Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
koggys bar is a great night and good looking girls behind the bar. daz from preston
'lloyds' 'o'neills' 'undecided' 'squares'
Now that the whittle is gone.. well gone and demolished (Named after Sir Frank) the nearest clubs are in Rugby or Leicester..Cheaper taxi fare to rugby. The best new pub/club is Walkabout..also know as the Kangaroo Bar! Serves till 3am
The (now demolished) Whittle...
Not strictly a club, but fascinating none the less - If you attended Lutterworth Grammar betweeen the years of 97 and 2000 you will surely remember the spectacle which were 'Jetski Parties'. Held roughly every other Friday the Leics jetski centre they were a haven for long nights (as late as 11:30pm) fuelled by bottles of 20/20 and hooch. Events usually consisted of getting off with as many girls as you could (often made easier if they were the year below you) fighting and the odd trip in the ambulance after alcohol poisoning. It defies my belief that these are no longer organised for the kids at school nowadays.
BAR ELIXER NEXT TO PIZZA MAN IS PRETTY FUNKY NICE AN SMART IN SIDE A BIT SMALL BUT WITH ITS LIGHTS AND HARD HOUSE PUMPIN OUT AT GOD NO'S WHAT VOLUME ITS A GOOD PLACE FOR THE BEST BEER IN TOWNS AND HAS HAPPY HOUR NOT BAD FOR LUTTERWORTH. THE OLD SQUASH COURT BUILDING IS GONNA BE CONVERTED IN TO A CLUB SO I HEARD
2002 Update: Yep, the masonic local town council, are'nt shifting...after all as we're reminded Lutterworth is only a small picturesque market town, and does'nt need one of those noisy youth discothingymybubbs.....only the town, is about twice the size it was ten years ago!!1
taxi to leicester or hinckley is needed
the wyclif rooms now has a night club
LUTTERWORTH TOWN COUNCIL: RULE No 1.
WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY DRINKING IN THIS TIME AFTER 11PM, APART FROM THE DODGY MASONS WHICH WE ALL BELONG TO ANYWAY. SO FOR THE FINAL TIME, NO NIGHT CLUBS.....
nuff said.
The whittle used to be a classic on a saturday night when I was about 15yrs old
You must be joking, the nearest thing to a dance club was The Whittle where all the dinner ladies used to go on a Friday night.
Still no nightclubs whatsoever within Lutterworth,it seems the town
council are determined not to allow one at all.
Ever heard of THE SPUNK BROS, well they're from lutterworth, and they rock like bitches on a bigbeat tip.
The nearest thing to a club is Koggy's Bar
The Sir Frank Wittle has now been demolished and replaced by the local Peugeor garage
The Greyhound - All the clever Shambles drinkers have now discovered that this place has a late licence, get in before 10.30 on a Friday and you drink in comfort till two, then they close the bar to get rid of the crowds but if you stay in, it'll re open for the residents and anyone left. Just one question - why do people like Chris Carver keep nickin the pictures on the wall????
The Sir Frank Whittle - nearest thing to a club ie, a pub with a 1.30 am license on Fridays and Saturdays but with heavy door policy, ie really big blokes, laugh on a Friday if you're pissed.
Live Music Venues
the worth shoud have many but the old pricks on the council and the back of koggy' are misserable as fuck and wont have it
The Hind ~ you might have had to exsisted all week in Lutterworth ... a live band @ the W/end .... well u LiVeD
Denbeigh ..Lutterworth
The Hind (in the old days), Upstairs at Koggy's...
WHAT A SUPRISE STILL NO LATE NIGHT BOOGIEING FOR THE PATRONS OF LUTTERWORTH!! THE CLOSEST THING WE GET TO A CLUB AROUND HERE IS ELIXIR ( THE POKEY OLD PORKIES WINE BAR) OR TO THE YOUNG ONES THE SHOE BOX BUT IT DOES HAVE FLASING LIGHTS AND A BUBBLE MACHINE TO KEEP U OCUPIED TILL 11.30 AT LEAST
NOT TO GOOD THE WYCLIFE ROOMS EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS WITH R&B NIGHTS AND HARD HOUSE THE FOX HAS A COOL BAND THE NORMANS EVERY NOW AND THEN AND ELIXER HAS THE ODD THEME NIGHT
2002 Update: Still none, and it seems as though the hind will now be turned into flats and not a pub after all....another reason for kids to stare at the wonder of safeway late at night!!
