Record Shops

  • blacklodge records
  • Blacklodge records, it's new and wonderful, if it hasn't got what you want they'll try and order it for you!
  • It should be noted that Andy's Records has been closed for over a year now.
  • Replay records-very good
  • Ethix records - i haven't been in there, they stock stuff i would rather castrate myself than listen to. However some people may like it and they sponsor / organise dance music events. Wooo..... Black Lodge Records - This one's opened recently, and i seem to go in there daily. It's fantastic for all sorts of CD's and vinyl from independant record labels from across the UK and abroad. It stocks a nice range of hardcore, punk, metal and all that jazz. Luke's a nice guy too. Check his online version: http://www.blacklodgedistribution.co.uk Other than that you might want to check HMV, it's not so bad, they have a nice and growing classical collection.
  • Try the Regents Arcade and another shop next to the Tap and Spile Pub also Disk and Tape on Grimsby Road
  • i dunno wot its called but near the tap and spile, across the river at the bk of freshny, theres a kool record and cd shop where u can get a whole load of rare vinals and printed vinals as well as some kool original singles from some kick ass bands
  • thank god for hmv
  • theres really no exclusive record shops in grimsby but do try the new hmv they have the largest rock section ive ever seen!
  • enthix in regent arcade
  • Theres only two major music shops in sunny grimsby. Virgin mega n Andys records. An LP shop has just opened in cleethorpes market area next to schuberts(where i work funnily enough)
  • there are many record shops, too many to mention. but top town market & freeman street markets are where you get the best bargains.
  • Reply-Records is the only good record shop in town!!! Go out of the back doors of Freshney Place. (the doors near the Ann Summers Shop) Cross the river on the foot bridge and its on your right. In there you will find loads of records... Beatles, Queen, AC/DC, Led Zeplin, Wham, Hearsay...whatever your taste he has probably got it. Spend loads 'a' money there NOW!!!!
  • Visit Replay Records in Haven Mill for cds priced at £5. Speak to guy called Scott who owns it,if he hasn't got it he'll find or it's not worth getting! Truely great place in Grimsby keep up the good work!
  • Pride was the best. Virgin and Andy's stupidly overpriced.
  • THERE ISNT MANY GOOD RECORD SHOPS ONE OF THE COOLEST IS REPLAY RECORDS THOU THATS COOL
  • Replay Records. over the canal, next to the T&S pub. the place in grimsby for rare, second-hand records. only the cool kids know about it. say hi to Scott, tell him you like AC/DC.
  • Andy's Records
  • INDUSTRIA RECORDS-GET TOP TUNES HERE VIRGIN RECORDS ANDY'S RECORDS
  • beorc - the 1 and only original shop
  • Andy's for the best educatication, the Mary Chain singles and boys!
  • What a joke, Grimsby doesnt have any decent record shops
  • andys records sells cd @ £9.99
  • everyone meets outside virgin which is so highly priced compared to wooleys and wh smiths
  • they openned Virgin a few years back which was a great cultural leap for the place.
  • an O.k. second hand shop on hainton ave if you really can be bothered to walk there
  • Andy's records is really pretty good for a small, chain shop. Better than that Johnny-come-lately virgin, anyday. Wonder if they still got the Phil Spector box set in?
  • The Vinyl Network is the place. Owned and run by myself up at scartho. www.vinyl-net.com. We also have a full studio and are producing our own records from here for Good Looking Records.
  • Blackmail Records down Hainton Avenue. Second hand CDs at brill prices! Specialises in Rock.
  • Andy's records-great but too hot, Virgin: avoid as they are too expensive and didn't give me a job.

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • music bar has to be the venue although it is often played infront of about 10 people on a saturday when people would rather be in the riverhead bars sniffing the nose candy
  • Rock night at surfers on a tuesday night, it just keeps getting bigger and better and has a crazily packed little dancefloor- love it! (located across from the barge and above walkabout)
  • Tap & Spile - 2nd Tuesday in month: Open Mic Night; last Tuesday in month: Acoustic Culture Night (both from about 8:30); Swigs - 1st and 3rd Tuesday in the month: Acoustic Night (from 8:30pm). No restrictions on types of music but no space (or license) at either for more than 3-piece groups (and no space for drum kits).
