred
I love the Charlie and it's the place to be every Friday and Saturday night. I am a regular visitor there and so are many other people so everyone knows everyone!!! The music is really good (can be cheesy) but who doesn't like the odd bit of cheese evry now and then?
Jacques is a poor excuse for a club. Stupidly expensive for a pint and it smells. Worst of all....its DANTER territory. However the music and 99.9% of people who go there are quality. Larrapurz disco is good for under 16's and midgets. My mate who's 5 ft still goes there and he's 21. Hope is the best by far for live music
DONT GO TO JACQUIES!!!!!!
jacks b4 10:30 is free.On a friday jacks is full of russans. If you want to pull a woman without a double chin go somewhere else. The bouncers make me laugh. the charlie is ok. pan pizza is a place to go for food after but watch out you might get beat up, usally be 6 18 year olds. you might be lucky and get a lift home from monty.
I had heard the stories, read the reviews and seen the photos but nothing prepared me for the real thing, Jaq's the premier night spot of the South West maybe even the world. Expensive drinks, Sticky floors, Random Eastern Europeans, Gothic cages, Crap Music. a strange burning sensation when i piss and your mate slumped in the gutter outside, what more could you want!
Jacks - When you see the word dive in the dictionary, there is a picture of Jacks next to it
yeah jax! yeah true is a dump but at least its some where to go and get p*ssed
The charlie claims not to let underage drinkers in, but how come i get away with it :~P
There's a few in Hereford.
I would just like to say that since the king charles (charlie) was taken over a few years ago it has improved dramatically, nice to see the place is clean and funky. They also have some great d.j's over the weekend to dance and drink copious amounts of alcohol to. prices have gone up but at least its cheaper than jac's and you only have to pay a couple of quid to get in or just get in there before 10.
anyway thats enough of my ramblings but i just wanted to say that it is a cracking place to go out and Andy has done a great job sorting the place out.
CHEERS
Jacques night clubs dress code: Clown pendant and burberry cap.
Discount if you're called Sharon or Tracey. D Brace *shudder*
Jacquelines night spot! and some patrons there do have an uncanny resembalence to the GCSE students that always appear in the paper!
The Charlie-look at the diffrence between the clientel that arrive before 8 and the bouncers, and after!
I only went to shats, sorry jacqs!once, It was crap. but if there is no where else to go in Ross then of course they will take the piss! and take your money. I remember NO trainers, what the hell?? It's not bloody stringfellows! oh yeah I was only in there for an hour and threw up in ashtray, the 'bouncer' thought he was arnie, silly minger! Take my advice stay in and get pissed.
Contrary to popular opinion expressed on here, Jacs isn't THAT bad. Just a little bit bad if you're used to big cities. OK so the drinks are overpriced and they force you to hang up your coat for a pound. And if you're not wearing a coat you will be made to hang up your jumper and pay a pound or face being barred. And its hard to communicate with most of the summer patrons unless you speak a range of east European languages. And if 'Oops Upside Your Head's ever played and you do that wierd dance, you remain temporarily stuck to the floor. But on the whole they do play good fun music and let you have a good time. OK so it could be better, but the chances of Jacqueline selling it to someone who actually knows about music are slim. Very slim!
Check out the new king charles or the charlie now called charlies bar. They have got rid of the kids and put a wicked sound and light system in. Its better than jacks dump. Saturday night are good if you dont want kids ariund your feet though friday is still the same banging music not my taste but good fun though.
Jacques, but it is shit, you'll get ass raped and then they'll charge you for it!
Jaquelines Nite spot has to be one of the shittest excuses for a club in the whole of England.
Jacques is a stinking chav pit filled with the cream of the mentally and socially retarded in Ross!
Everyone seems 2 dis Jacqulines nite spot but if its so bad then y duz nearly everyone from ross go in there? fair enough its not great but its sumwhere 2 go 4 a late nite drink with your mates!
well what can i sat jaques is good but! they play the same music in the same order every day and its annoying, the drinks are overly priced considering i work in a pub a vodka and coke in the charlie is £1.60 and in Jaques its £2.40
Jaquelines nite spot, what a classy establishment, here on a Friday and saturday night, one can sit back and enjoy the tranquil stream of Belgian techno jungle house music, sip on an apperatif and smile as dusky maidens of the night seduce you with their hipnotic rhytmmic swaying, calling to lost sailors as they try to find their way to the exit.
