Food

Pinnochio's Italian restaurant
Indian - India Gardens and Jalsa in town, Spice of India at Hoyle Mill
Chinese - Jade Plaza in town
Dale fisheries in Worsborough Dale are the best fish n chips in barnsley (even the world). Always fresh and large portions too. Your also guarenteed a laugh in there with the banta between the staff n customers. So give it a you will soon be back for more. (oh give the home made fishcakes a try mmmmmm.

Kepp ya Macdonalds, Burger Kings and shit.. I luv a good old fashioned English Breakfast or a nice SUnday Roast... :)

McDonalds!!!
picos wombwell
Sun Mei Chinese takeaway in Mapplewell is the best takeaway EVER!!However far away you live its worth the journey! The China Court chinese restaurant is also really good! Mapplewell is the 'chinatown' of Barnsley!
MC'Donalds, Greggs...mmmmmmmmmmmm
You can't beat Butterfields or Yates for great value and delicious food! Particularly the baguettes!
Mcdonalds, sanchez... greggs!!!!
Gregg's. Need i say more?
THE PLAYOFF- The food is adequate, it’s nothing to write home about but if you have no friends and you fancy a chat with someone then the owners your man! He’s an eastern European looking fella and he enjoys nothing more than regaling his customers with stories of his eight-year-old son with the “kicking abilities of Beckham”. One last point, if do go in make sure you have at least half an hour to waste!
You're joking. The food is bad enough for flies to complain.
If you like your kebabs etc, there is a place called K2's. it is just rarnd corner from regents park. DO NOT GO THERE. I have heard some nasty rumours about that place. well saying that, when you have had a skinful and your belly could do wi sumat, it beats walkin to Wellington street.
maci d'z and K.F.C are top notch n u cant beat a bit of juicy chicken can u?!
McDonalds - top notch food! Sanchez well done your food is brilliant!!!
I heard a rumour recently that a restaurant in Barnsley had actually set out knives and forks on the tables. Bit optomistic, weren't they? All the Barnsley people with manners enough to use them left years ago.
McDonalds. Seriously, have you tasted the food at this place??
Dodworth Fish & Chip Shop is excellent
Golden City Chinese Take Away at Cundy Cross. Very Tasty, and lots of it.
Loads of good places to eat, Le croq is good for lunch.
The Talbot in Mapplewell is excellent, with a wine list that offers a decent choice.
MacDonalds and loads of chinese takeaways
New Road Chippie Staincross ...Not bad if you don,t mind waiting for ages while the stuff is fried. On entering the shop the first thing they ask is "whats yours mate " he then sets about frying it which takes ages.We thought the idea was fast food.
New Road chippy Staincross.
Maccy D's! Euan.
eating out was never that great when I lived there but I've been away 2 and a half years and every time I go back there's a new venue so there should be somewhere pretty decent by now! I know the firkin does well cheap student fodder.
Lots of greasy kebab take-aways.
Barnsley is the home of Albert Hirst's pork pies, something southerners can only wish they had.
Pinnochios Pizzeria, 15 New Street, Barnsley Excellent pizzas, pastas all the usual Italian stuff - check out the Pasta Mista!
Jalsa Indian Restaurant, 7 Pitt Street Brilliant Indian Food, but a bit expensive.
If you're feeling loaded and in need of truely excellent cuisine, go to Armstrongs on Dodworth Road. It's in the good food guide, and with good reason.
The major thing that is wrong with Barnsley is that it doesn't have any major places to eat Even Pizza Hut would do!
Mermaid chips.
Pubs

