Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
tonic tonic tonic, well when it was open, if not the best place to end the night is walkabout, places to go before; browns, assembly, livinstones, treadles, FUNNYGALS and then tonic. be in funnygals for the camp dance at 12 its hillarious. try and get into the small bars too such as base and blah blah, but i know its almost(i said almost) impossible to do all of these so good look!
japanese whispers wen ah wur a nipper
Heaven and hell (Regents Park, Japanese Whispers) is undergoing a major refub and reopens on Wednesday July 12 2006 as CLUB TERMINAL. Three rooms, with sports Bar, Ice and Studio 54. Sounds good!
Heaven n Hell is ok. Its student night on a wednesday btw
banrnsley tarn center livinstones n that
Tonic is pretty cool - they have a web site at www.tonicclub.com
There is no decent Indie bar in Barnsley which the town is desperately crying out for, even an Indie night in an already established pub/bar would be great! Walkabout or Tonic are best places to end a night as they're clean with nice toilets and the bouncers don't stand for any rubbish, Livingstones is ok too but perhaps for the older end of the market. Don't go to Heaven and Hell or Hedonism, they're past their time and need closing, esp H&H it's dirty and full of all the people that give Barnsley a bad name, we're not all like them you know!
Walkabout is definately the placce to be on a wed/fri/sat night!
New club Tonic seems pretty good
People must go and check out the Soviet Bar on wellington street, its my brothers bar and its real funky, great music and very cool. Im writing this from New Zealand and I know that if I was in Barnsley The soviet bar is where I would be heading on the weekends. Go see for yourself.
The Citrus Rooms has recently had two special Saturday nights with DJ's from London performing R & B, Hip Hop & Funky Grooves. Wasn't my fav prior but really enjoyed both nights. This music is addictive. There are more nights planned for the future.

Ya want 2 get yaselves 2 Evolution in Leeds. Kirkstall its brill!
Heaven and Hell but you're likeley to get stabbed. I suspect that not many patrons remember it as Regents Park
Ok guys, I've been living abroad for 5 years and I'm coming 'home' for xmas. Enlighten me, what the fuck is Heaven and Hell? Is The Bassment closed? Is there anything worth seeing???????
The Theatre, damn good place to drink and, lets not be silly, if you're going to go in, go through the Ticket Office...it's free!
Club hedonism is shit so is the belfry bar the best bar is the tredals wine bar and the theatre!!!!!!!!!!!
bodegas is so shit and the hedenism is the best is the tredals wine bar
heaven and hell on a wednesday night
Jay-Bee Theatre School For Dancing is buzzin
why call it regents it is now HEAVEN AND HELL and it a r8 laf on a thursday, friday n saturday n if u dunt like it then dunt go SIMPLE init!!
Heaven and Hell-Can be good Midweek for all the drinks promotions and student atmosphere, Livingstons is full of 35+ and Hedonism is usually dead.
Not great, heven and hell on a wednesday coz all the students get battered on 2 for 1 so the atmosphere is pretty good
H&H is ok on a friday, even have ther own drinks now
The Clubs in Barnsley are moderately good, but as we alll know a night out is what you make it. I've had the best nights in Heaven and Hell and Pharoahs ever, and then on the other hand the worst. As a 'Barnsley lass' I am aware of all the dirty old knob heads who can really ruin a night in barnsley, through perving and rudeness, so ladies be on the look out!
heaven and hell is mint especially on a friday night! da bouncers rnt dat bad no matter wot ppl say and no i am nt a bouncer or related 2 1 bt dey r only wankas wen u av dun summat 4 em 2 b wankas about! butterfields is a nice place bt a bit expensive, bar 1 is da place 2 b, always a laugh and decent drink prices, belfry do amazin cocktails, try the purple princess, the theatre plays gud music and is a laugh! brownes is really cheap bt it is always p[acked and nt really a nice place 2 b, if u like old music go 2 treadles thats packed 2 bt its a laugh!
heaven 'n' hell is the decent 1, hedonism sux
Heven 'n' Hell pop 'n' crisp nights- what is the point???????
RACIST BOUNCERS - outside of the lancaster Bar, The number one bar and the Number 7 bar in Barnsley town centre, these shout abuse at anybody who is different.