  • Winter Gardens U18's.....how legendaryy back in the day, thank fuck i grew up!
  • Gullivers (gullies) is the local 'alternative' club. It's not really that good, but i usually always end up in there. The bouncers are easily persuaded by young patrons. Once he rang my friends mum to check his age. Surfers also does a rock music night on tuesdays which is top notch. The Matrix is good for shooting pool, has a nice jukebox and the likes. Just like gullies it's members only, and also like gullies this is never really brought up or mentioned.
  • FUSED! wicked new pub/club open till 2 am. Really funky up to date music!
  • looking for info on le rues formerly IT bar in grimsby....who gets in how much and when? taa
  • Baker street (bakerdome) on monday night persuading the bouncers to let us in for a blow job.
  • get yourself down gullies son, or hollywoods back in the day (2000/2001).think its now called bar matrix, though last i heard that was shutting too. oh dear.
  • Gullivers, Surfers, bove the walkabout pub....THe Venue is good as it locally owned so you dont get any of that dejavu feeling that your've been here b4 but actually havnet...(prevelant in chain theme pubs)
  • Yates,lloyds,dn31's,Fused,parotiy,litten tree, Eky (under 18's may aswell be) then later down meggies 2 Baton n the pier!
  • Aint been to a club in Grimsby since i left 13 year ago,but Gullies was ok if ya liked alternative stuff, but JUezebels was great for a Rock night
  • GULLIES AND CLOULDS
  • im not underage and i dunno any underage drinkers ( honest ) yea i like matrix gullies and barge most of the other places are poo, oh and lloyds, the older one not the pooy one :D
  • The Trawl on toothill is great place to hang out, mixture of old and young in there, nice atmosphere...and the legendary deano is the chef there! he's cooked me many meals and i have to say there lush! be sure to say hi to him! GOOD PLACES: The barge, gullies, loydds, witherspoons e.t.c. Keep away from THE EXCHANGE, full of townie freaks wearing the latest Henri lloyd jumpers and the ever stylish rockports! You have been warned!
  • I remember democracy at the winter gardens and milk at the waterfront....not that long ago really but seems it now...
  • THE CLUBS HERE ARE SHIT GO TO HULL OR DONNY 10 TIMES THE NIGHT THEN THIS SHIT HOLE
  • THE BEST NITE OUT USED TO BE CLOUDS GOOD MUSIC AND THE CLIENTS REALLY USED TO MAKE AN EFFERT WITH DRESS FULL OF UNDERAGE KIDS LOTS OF FLIRTING AND MAY BE A GOOD KICKING FROM A YORKIE ON THE WAY OUT ANY OF YOU REMEMBER THE EKIE THE SAME CROWD AS GULLIES BUT MOR OBSCURE MUSIC
  • Gullivers club, still the only after-hours watering hole that isn't utterly vulgar. Thanks Pete; we all owe you.
  • flares is the new 70's club
  • Gullivers! Check out the website: www.gulliversniteclub.co.uk
  • all the clubs in grimsby and cleethorpes are easy for ermm young patrons, however Chicagos are quite strict. the best club has got to be gullies! quality music. if your into the townie scene check out the pier, parklane n most of the pubs in cleethorpes. my favs are o'neils, Chicagos, Litten Tree, Smugglers and of course gullivers!
  • most of the clubs have music & dancing, hainton, cromwell, freemans. many more .then you have many venues in cleethorpes'witer gardens, pier, clouds, in fact to many to write down.if tou look for it you can find it in grimsby/cleethorpes.