new landlord in making best of a good pub and organising family events. first one a family funday may 2nd 05 where I will be face painting to raise money for the royston park support events group.
The Royal Hotel at Barugh
THE BOOZE CRUISER - CRACKING COMPANY. NOT THE BEST CLUBS SO IF YOU WANT TO CARRY ON AFTER TIME THINGS CAN GO DOWNHILL FAST. FRIDAY, HALF 12 RANG AND GOT BEER DELIVERED CHILLED WITHIN HALF AN HOUR. THUMBS UP AND I WILL USE THEM A LOT MORE FROM NOW. SEEMS NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW OF THEM SO CALL 08000 811833 FOR BEER.
Everyone should go to the Ticket Office, not all at once though I've only got one pair of hands.
It's the best bar in town and has the best atmosphere. Please note that if you stand at the bar and shout your order at me chances are I you wont get served!
Panama Joes
The Arches
i love the wine bar (treadills) i could stay in there all nite if i ad a grand for my drinks
The best night out in Barnsley is Wednesday nights! The Assembly and Lacorum are fantastic pubs to spend your Wednesday night in, the music is really good and i always have a good night!
smelly gate the place 2 be on sunday night 4 lock in
The Theatre does kick ass on a night out with the ladies, cos the bouncers are great and so is the audience.... i mean men!
arches! gud crowd, usually regulars so a hard clique 2 break in 2!
panamoa joes is ok, has a american pool table which is confusing
sports bar is cheap with a gud pool table
royal oak wombwell soon to be renamed jimmy's
The local bouncers outside the Lancaster Bar, the Number 1 bar and the number 7 bar should be thrown into a cage and have banana thrown at them.
The bouncers at the LANCASTER BAR in Barnsley Town centre are racist thick butch
dingles, they cannot conduct themselfs in a public place, they shout racist remarks
about the colour of people skins, if they are different to their own, particulary
latin and oriental looking people. But who are these thicko low intelligent
bouncers to judge anybody, for christ sake they have to stand on a door looking
hard and being thick to earn money, what is the alternative for these, a job in
a warehouse?
The local pubs are very busy on a Friday and Saturday night, due to Barnsley
having a very high boozy culture, social life in this town revolves around the
local pubs. The majority of locals drink until they drop, so business for most
pubs in this town is good. The down side is that these pubs develop the
Barnsley culture atmosphere, where the people are loud and drunks. Unless you
are Barnsley born and bred, Barnsley is not a great place for non-locals,
Barnsley does not welcome non-Barnsley people, and are certainly not friendly
towards non-locals, the people remain within their clicks and groups, most grin
at all who will look at them, most even grin at each other.
The local pubs remind you of the animal cages at Blackpool Zoo.
Belfrys has a good selection of cocktails but drink up quick because the music is crap!! Icebar plays the best music but ther isnt many seats. Youll often see a 40 sumthing year old man dancing/stripping trying to re-live his youth (a good laugh!)
bodegas
Best pub to start your night in is The Assembly and at some point in the night you have to visit the Belfry Bar for a cocktail. The worst pubs are definately Bodegas and Maceys!
Chenelles. sit in corner were its dark wi ya bloke!!!!
Engineers in Higham is the best pub in Barnsley visit it only if u r not a dickhead this pub has the best landlord and landlady fuckin ever it int a dive n int full of skinhead wankers so for a nice place to visit get your arse down there
BUTTERFIELDS!
No where is good anymore. The least wank is Bodegas if u want a pub not a bar.
courthouse is a decent pub, along with chennels. they got rid of tommy wallocks, that wasnt a gud thing
courthouse near bus station, they sell cheap booze n its gud to go to before a match. chennels is decent n all
Style! Since when was barnsley known for stylish pubs and bars. The only reason they don't clean the puke off the carpets is because the carpets would disintegrate on cleaning.
They're all the same - crap, no class, and fill up at weekends with abusive, ill-mannered and uncultured slappers, and shaven skulls with single digit IQ's whose favourite occupations are drinking, smoking, making threats, fighting and more fighting, and think they deserve a medal if they get arrested. The pubs and girls in Wakefield and Leeds are 1,000 times better than around here.
Where do i start. I would have to say that if it is style you are after then the fashionable place to go is the la corum. it is round the back of buttys. It is very nice inside and has some really cool seats upstairs. Only down fall is that i think it is the dearest pub in tarn.
you cant beat a good vodka n coke from the prince of wales in hoyland common, but the lager and lime at the hare and hounds in hoyland common is even better
Hare & hounds on Hoyland Common is good, prince on common... sammies is good only cos it serves underage kids.
