Favourite Building
Umm... Methvens, the bookshop. And that cool fountain thing with the names of the four rivers on it.
Salisbury Arms.
Barneys Grill
Maccy D's
THE place for us teens
Prince Regent - Used to be Canvas Holidays. Nothin' particularaly exciting about the arcitecture of Hertford - it's all old stuff.
The Castle
Demolish It Now Building
the multi-storey car park. It's hideous.
Gascoigne Way & the crap local gov't office on it
baroosh - oh my god mcmullens wot monster have u created?
Hertford Police Station
Multi-story car park off Gascoyne Way. Even worse on the inside than on the outside. Smells like urine and kebabs.
The Woollen Mill. Why can't it just go back to where it came from- Mars
The crappy club they call Zeros. (Well over due)
Stag house empty since it was built and a tribute to 80s excess Castle hall a boil on Hertfords bum
The Best Things
Castle hall, shops, saturday market is ok too. The museum is sweet, if you're around, say hi to the horned toad for me!
Quiet market town atmosphere.
One of the best things about Hertford (Though you could veiw it as having got
better - depends what your stance on that kind of thing is) used to be the
availability of soft drugs.
I dont mean cocaine or ecstasy, it used to be all to do wiht a bit of ganga and some acid.
These days however the yoof are into harder drugs, which has had a real
impact on the atmosphere of the town.
When i was younger, everyone would wonder about having a joint, or just chill
over the castle of an afternoon tripping. These days though, everyone charges
about off their heads on coke and looking moody.I think the old bill in
Hertford would be more effective and find they had less trouble at weekends if
they targeted hard drugs and allowed people a bit more leeway with cannabis.
I have NEVER seen anyone who was stoned go steaming across a packed bar to
confront someone over a spilled drink. BUT I have seen a stoned person lunge
acrss a packed bar to sip up the last of a spilled drink when asked though
- a very subtle difference, but an important one.
So, come on the old bill, let Hertford smoke weed.
sitting down by the barge on a summers day and the smell from the brewery on those special days....mmmmm those hops
The good kids and the skaters
The shows on at Castle Hall by Hertford's own Drama group- HDOS
Close to London.
Hartham Common.
Hertford has some great bands!! Don't miss Wyld Thyme if you're there. They made my vacation! . Love from Bubba, NY.
Knowing a sneaky little parking space on a Saturday afternoon. Market on Saturday. River and Castle.
It is easy to get to London from either of our two train stations, Hertford East and North. East is closer to the centre of town. Trains go to/from: Hertford North to Kings Cross/Finsbury Park and Hertford East to Liverpool Street.
Probably one of the best places to go on a pub crawl as the pubs are so close together.
Home of the McMullens brewery, has lots of pubs, and places for cheap eats.
The Worst Things
hartham swimming pool is dire. Hint; the baby pool is warm because the toddlers pee in it. They use tons of chlorine.
Too many Estate Agents, Hairdressers, twenty somethings at the weekends.
The dual carriageway -what a crap palce to build a road a 2 year old could have come up with a better plan grass seed it now
the smell of urine in the underpasses.
The horrible drunken yob kids who dont give a F*** about anyone.
The Balls park campus of the University of Hertfordshire has a pretty good business depatment and therefore foreign studends will pay anything to go there. Unfortunately it means that the town is packed with foreigners. Sounds Interesting? It isn't and the novelty value of trying to understand japanese conversations soon wears off.
That bloody fountain by Candies
The monstrosity that is the town centre fountain - target of washing-up liquid and stolen cars from miles around. Traffic in the rush hour. Too many Gippos. (and not enough sites where I don't have to see them everyday)
I think I mentioned them...
One way systems. Traffic in rush hours.
Hertford has quite the worst McDonalds in the entire known universe (shame, cos I love Big Macs).
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