  • pier, flares(70's club)
  • Hollywoods Nightclub in Grimsby is THE rock night to go to. It's the only one, in fact. But it has cheap drinks, cheap entry fee and an astoundingly good-looking barmaid! So you can't go wrong! It's open on a Tuesday night from about 9.30/ten ish til 2am.
  • HOLLYWOODS! Next to wetherspoons, its where all the grebs congregate after the barge, lloyds, swigs. open till 2, you'll meet the love of your life there. deffin' it!
  • wintergardens, beachcomber, hollywoods
  • Gullies is still the only place in town worth bothering with.. you can get battered in piece, listern to the same song you listerned to a decade ago, you generally won't get the crap beaten outta ya - it's sad, but it's a safe bet. - You can steal drink and always take the piss outta the goths?
  • Gullies
  • hollywoods....? well what can i say? if you fancy a drink in the great pubs down town ie woods, huxters and edwards and then fancy going to a night club you have to go down meggies as hollywoods is a dive id rather go to one of the nunny's scruffiest single parent houses infested with fleas by there numerouse amount of nasty dogs i would not be seen dead there it is full of 14 year old lasses who are just after a shag(without contraception may i add)
  • gullies-world renowned club for the elite glitterati of grimsby,goths,red-nex,sk8ers,stoodents,metal maniacs mix in a quaint gy tradition of getting bolloxed, fighting, talking shit & dancing to killing in the name of-ratm for the 23rd time in one night!
  • Gullivers night club, the best place around. Good people, honest(ish) people, none of those trendy wanna be's in here!
  • I guess theres only gullies if you like anything slightly different
  • the Waterfront closed, didn't it? Gulli's is actually okay, it's the most open-minded place in the area and the only place were you don't have to try to fit in to avoid being glassed. Cleethorpes, Cleethorpes, there's much much more in Cleethorpes...
  • Stuff dance music clubs. Go to Gullivers for a storm crackly DARK night out.
  • jezabells, school social club (whitgift), to young for anything else!
  • Gullies and The Waterfront, when it opens again, but only on Thursdays and Saturdays as Fridays is rave night, full of E heads.
  • The clubs are a bit dull so it's best to go into Cleethorpes for a night out.
  • There are alternative nights at Gullivers & Baker Street, as well as the option of a load of dance rubbish in nearby Cleethorpes.
  • The clubs in Grimsby are thought to be shit and really to tell you the plain truth they bloody well are!!!! The only two clubs of note in Grimsby are the Waterfront and Gullivers. These are both known to be student clubs but they only play indie shit and no dance stuff. The only decent nightclubs in the region are based in Cleethorpes but there's no point in telling you about them as they are not in Grimsby are they? So basically for clubs and stuff like that, the town is alright if you're a heavy metal twat or an Indie bastard, but if you're in to good music GRIMSBY IS NOT YOUR TOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Live Music Venues

  • ooh closest to grimsby were big bands are is sheffield or hull
  • lloyds- always was the best- Curl rule
  • matrix club,
  • The matrix (ex-hollywoods) it's a small venue but has amazing gigs and even nicer people, can't fault it (much). it's close to the train station, next to wetherspoons (for all you non-locals)
  • There's only one place worth going, The Bootlegger on Cleethorpes High Street.
  • Auditorium. Rubbish bands from the 80's play here sometimes. Check out the matrix club, there's quite a few people putting on shows here and you geta nice range of punk, hardcore, indie, emo, metal, screamo etc etc. I ALWAYS have a good time here when there's live music on. The Venue above the cominc book store used to do good shows, but then someone broke the table football and they banned us for being anarchists or something and now they only put on iron maiden tributes. Check out $teve $tanleys gigs at the spiders web and wintergardens too. If you like 14 year old pop punk.
  • Spiders Web was cool and the WinterGardens
  • THE SUB NICE AND SEEDY
  • The Matrix does cool gigs, cheap entry and the bar is very cheap!!
  • beechy or .... winters for gigs wen i got the cash
  • Best place now is the new venue bar ( formerly jj's music bar) live music most nights of the week, and the beachcomber has some good gigs.