A hundred pubs, and all exactly the same - full of tossers with shaved heads all trying to out-drink their mates thinking it makes them look hard, and looking for fights with anyone who looks like they've got a brain. Awful, awful, awful pubs, full of awful, awful, awful people.
Union again. Cheap and cheerful, but only when compared to the Gates of Hell.
The Room is the best new pub in Barnsley.
Thez nowt like duin a sesh Fridy, Setdy or Sundy or all of em rarnd tarn. Cum hale or shine , places buzzin wi totty and footy mad lads. Top neet off wi a fish supper frum Welly Street,a Kebab frum K2 or for't lads wi a bit a cash, an Injun at India Gardens. Barnsley folk are honest and loyal.
The King's Head in Mapplewell offers a decent drink at a good price along with friendly staff.
Most pubs have drinks around £1/£1.50 so y' cant go wrong anywhere really, I do recoment Ice Bar, Browns, Durties, Firkin, Treedles, Tommys, Bodegas, Quasies, Beach, Sports Bar, Yatses..... Most of em are close togeather which in good n'all
Someone wrote here that there are so many pubs in Barnsley that there must be one to suit your taste whatever it might be.... WRONG! All the pubs are the same - I should know, I lived there for 24yrs. They now all play the same shite dance music crap at 200db, and are decorated with some pseudo-Victorian chipboard furniture, are part of a chain of identical bland pubs, or are another MFI nightmare with a pooltable. Where are the rock/alternative pubs? The Alabama Alligator was knocked down, The Manx has turned into an old biddie's pub, it's now all bland bland bland. And if you're one of the thousands to go and trawl round it all every Friday night to blow your week's wages because, well, that's just what you do in Barnsley, then your life must be pretty bland too.
The one redeeming feature about Barnsley is that it does have some decent pubs. Butterfields is nice, Court House is the place to go if you want a cheap beer and no music blasting in your lugholes.
Has to be TREDDLES WINE BAR (If you're visiting from outa town ask 'weers wine bar?' (If you aren't from Tarn then yudda probably put 'weers t'winebar - completely wrong!!!)
That is not entirely true, although I am not going to mention any particular Pub there is one or two that has served minors.
Try the- Draycotts. Firkin. Butterfields. Orchard. Maceys. Corner Pin. Mustangs. Sports Bar. Hedon Rock. sort of route. Tarn peaks on Wellington St.
For fun - Shakespear on Kareake night
For Totty - The Wine Bar (Chicks in short skirts dancing on the tables :)
The Manx was THE PLACE for all the wierdos and rockers in the late 80's. It was excellent. I went back there recently and I actually filled up with tears - all the nights we had, all the good times.... Now it's a crap old biddy's MFI-decorated craphole.
See clubs! Any building on Wellington street or even Panama Joe's. Dodworth and Monk Bretton have quieter pub networks. Euan
Far too many to mention, some good some bad but definitely worth checking out for yourself if you fancy a break from the old routine. A bit of a let down after 11pm but by then you should've had plenty to drink (60p a shot in Brownes, £3 something for a treble vodka red bull in Corner Pin) and not be too fussy. Admittedly not all the pubs will be your kind of place but (heres another dig at the people who like to slate Barnsley) this just goes to show that Barnsley caters well for it's diverse population and anyone who can't find a couple of pubs they like and enjoy a night out in Barnsley...........UNLUCKY!! Idoubt very much your presence will be missed.
J.D Weatherspoons... no deafening music and CHEAP bottles!
EXCELLENT DRINKING TOWN WITH LOADS OF PUBS ALL WITHIN 10 YARDS OF THE NEXT ONE,SOME VERY ATTRACTIVE YOUNG WOMEN(AND SOME NOT SO YOUNG)ALL IN ALL AN EXCELLENT TOWN FOR A GREAT NIGHT OUT.
P.S. THE DICKHEAD WHO WROTE THE ORIGINAL REPORT ABOUT BARNSLEY AND SLATED IT IS OBVIUOSLY NOT A TRUE BORN AND BRED BARNSLEY NATIVE,SO PLEASE DONT BELIEVE ALL THE NEGATIVE REPORTS THIS IDIOT HAS TO SAY.
Only pub in Barnsley town centre to get a good pint of Barnsley Bitter is 'Durty O Dwyers'. Yes it is yet another 'irish' pub but the ber is good. Give it a miss on match days thouth as it is full of away supporters.
More pubs than you can shake a stick at. Most are crap but some are OK. Check Draycotts in Shambles Street. and The Union Bar in Eastgate. Doing the full pub crawl can be quite a laugh, and if you get to end you won`t be able to stand up! Oh yeah, check out my mate Sean's Wednesday night in Quasimodo's (three of them Djing the better end of house.)
The newest pub - the Theatre is quite nice.
Cafes and Coffee Shops

picos wombwell. every monday 8oclock a meeting place for sad dads.A much needed support group. S.A.D.D. Sheffield and district dads in despair.
The locals here have never heard of Starbucks, Caffe Nero etc. You have to go to Leeds to find them, and they think Leeds is in a foreign country.
Masserellas in alambras wank i'd rather go to coffee republic in leeds.
BHS Coffee Shop was the place to hang out in your lunch breaks from college. Orb