YOUNG TEENI BOPPERS ALWAYS GO 2 BIG NITES ON A FRIDAY AT HEAVEN N HELL IN BARNSLEY. ALL DA LADS ARE AFTA IS A BIT OF YOUNG PUSSY
Definatley Heaven and Hell at the moment, everywhere else is dead or full of the pentioners (over 30's)!!
heaven and hell is mint and dont u lot dis bodegas as that is a mint pub and if u dont like it you are a fucking wanker
On a Friday night there is only 1 place to be and that is the Heaven and Hell Club on Regent Street, good music no matter what you're into, cheap drinks and bouncers that stop fights before they get started
Every weekend the clubs are full of the same old faces, it reminds you of a visit to Blackpool Zoo, attractive people are few and fair between.
Heaven 'n' Hell or8 4 a nite art depends wot ya up 4!
Mercury and Heaven and Hell do passable rock nights on friday and wednesday nights respectively. Worth a look, but don't get excited.
Heaven & Hell - packed every nite now, Wednesday nights buy one get two free, Thursdays are triple your money and Fridays are all drinks cost a quid. Saturdays are full price and it's still packed to the rafters, and first Saturday of every month is the 6 o'clocker. Mind you there's plenty of space on the dancefloor in pharohs and you can get served at the bar straight away in hedonism, Mercury's Bliss had 50 people in on Saturday and most of them was the DJ's mates - nice try though
What was Regents, is now Heaven and hell, it sucks ***** so go to Hedonism
Pharohs on a thursday, is fantastic if you have had 12 pints and you are snogging some bird of whom's name you haven't got round to asking yet. Music is fantastic
regents used to alreyt but na theres all those teeny bober niyts and the bottles of beer av gon up an'all
All night clubs in town are ok but regents is always full of kids - underage drinkers!!! Clubs and pubs in thetarn are not full of slags and we may not all be posh and rich but we know barnsley better then anyone else in the country... by the way whoever said you can't get a decent bird from barnsley its only cos we dunt want you so go and get fucked you bastards!!!!!!
The Union Bar, Eastgate. Got an atmosphere you could cut with a knife. You can get nicotine addiction just by walking past.
If you like nice clean clubs dont bother comin to tarn. If you like cheap clubs full of legless, would shag owt in a skirt type blokes and legless, would shag owt wi' a cock type girls, i recomend Rege' or Hedonism, Pharoes is slightly more upmarket, but not by much
For a long time Regents Park on a thursday was top bollocks, cheep drinks (£1 a bottle) and lots of young slags (not TOO young obviosley). Lets put it this way if you dont get a bit of hookey after a night out round Barnsley then you must have turned it down.
Clubs in barnsley are full of drunken cavemen, embarassing.
Club Hedonism and Pharoahs are OK, Regent's Park is rubbish and is noted for the youthful appearance of its clientele.
Pharoes for the 'clever' people
Hedonisms for the anyone who wants to test 'anti-sticky carpet' shoes (c)
Regents Park if you're a remarkably young patron
Regents Park under 18's. A good place to go once a month. Barnsley's supposed to be renowned for its night life but i only heard that on the radio the other day.
Pharoahs seems to be in vogue last time I was clubbing. Too pissed to remember what the music was like. I must try Regents Park next time as I didn't realise it had gone housey instead of cheesey pop.
"PHAROAHS" Rocks.......
Don't wash your hands in the basins of the Theatre Club. You never know who's been pissing in them.
THE THEATRE ,WELLINGTON ST BARNSLEY,,,,THE PLACE TO BE AFTER SUNSET
£1 ADMISSION THURS FRIDS SATS + SUND LIVE BANDS
When the Alabama Alligator ('The Bamma') closed down to make way for a shite bowling alley, half the rockers in Barnsley wept. We had to make do with shite Whispers on Wednesday nights
Oh my god, the Theatre? that opened at least 3 or 4 years ago!!!
But anyway, I work upstairs in Mustang Sallys, come and see me on the door!!!