  • Winter Gardens, Beechcomber and SPIDERS WEB!
  • various drum n bass and hip hop nights around town
  • Grimsby Auditorium usually has plenty of bands on. In the past there has been a Meatloaf tribute band, Queen tribute band, Status Quo and teeny duo PJ & Duncan! You just have to look at local press for details. Also you could look up the Beachcomber in Cleethorpes, it has a lot of local bands and has also hosted bands that are now on their way up in the music business such as [spunge] and Lost Prophets. It also hosts The Rumble Band, which are famous in the area and also had Mod nights, with The Jamm and Paul Weller Connexion.
  • Gullivers Club! Check out the web site: www.gulliversniteclub.co.uk
  • The Beachcomber! quality bands like clash, paul wellar tributes. nuff said
  • beachcomber holds some good gigs from time to time...and me being purely un greebo actually enjoy them
  • auditaurium, and all above
  • BRING BACK THE PARTY ON THE PIER, THAT ROCKED!
  • GOOD OLD WEST MARSH WERE ALL THE GIGS ARE HELD NOW SEEING AS THE BASTARDS AT CARTERGATE ARE BEING A BUNCH OF DICKS
  • beachcomber
  • If into Northern Soul, Mod,Punk,New Wave ,Ska etc. then every few months either Winter Gardens or Beachy hold such nights with live bands & DJs - usually well attended - Good night out.
  • wintergardens (cleethorpes) the beachcomber (cleethorpes) hollywoods (grimsby)
  • Gullies for the loosers, Spiders Web for the country, O'Neils for the quiffs (oh! give it up boys)
  • i'VE GOT TO SAY THE BEST PUB IN TOWN IS THE SPIDERS WEB GREAT BANDS GREAT MUSIC AND A COOL VENUE. STAFF ARE FRIENDLY AND BEER PRICES ARE QUITE REASONABLE GIVE IT A GO
  • Mmmmmm another trick question
  • party on the pier was the beast thing that as ever happened to ge#rimcby and cleethorpes since i have lived hear which is 18 years now it was hosteds by viking fm and was a top day out with such acts like billie piper a1 five richard blackwood the "great" girlthing and loads more it really brought the town together aswell a sthe surrounding areas
  • South Bank Jazz Club in the 60's --- marvellous place
  • The best in town has got to be the Spiders Web on Carr Lane (No4 bus from town) for live Blues on a Friday night. Use it or lose it!!
  • Ye old musician next to fish`n`chick on Brighowgate
  • I'd like to warn anyone even THINKING 'bout going to a gig a Grimsby College not to go. The organisers bodge it all up and toss you out if you're even looking like you might be under 18!!! Boycot the College and let em pay for Fri Feb 26th!
  • Grimsby Auditurium is poor (not tell my bosses as I work there) there a good chance that your can will be broken into in the car Park and the the fire alarms will go off a the roof will out and you will get wet. The Prices are to expensive and the don't have any thing for younger 50's, unless your female were as they will put on the chippendales.
  • you dream of the perfect venue you get the auditaurium or o'neills never mind there's always suicide!
  • Most pubs have live music on at some point. Grimsby has a high percentage of band members in the general population.
  • Only place I ever know to put on bands worth seeing is the Winter Gardens...but then that's in Cleethorpes.
  • Spider's Web in Clee Road (oops, is this in Cleethorpes??) has great local bands on most weekends. Auditorium could be a good venue, if it wasn't trying to be a badminton court or ice rink!! Come on N E Lincs council, make yer mind up!!
  • grimsby parade was about the only "venue" i attended.
  • Harleys, previously known as the Spanish Steps, but that's in Cleethorpes, it used to be the County now called Ye Olde Musician but they need to get their act sorted out.
  • Freshney Place is OK, the Auditorium is crap: too big for some bands, too small for others and it has terrible acoustics.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Grimsby. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Grimsby.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
