Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • discos, there was one call the copper tree, and that was a bit of a night out going there, we went to craven collague and we always went there when we were having a night out or special event.
  • I cannot personally comment on the interior of the Bliss nightclub as I have never been there as I have dignity, but the exterior is almost always populated by semi-clad, working class pieces of chicken and rednecks who will quite happily walk into the middle of the road into the path of oncoming traffic as if they are sleepwalking! (01/05/2003)
  • The After Dark- wot a shit hole!! Only ever go in when tanked up to the eyeballs-even then i cringe.
  • There is the LMS club in Skipton down by the station, known lovingly by taxi drivers as ell-of-a-mess. That's where the C & W music is to be found if that's what you want
  • Friday nights in Bliss (aka After Shafter, After Death etc) - some local radio johnny from Fresh AM who is well up himself. Dunno who he thinks he is - his level is way below most of the scum that go in there. One to avoid for sure. Mind you, it's not like there's any other clubs on offer really....
  • ... And after you'd been to the Dark it had to be curry and chips at Fryer's death van ! - now gone legit opposite Sam Houstons !
  • Clubs suck, all the townies usually hang around at bliss; it should be knocked down
  • Bliss - do NOT go there!! there was some rumour about under 18's get in half-price - but i'm sure that's just a hideous rumour
  • the bliss quality place to get a bird but watch out for the bouncers they dont give a fuck about anything
  • I remember "Bliss" as it was : After Dark ("The Death") or aka After Birth, After Death...whatever, all I can say is that i've seen worse in Worksop!!
  • The After Death or Bliss is really a shit hole. Don't bother to visit it, it's not worth it :) !
  • No After Dark (Bliss) NEVER allows underage patrons... hmm I dont ever rememember going in there when I was OVER 18 anyway. Not that I want to remember... I used to get dragged there by my mates and I HATED the place and its gangsta organised style. Its that small town trailer trash kinda hangout...
  • After Dark in name change shocker - it's true, the AD is now known as Bliss, can't think why it's still shit but at least it isn't run by gangsters anymore.
  • After Dark is no good if you are a pitiful pseudo trendsetter, if you are a regular bloke there is a bit of skirt on view and it can be a good laugh downstairs.
  • Wouldn't that be Shaft-a-Tart?
  • After Dark? AFTER DEATH more like
  • Hmm, the After Dark. Crap.
  • Just the one, the AFTER DARK, which is OK for a couple of quid. Opposite the Bus Station.

Live Music Venues

  • Get down to the Punch Bowl in earby near skipton. Saturday nights hosts various DJ acts, covering a wide range of Dance music for all tastes. Plus, the price of drinks at the bar is lower than your average venue. The place normally stays open late, so even though it's a pub, you'll not be getting kicked out @ 11pm
  • The Hall Brothers once played in The Craven - very good night.
  • Again, try the Y Bar on Cavendish street, ya never know.....

Cinemas

  • The plaza, what a shithole. becareful where you sit you proberly would get chewing gum stuck to your arse from the grotty seats
  • Put it this way I would rather see the worst film ever made at an Odeon cinema, than the best film ever made at the plaza. The theatre is usually filled with bored kids making sh@gging noises and throwing smarties at other patrons! (01/05/2003)
  • The plaza- u know how cinemas are sometimes affectionately known as the local fleapit, unfortunatly for us, this description is SCARILY accurate.......it mings!
  • Sit at home, spill drinks on the floor, add that oh so tasteful smell of rotting popcorn, leave to fester for a few weeks-et voila, who needs the skipton plaza!!
  • The plaza, I dont often go, too many townies
  • the plaza - it's more of a youth club actually ~ urgh, try not to go there either
  • Going to the cinema in Skipton is like stepping back in time. It's a world away from the expensive multiplexes that have almost monopolised cinema with their extortionate prices and ear splitting surround sound. Instead, Skiptons' cosy little cinema offers good old fashioned value with a hint of nostalgia.
  • Should have kept the old Regal Cinema open (where Bliss is now)- it was far better than the Plaza. I remember watching Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi double bill in Regal 2, circa 1984! It's worth driving 10 miles to Keighley nowadays where the popcorn is miles better!
  • hmm, theres the plaza, with its entire screen! bit of a shed, ur better off goin 2 burnley. however if ya cant afford to give up the day the plaza'll do for an evening out. good kebab shop and just round the corner from bliss, should ur night need starting point...
  • Two words.... 1. shite 2. shite !!!!!
  • Ugggh Plaza !! Manky seats like you'd get in a porn cinema (I'm guessing) and they always used to let Ozzy (local madman) in for free to keep him from roaming the streets. The Regal was much better but of course that became the After Death, I mean Dark....
  • The Plaza is the kind of place where a fat woman in a threadbare cardigan (usherette) tells everyone to shut up half way through the film. Average attendance is around 12 punters.
  • There's TVs bigger than this in the Skipton branch of Dixons
  • The PLAZA, on Sackville Street. Other places of entertainment are the Snooker Hall, but that's about your lot.
  • The cinema is alright, it just shows rubbish films.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Skipton. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Skipton.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