I also work at Pharoahs, which I have to say is now by far and away the best club in town. Regent's has recently gone trancy instead of the classic house, but the DJ (Jez is quite good though. At Pharoahs, four top D.J.'s play. How about Shaun 'Banger' Scott from Barking Brothers (Gordon's Groove). It took me a year to make that connection even though I talk to him every week. Easily my favourite tune even before I knew. Hedonism has split into 2 clubs and 2 bars, but they are all too 'poppy' for my liking. Walk from the new Orchard Brewary to Sports, Mustangs, Theatre and then Pharoahs. All on one street and they are only the tip of the iceberg that is WELLINGTON STREET. Euan
What about trying the newly opened Pharoahs nite club, it is a little on the small side but the drinks are cheaper than Hedon Rock where you pay £2.70 for a bottle of METZ, which is more expensive than the nite clubs in Leeds and Sheffield. What the hell do they think we are?
Best night spot (at the age of 15) was The Mapplewell disco, or Monday nights at Japanse Whispers.
Two (formerly three): Regent's Park and Hedonism (or Hedonspasm as it's otherwise known). Good if you like dodgy house music, booze, birds and fighting, but crap otherwise (the student nights on Wednesday and Monday respectively are just about OK).
Live Music Venues
Dunno, but used to love the Chennels, Tut n Shive and Shambles on a weekend. Now it's all crap.

farm road M.Cers club its or8 get to hear r8 gossip
Citrus Rooms
Arctic Monkeys are playing somewhere in Birdwell in July (05). Forget big bands but smaller venues like Panama JOes or the upstairs room will probably be showcasing the newest dreary EMO or METAL bands.
Go to Leeds or Sheffield
Panama Joe's is a great venue for local bands. KGV will start hosting bands from April. Sablesfear is a local band well worth seeing.
The Upstairs Room, I've seen Catch-it-kebabs there soooo many times. Ringsting were also on there and their drummer is lush!
Panama Joes (local bands)
Upstairs in The Assembly
The Leopard in Doncaster
Nottingham Rock City
Leeds and Sheffield universities
ALL OVER BARNSLEY DIFFRENT VENUES AT DIFFRENT TIMES KERRY HALL USUALLY GETS SOME BIG BANDS ON
Panama joes is a great venue for bands, and there are no underage drinkers
A pub on sheffield road started a hardcore nite with live mcs but it attracted quite a few underage townie wankers
999 at The Arches, Pitt St on Mon 1st March 2004...support from 'The Legendary X-Rippers'...Tickets £5-00...more details at ' http://xrippers.4t.com '
'Terror on the Highway 2004' Tour hits Barnsley on Tues 17th Feb at The Arches, featuring 2 signed bands from darn sarf, 'Fastlane' and 'All but None'....£4-00 in, well worth it u students and guitar music lovers alike....shamoan
loal bands play in panama joes ad in chicago rock cafe sumtimes but i u want to c a band uve heard off u have to go into sheffield to the leadmill or octagon
Dont know the name but the place above Assembly has a few good bands playing.
Upstairs room, Panama Joe's
They all shut! Lord Nelson, The Union, The Tut and Shive, The firkin. All gone...oh well. Even Bodega's is shit now.
Treddles is the pub to be in. the music is second to none.
barnsley is a music venue it'sen
Dodworth M.W.Phoenix Band. Musical Director Mr.Eric Jessop N.A.B.B.C.
Rehearsal room at the Miners welfare complex, off High Street.
Rehearsal times, Tuesday and Friday nights 19 00 to 21 00
Everyone welcome (including spectators)
The Fealty and Firkin (upstairs) hosts a variety of local bands. Sites like this condemning them as "no hopers" makes it harder for them but they still try. They play every style and have a definate passion for their music. So don't write them off and get out on a friday night!
Bodegas and Durties among others have some good local bands
West Green Club
Mainly happening in sheffield at the arena.
The Theatre is a boozer well worth a visit. Massive coverted theatre with funny things on the walls and ceiling. It also has bands.
Hello? In Barnsley?
Wellington Street.
Dodgy workintg mens clubs (just think of Vic Reeves' Club Style' of singing)
You've gotta be having a laugh. The thing about Barnsley is that as it's so close to Sheffield and Leeds, hardly any decent bands play here, so you've usually gotta travel to see a decent band. The Theatre (actually a large pub, formally a theatre) puts on lots of bands, none of them good - however it had a 12 o'clock license the last time I was there. The Civic regularly puts on loads of shite. The student bar has the potential to be good, but the manager's a clueless wanker. Various no-hoper local bands play at a few pubs, but they're normally not worth bothering with. If you fancy a laugh check out the very derivative Full Fathom Five (or Full Fathom Fuck).