Yes its true, Jaques has to be the best nite spot in the country, however it is slightly less wonderful now the local character Ken Wood (often living it up at karaoke on a thursday and ocasionally making it to the stag and the plough as a member of the local topless darts league) has been enticed away by the bright, but far more bnoring lights of our country's capital. but never fear, Jaquelline herself is on hand to brighten up your evening!
JACQUES OR JAQULEINE'S NITE SPOT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A SUPER CLUB. BE GAURANTEED A NITE DANCING TO CLASSICS SUCH AS 'ACHY BREAKY HEART' AND 'RYTHM IS A DANCER'.
THURSDAY NITE IS NOT TO BE MISSED AS ALL ROSS' HOT STUFF ARE OUT (INCLDING JLH, DEV, MIKE
CAULFIELD AND MATTHEW TEAGUE)SHAKING THEIR BOOTIES TO THE KARAOKE BEAT. ONCE YOU'VE BEEN, YOU'LL NEVER LEAVE(YOUR HOUSE AGAIN).
Too right Jacquelines is an absolute hovel... Cost me 3 quid to get in and it smelt of shit, the male to female ratio is at best 15:1, and there were a few I wasn't sure about.
There's a wonderful Night Club (A real Dive !!) called "Jaquelins" probably spelt wrong... Who cares... don't visit it anyway... .unless you're a collector of bruises.
Live Music Venues
hope
A good local place for bands to play at especially in the summer is the band stand by the river. It's a great place to hang out with your mates and the Riverside pub is literally 30 secs away so you can nip in for a pint and still hear the music!!!
The Hope and Anchor have quality bands now and again
The international festival is (at time of typing 2005) no more, the nasty rain that devastated boscastle carrie don going after that dreadful afternoon in cornwall, it carried on across wales to ross on wye and stayed there all week, as a result of the ba dweather , hardly anyone went to the festival, the ground got wet , then it got muddy, and basicly nobody wanted to come out and get wet and muddy that week, so the event did'nt make any money and the organisers went into liquidation (no pun intended).
Maybe in the future it will return but ubfortunately only the 'unintentional 'fetsival will be going ahead, shame but such is life.
At JKHS sum 6th formers hae a band and have gigs in the main hall :)
THE CHARLIE IS STARTING LIVE BANDS AGAIN WHICH IS A GOOD THING
check out the "Charlie" most friday nights with Live music by "Chill2thrill", "Sijen" and "BigMouthBass" check em out they're all great well they are my friends but they r all good.
Also check out Connally's every Thursday open mike music only jam with the "River Guypsies" this Sun @ the Rosswyn
some live bands appear in pubs around.
One or two pubs sometimes have live music, the rosswyn, the crown and septre and the irish pub o'donnely's or whatever its called. There are a few local bands and musicians who you might catch if your travelling through.
Well somone in Ross is finally doing somthing cool and hip !!! We had 'The Divine Comidy' play here in the summer, in the Ross-on-Wye International festival.COOL! That had to be the one and only time it felt cool to be a Rossite !
Cinemas
there used to be da roxy cinema in ross but dats gone now and da maltings is there instead. now u have 2 go 2 coleford hereford gloucester or monmouth.
cinema in Ross on wye ..about 30 years ago ,nearest cinema monmouth, cinderford, gloucester or hereford (thank heavens for cars and buses)
BULLDOZE SOMERFIELD and give us our old cine
Cinema??? you are having a laugh arent you.
any building big enough to be a cinema has either been demolished or it would have been converted into flats, with all the fields in the area maybe a drive in cinema would work.
get real! the nearest is hereford or coleford, both crap, or gloucester.
Two cinemas, the Roxy and the Kyrle have both shut, nearest Multiplex is Gloucester but a characterful old Savoy is up the dual carriageway in Monmouth.
there aren't any. there used to be one thoughm however it was not the fault of somerfield but the infomax centre that replaced it.
There was one but they got rid of it and put a supermarket there, thanks somerfield, you changed my life.
have to go to Coleford or Hereford - miles away and still not much cop...
