Favourite Building

  • pool club otherwise known as the mighty 8
  • Market Hall Also Ross Baptist Church not much to look at from the outside but great inside!
  • St Marys Church well i am in the church choir,
  • John kyrle high school art block, and they're gonna knock it down!! typical
  • well theres a few obvious ones that stand out,the market house of course,st mary's church,my friend rachels got a cool house. ross is a pretty small town so if you visit, you wont need me to tell you what the best buildings are,you can see them all for yourself in about half an hour.
  • Jaquellines hot nite spot
  • TUDORVILLE BOXING CLUB.

Demolish It Now Building

  • John Kyrle High School, The market place, Riverview flats
  • Danter's scrapyard at the bottom of town, along with Danter's nightclub. How ironic that Jacquie Danter still seems to get away with having such a mess in such a pretty place-couldn't be anything to do with still being on the council could it?
  • my house, that ugly pinkishy colour building in front of the gazebo tower, River view flats
  • the rest of the school, [the art block is a separate... blcok i suppose] but the rest of the school is pants.
  • I think they should get rid of somerfield and put the cinema back, also jaquelines nite spot either needs to change hands or needs to be flattened, they were gonna flatten it and put tesco's there!and that was the at the time mayoress jaqueline herself,no she wasnt gonna flatten it herself she was gonna sell her nite spot to the flatteners and reap the benefits, the benefits of having a tesco at the bottom of broad street in a town that has recently narrowed the roads and made everything one way! sometimes i despair (can you tell?)
  • John Kyrle High School (the worst years of my life!)
  • JAQUES
  • Jackie Danters so called 'night club'!!

The Best Things

  • John Kyrle High School Riverside views from the Prospect Everyone knows everyone! Childrens holiday club every summer at Baptist Church Fantastic!
  • Walks by the river, Goodrich castle, reasonable access to other places.
  • Ross International Festival-a great place to see big acts like Feeder, Van Morrison and The Divine Comedy up close!
  • One of the best things in Ross, is the car boot at the cattle market, its on every sunday, you can pick up some really cheap , decent clothes that cost you pounds in the shops, you can get a decent outfit for less than a fiver. Books video's, records c.d.'s, if you aint to fussy about second hand stuff.
  • the hip cat teenagers like myself.
  • the best things about living in ross are as follows, its quiet but not dead, theres enough life here to keep a young person afloat for a while, its fairly safe, there are some friendly people around and its a lovely little town visually (as long as they don't build anymore supermarkets),if it was a sattelite town to somewhere a bit bigger and it still had the same amount of people,it would be an ideal base.Unfortunately i dont drive so its not ideal, but thats by the by.
  • Local rag "The Ross Gazette" is a hot read, take this weeks headline "cat in falling off pavement shocker!"
  • THE FIGHTS AND ALL THE SEXY MEN. ALSO HAIR BY LORRAINE AND MING THE DOG.
  • The Swimming Pool
  • Skatepark Burgers from chip shops
  • The road out, I think!

The Worst Things

  • its a quiet town, sometimes it can be lively but not very often. it depends how many people u know!
  • A town full of zombies . No-one smiles or talks to each other in the streets. Walk into safeway and you can almost hear a pin drop.
  • Infighting among local politicians
  • Trying to buy fresh food in the town- Safeway seem especially bad at this, the parochial nature of the people- if you've not lived in the place for at least 10 years don't expect anybody to talk to you-& if you are Welsh you will NEVER fit in here. The Town Council who, when they're not bickering & accusing one another of stealing the Christmas lights & Mayors robes do daft things like commisioning Walenty Pytel's monstrosities "flying ducks" & stick them by the river- so it can also look like Danter's scrapyard?
  • The traffic system, if you aint been to Ross before , or even if you have, it has changed so much in the last five years, that even the locals get lost sometimes.
  • pretty much the whole place, the whole town has gone down the tubes, since the one way system and lots of other bugger ups on the council's behalf. previously peacful residential roads are now frequently driven through by traffic. and it's known to have one of the highest heroin problems in herefordshire.
  • if you're a tourist and staying here for a few days or so,theres nothing bad i can really say about the town, just hope some wee drunkard doesnt mug you.as someone who's lived here all my life i'll say ross is a bit of a gold fish bowl which is hard to get out of,its comfortable but there isnt much life here, theres definitely a few steps up the human emotion ladder in terms of excitement to be found elsewhere.why dont i move?i'm working on it!
  • THE FACT THAT EVERYONE THINKS THAT THEY'RE ACE WHO LIVES THERE. THEY THINK THEY'RE THE FUCKING LORDS OF THE LOCAL PUB CIRCUIT WHEN ROSS IS JUST A SHIT HOLE OF A RURAL MARKET TOWN - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
  • To many old people, it's a friggin' old peoples home here!!! Anyone from outside the area thinking you're Welsh....NO WE'RE BLOODY NOT!!! Farmers......need I say more!?!
  • The one way system !

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about ruislip. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in ruislip.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
