The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

  • Following the success of BBC Wales’‘The Grand Slam Quiz’, Jonathan Davies - ex-international rugby legend, commentator and host of his own chat show 'Jonathan'; and Amanda Protheroe Thomas - premier sports presenter and host of the property show 'Hot Houses', will be hosting ‘The Quiz Of The Year’. This will be an exciting, jampacked, informative and occasionaly hilarious event. The format will be loosely based on BBC’s ‘Test the Nation’, with some elements of ‘Have I got News for You’ thrown in! There will be rounds on many different topics - news, politics, sport and entertainment, as well as lighter rounds such as ‘what happens next...’ and ‘Embarrassing Moments’ etc. There will be four studio teams - politicians, sportspeople, entertainers and newsreaders/weatherpeople, competing as teams against each other. The audience won’t be getting off lightly though – they will be dissected into four teams, North, South, East and West, (or possibly North, West, Valleys & City Slickers) all playing along with keypads. Possible guests: Politicians: Lembit Opik, Rhodri Morgan, Jill Evans, David Davies Newsreaders/Weatherpeople: Sian Lloyd, Derek Brockway, Sarah Edwards, Jason Mohammed Sportspeople: Scott Gibbs, Robert Croft, Lee Trundle, Tanny Grey-Thompson Entertainers: GLC, Katherine Jenkins, Max Boyce, Rob Brydon The quiz is being filmed at the Pop Factory in Porth, Rhondda on December 19th from 6.30pm until about 9.30pm, and will be transmitted at prime-time on Boxing night. To book your place in the audience, contact Catrin on 01443 688527, or e-mail c.brooks@thepopfactory.com. Remember, there are only a limited number of spaces available!!

  • Rhonnda is so crap, most of the 'good' things are crap- exaggerated crap. BY THE WAY, MY NAME IS RHIAN ASTON RHIAN ASTON RHIAN ASTON- sue me ;)
  • Psycho Elliott ceased to exist years ago and were never very good anyway. The Prince is a shadow of its former self too.
  • The worst place to live in the rhondda has got to be Ystrad...I see Penrhys has been the victim of bullshit once again crime...drugs...vandalism..etc..etc. but when I was working in the community playschemes a few years ago we always dreaded going to Ystrad because the kids were so rude and crass, they would spit at you call you obscene names and generally be little swines, whereas at Penrhys they were always polite and really helpful and not one swearword was aimed at any of our staff.
  • David Barkus is the most famous sunbed queen stroke milkman in Gelli. Watch out ladies for some semi-skimmed at 2am. Codders is a bit class with his blue house in Pont-Rhondda, and Clarkey hates him.
  • sian tough - the BEST welsh teacher in the world!
  • But I love the place, its got um, yes well, something. its home!
  • i think that all the good looking men live in the rhondda everyone else outside it is hanging
  • WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE LEAVE OUR MOUNTAINS ALONE
  • penrhys
  • A star from Rhondda RIB (Rhydian Bowen) from MEGA (welsh boy band)
  • clydach
  • Ferndale boys Mike Nash, Mike Harvey and Bald head Neal (he wasn't until he hit the beer in Perth Australia) are all alive and doing well in their around the world trip. They weren't good enough to get a game of rugby over here but never mind they showed the aussies how to drink. They also brought over the valley weather, haven't had rain for months until they got here.Looking forward to seeing them when I come over in July this year. Alan Perth W.A.
  • Alan Curtis - 1980's International footballer
  • Famous for <UL><LI>Lord Tonypandy <LI>Mines <LI>Penrhys <LI>Tom Jones</UL>
  • Great Footy teams <UL><LI>Llwynipia Boys club <LI>A.F.C. Porth <LI>Ton Pentre Bull Dogs </UL>
  • You have Pehrhys as being famous, that should be "infamous". It's actually one of the roughest and most poorest places in the Rhondda, which is not real affluent to start with. I wouldn't leave my car there for even 10 minutes without a guard. For my money the friendliest people in Britain are from Cwmparc & Treorchy (about 10 minutes from Penrhys).
  • Ton-Pentre FC (The Bull Dogs) play in the League of Wales. In 1995 they were the first Welsh team to qualify for the European Inter-Toto Cup by finishing third in the League. They didn't get past the first round but they did appear live on Dutch TV against their representatives Herenveen, and had lots of press coverage.
  • Treorchy Zebras play in the Heinekan League First Division. They believe that by raising the profile of rugby in the Valleys they can improve the Rhondda's image. They work very closely with schools in the area.
  • The Rhondda Heritage Park is a top tourist attraction based on coal mining. It's got an Underground Experience, multi-media Exhibitions, an indoor Village Street, a themed play area, and art gallery and it's well worth a visit.
  • Music:<UL><LI>'Psycho Elliot' play good funk similar to Red Hot Chilli Peppers. They are based at the Prince of Wales pub in Treorchy. <LI>'Racing Cars' had a hit in the 1970's with "They shoot horses don't they?" They're still around doing gigs in the local clubs. <LI>'Thick as Thieves' are an up and coming band who play soul, The Jam, The Who and their own stuff. <LI>'Thich Quang Duc' were a young band who performed some good punk a few years ago but aren't around anymore.</UL>
  • I would just like to put forward a nomination for the Rhondda's most popular teenage hobby at the moment - arson - particularly shops and mountains. This is something that has become an integral part of the summer in the valleys, and the aroma of freshly burning mountainside will always remind me of my home...

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
