Record Shops
MIX MUSIC has closed down, due no doubt to the fact that everyone downloads music from that internet thingy, and that's free kids, YEAH!
mix music
Mix music is my regular, stocks a good selection of alternative music
Mix Music - although I've heard they're more expensive than other places like Woolies - I think they have the widest range
Got to be Mix Music on Newmarket Street - I remember buying some classic Depeche Mode and New Order 12"'s there
Bit of a hobsons choice here- gotta be Mix Music on Newmarket Street
Mix music, small and cosy, unfortunately full of the usual crap but if ya wanna get hold of summat they'll get it 4ya (if u can afford the 5 quid deposit)
Mix Music, I remember when that opened: it was THE trendiest place. The geordie guy who worked there (owned it ?) was a nice bloke as was his sister who was the HR manager at Morrisons.
Mix Music makes a fine effort. Also in Keighley(check the Knowhere guide)
It's called MIX MUSIC, and it's opposite Superdrug, just off the High Street. John Phillips on Newmarket Street for the more older music.
Mix Music is the best - on Newmarket Street. The people in there are all friendly and they've always got cool stuff in like limited edition vinyls and stuff.
There is one, I think it's Dave's sommat or other, across the road from Woolworths.
Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
discos, there was one call the copper tree, and that was a bit of a night out going there, we went to craven collague and we always went there when we were having a night out or special event.
I cannot personally comment on the interior of the Bliss nightclub as I have never been there as I have dignity, but the exterior is almost always populated by semi-clad, working class pieces of chicken and rednecks who will quite happily walk into the middle of the road into the path of oncoming traffic as if they are sleepwalking! The After Dark- wot a shit hole!! Only ever go in when tanked up to the eyeballs-even then i cringe.
There is the LMS club in Skipton down by the station, known lovingly by taxi drivers as ell-of-a-mess. That's where the C & W music is to be found if that's what you want
Friday nights in Bliss (aka After Shafter, After Death etc) - some local radio johnny from Fresh AM who is well up himself. Dunno who he thinks he is - his level is way below most of the scum that go in there. One to avoid for sure. Mind you, it's not like there's any other clubs on offer really....
... And after you'd been to the Dark it had to be curry and chips at Fryer's death van ! - now gone legit opposite Sam Houstons !
Clubs suck, all the townies usually hang around at bliss; it should be knocked down
Bliss - do NOT go there!! there was some rumour about under 18's get in half-price - but i'm sure that's just a hideous rumour
the bliss quality place to get a bird but watch out for the bouncers they dont give a fuck about anything
I remember "Bliss" as it was : After Dark ("The Death") or aka After Birth, After Death...whatever, all I can say is that i've seen worse in Worksop!!
The After Death or Bliss is really a shit hole. Don't bother to visit it, it's not worth it :) !
No After Dark (Bliss) NEVER allows underage patrons... hmm I dont ever rememember going in there when I was OVER 18 anyway. Not that I want to remember... I used to get dragged there by my mates and I HATED the place and its gangsta organised style. Its that small town trailer trash kinda hangout...
After Dark in name change shocker - it's true, the AD is now known as Bliss, can't think why it's still shit but at least it isn't run by gangsters anymore.
After Dark is no good if you are a pitiful pseudo trendsetter, if you are a regular bloke there is a bit of skirt on view and it can be a good laugh downstairs.
Wouldn't that be Shaft-a-Tart?
After Dark?
AFTER DEATH more like
Hmm, the After Dark. Crap.
Just the one, the AFTER DARK, which is OK for a couple of quid. Opposite the Bus Station.
Live Music Venues
Get down to the Punch Bowl in earby near skipton. Saturday nights hosts various DJ acts, covering a wide range of Dance music for all tastes. Plus, the price of drinks at the bar is lower than your average venue. The place normally stays open late, so even though it's a pub, you'll not be getting kicked out @ 11pm
The Hall Brothers once played in The Craven - very good night.
Again, try the Y Bar on Cavendish street, ya never know.....
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Skipton.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Skipton.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
