• Duncan Foster is from Mirfield,he's the guy who directed coronation street and won a BAFTA for the episode when Dev's shops got blown up.
• Yeah your father in law is correct to some extent, the dog Tramp who played alfred belonged to miss tenten who used to be deputy head at school when i was there don't know if she is still there though, go mfg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
• Trevor Cherry of Leeds United fame lived in Mirfield whist he ran a waste paper business!!
• Famous songwriter who lived on Blakehall is TIM WOODCOCK son of ex Mirfield Teacher MEL WOODCOCK otherwise known as.................
• Robin Hoods grave! Next to Three Nuns Pub
• My father-in-law (ex-Mirfield now resides in sunny North Queensland Australia) swears that Greengrass' dog from "Heartbeat" hails from Mirfield. I am dubious as to dear old Pop's sources...but he insists it is true...care to dispute??
• famous songwriter wrote songs for the gorgeous band BLUE lives on blake hall.... shame i cant remember his name though
• Patrick Stewert used to live here, untill he realised it sucked, so he left.
• Mrs Wharton of Mirfield Free Grammer has taught sex education for the last 30+ years and the population is still falling!
• Mr Woodcock formerley of Mirfield High survived despite his surname. Peter Cockfill famed for never having paid income tax
• Alan Fearnley lived at Old Bank. He is a very famous world class artist. He paints a lot of Ferraris. For example he has painted Schumacher, Scuderia Ferrari and the famous portrait of the late Enzo Ferrari. He attended Mirfield Grammar 1953 - 1958. He lives in West Yorkshire most of the year.

• Captin Pickard hails from Mirfield , the only other faumos person i know is my old work mate Mr David Smith from old bank,, he killed Annie's husband in emmerdale farm. (crane driver on the set).
• Patrick Stewart used to live in Park Bottom. Mmm.
• Patrick Stewart (star trek) and Debbie Linley (whining weather girl) were both born and raised in Mirfield
• Debbie Lindley - now presenter of Calender region weather reports - used to go to Mirfield High School. As did Patrick Stewart of Star Trek Fame!
• Robbie Paul* lives on Bracken Close (off Stocksbank Rd)*If you don't know who Robbie Paul is then shoot yourself
• The Star Trecker,Nick Foster had a claim to fame once or twice. The high school had a brief interlude on tele once performing the rhythm of life. Debbie Lindley of course

• The most famous "Black" Occultist of the modern age, Aleister Crowley has had some connection with the St Marys Parish Church - although exactly what escapes me for now.
• Other than Patrick Stewart there are no celebs
• Debbie Lindley (not so) world famous weather woman.
• The Jerks, Yorkshire's most successful punk band came from Mirfield. Their 'Get Your Woofin Dog Off Me' single charted in 1978.
• Patrick Stewart went to school here. Star Trek fans make regular pilgrimages.

Buskers, Street Entertainers

• There is a heavily tattooed bloke with loads of piercings who sometimes has suspect yellow goo dripping off his clothes. Does that count?
• Stand outside the Black Bull at closing time and you'll see some great Street Entertainment.
• The guy who has taken root selling the big issue at the top of the coop steps proves entertaining
• None in Mirifeld - Plenty of dodgy ones in dewsbury (under the supermarket tunnel)
• rossi is often found stripping on a street corner
• No street entertainers, no Big Issue salespeople, no shouts of "Socialist Worker". All we have is two big parrots which appear every year outside the library as Christmas decorations (??). Also - Mirfield shop keepers dress in Victorian clothes every year (to see if anyone notices).