Cinemas
Its bin closed darn. the bastards!
erm there was the odeon before it got closed down and boarded up now its off the bloody meadowhell or wakey(snigger)
No cinema left anymore since the Odeon closed down, shame really, it was dingy and could've really done with a lick of paint but now you've gotta travel to Sheffield or Wakey for a film and they're much more expensive tickets.
odeo tlk abart mardy ba*t*r*s theyalways have smile on floor, n u say 1 word during the film ur out, its best when u watch sumet scary, then u can thro popcorn alother and just say u got scared .
odeans or8 bit shite like
Bit crap in tarn would go to Wakfield
cineworld at wakefield on retail park is good, you can pre book seats go to mc donalds or pizza hut and finish off in time for sitting down to watch a good movie and always a good selection. + sat morning club for the kids my daughter loves it.
Go to Cineworld at Wakie
The Odeon - it's small
barnsley cinema sux big time cineworld in wakie is the best in yorkshire
ONLY GOT THE ODEON AND MEADOWHALL NOT FAR AWAY
the odean at barnsley is good, clean and no noise, however i would travel to watch something at wakefield
Odeon is shit for variaty, but on the otherhand its cheap and the seats are more comfey now they have been changed
The Odeon sucks major cock.
dont go to the odeon! it might collapse while u r in it! go 2 meadowhall and the cinema there!
odeon - dont go it sux
Go to Meadowhall- the floor isn't as likley to swallow you up before the film ends!
If you want a cheap nite then the Barnsley Odeon is ok now theyve done it up but otherwise its probably best going to Meadowhall cos thers a lot more choice.
Odeon, it sucks
There are 2 good things about the Odeon in Barnsley centre, 1)it's way cheaper than anywhere else 2)the fridge of haagen daas in the foyer! For God's sake give the place a lick of paint!!!
Odeon... KRAP!!! 2 screens n abart 3 films showin... seats n that a not r8 healthy either, tek a deck chair u mite b comfier!!
Barnsley Odeon, it's sooo rubbish. Do NOT travel miles to come to this ancient, mess of a cinema. They usually only have achoice of two or three films, and to be honest you'd be better off going to Sheffield or Meadowhall.
They can soon build a 12-screen multiplex on the site of Oakwell, then for the first time in donkeys years, people can claim they've been entertained at Oakwell.
The cinema is a decrepit fleapit which ought to be demolished immediately. Other neighbouring towns and cities like Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Wakefield, Chesterfield and Doncaster have 10-screen multiplexes, so why not Barnsley? The Warner Village at Meadowhall and Ster Cinema at The Light in Leeds are far better, but then they couldn't possibly be worse.
odeon, bit of a dump tho, ant bin there in years
1 ******* odeon and a bowling place, not even a good one that that, odeon been re-furbished and is pretty sweet now
All we have is the Odeon, where the projector is illuminated with a candle, and has a monkey cranking the handle.
Odeon - a fleapit which is about as inviting as Lenin's tomb, and is at least 30 years overdue for demolition and replacement.
Rubbish odeon with not enough screens
well, wot can u se abart barnsley cinemas other than fetch ur own chair and speakers oh, and maybe a few cushions
Odeon wants refurbishin i will admit that the chairs are like sitting on ablock of concrete...
Penistone Cinema. They have intervals just so you forget the first half of the film and have to go and see it again.
One pokey little hole, again don't bother!
Barnsley cinema is out of the arc!
Odean is cheep but i suggest you take your own chair
The Barnsley Odeon is rubbish - too small, wonky speakers. Better than nothing I suppose.
Odeon but i prefer Sheffield at meadowhall warner bros. cinema or at the megaplex.
Once got a blow-job in The Odeon inthe middle of Naked Gun 2. There were only us two in the whole place. Just about sums it up.
Still talk of at least one multiplex, but the Odean is quiet enough!!! Euan
Cinema is appalling. They were never going to be able to compete with Meadowhall complex but come on 'superior seats' they're National Express bus seats aren't they?????
The Odeon, a genuine fleapit! My wife used to work there so I should know!
On about building a 10 screen job, with poss theatre/bars Etc..... It will more then likey be shite but how knows...