For about two or three years running the town had a music day mini festival at the Fox and Football Club. For those who went like me, these were really good and varied. These should be re-done in the future. The one at the Fox was really good as the wonky beer garden gave it the feel of a proper event! It even came equipped with Adam Durnin, Gareth Franks and harpie hangers-on swinging their pants to a really good Blues act because they though they were looking hip by not liking a group of real musicians - remember folks - these people make the rest of us look like proper people.
LUTTERWORTH ISSHITE IN THISDEPARTMENT
my brother used to be the the big field (the band, ok, not a place...) since then he's had solo records, got married and had a lickle baby.... ah.
Well, a few gigs in pubs now and again (Koggy's and OCCASSIONALLY The Shambles or The Fox), and the Wycliffe Rooms (formerly the Masonic Hall) have occasional parties and gigs and stuff... but not in a big way.
The Hind.
UP TILL A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO ONE OF THE BEST WATERING HOLES THIS ONE HORSE HICK TOWN HAS EVER SEEN WAS THE HIND PART OF WHICH WAS SOLELY DEDICATED TO LIVE BANDS AND THE ODD DJ OR TWO BRILLIANT IDEA.SOMEONE COMES ALONG SAY THIS ERE IS A LISTED BUILDING AND NEEDS RESTORING ABSOLUTELY BLOODY CRIMINAL NOW IT WILL GET REFURBISHED AND IT WILL TURN INTO ONE OF THOSE FASHIONABLE LITTLE SHITE HOLES THE TOWNS SO CALLED ELITE WILL FREQUENT END OF ANOTHER ERA.SHAME
The Fox pub on the Rugby rd.Used to be the place to kick the crap out of the mods and hippy's,man.Old Jack the landlord, good old sort.Used to hold some really fab and groovy gigs there, and you could still get 3 plays on the jukebox for a bob(5p)up until 1979.
Grammar School often has musical events, that's if you like school bands.
Refurbishment of the Hind is now virtually complete and due to open any time soon, don't know if they'll be putting bands on again though.
No music venues since the closure of the Hind, Although the grammar school
has set up a couple of student band gigs. Summerhouse, The Nancy Reverb
and Without Chunk were fine bands though.
There was the Hind, but that closed down awhile ago now.
It was great when bands such as Summer house, the Nancy Reverb and the Big Field were still around!!
The Moorbands: Although out on the A5, it puts on Eric Clapton wannabies and Jimi Hendrix impersonators. Now owned by Cherry who used to run the Shambles, who remembers the shouts of 'ARE YOU EIGHTEEN?????'
The Hind: Despite the young customers, it used to put some local bands on - I remember the memorable days of Winter 92, to Summer 93 watching bands such as Without Chunk or Kettle Witch there. When they still do put bands on, it's only £ entry. NB:- Don't go and see any band with Gareth Franks as a member.
Cinemas
The only cinema we have is the 30in widescreen telly in Koggy's back garden and the rows of benches that surround it (don't sit at the front if it's been raining).
we were going to get a cinema, but no, what did we get a F*****g De Bradelei Discount Shop F*****g arsehole, F*****g bastards, oh fuck it im moving!!!!
about 5 miles to the neares the used to be a cinema in Lutterworth but it closed down in about 1960
None in lutterworth.. used to be at the Masonic Hall now formally known as the Wycliffe Rooms, possible named after John Wycliffe. Nearest on junction 1 near Rugby.Warks - new retail park.
The Masonic Hall ( now the wycliffe rooms) used to play some out of date films occasionally back in the eighties
2002 Update: Nice new one in Rugby, see below:
nearest one is rugby
No, the new one in Rugby is the nearest, and i'm told quite cheap. So you'll have to dodge the large numbers of teenage mums and spotty oiks with astras, oh and smack heads and go to Rugby to see those glitzy hollywood highlights.
Nearest one at Junction 1 retail & leisure opening early 2001!
BURNT DOWN YEARS AGO BOTH OF THE IAM TOLD
What is now the Masonic hall used to be the local flea pit, great stuff on a Saturday at the kids matinee,3d I think it was to sample the delights of Roy Rogers,Batman etc.
Nearest cinemas are the Showcase Multiscreen, upon the M6 in Coventry,
and the Newer Multiscreen Odeon at Freemens Common in Leicester.
