Musical Instrument Shops and DJ Gear

  • pools, but online would offer more choice and reasonable prices
  • Pooles Music, now has a new web site www.poolesmusic.co.uk and instead of complaining about it or the shop, we would like constructive criticism on what we can do to improve our shop and website for you, as it makes a lot more sense than dealing with unknown out of town companies, or ordering online from an unknown and ending up with a pile of junk you can't use, remember, guitars are all different, even the same model varies, so you need to physically try them, find one you like and buy that one, not the same model from elswhere that could have a thicker neck, worse action, etc, etc, talk to us, we will listen, and support your local shop, otherwise you will end up having nowhere to try anything at all. Thanks for reading this, and I'll get off my soapbox now.
  • There's not much choice anywhere around here so I get on the train to Sheffield and go to Steel City Guitars down on London Road. I think it's more worthwhile going that little bit further to get there rather than messing about going to Electro or anywhere else in Donny. They've more choice, better on their prices, and they don't ignore you or treat you like an idiot! Pure guitar heaven!! They've got a brilliant website too!
  • River Music is great. The staff are very friendly and they now sell mainly guitar items. Well worth a look!
  • pss/pools
  • Just to add my support for The Tone Zone. Tony does a great job and is always helpful and friendly.
  • Check out www.stores.ebay.co.uk/dd3music great guitars for sale and the blokes who run this online gem really know their stuff, thanks for your great service and your guitar tech is the best.
  • There's pooles on Hainton avenue, and PSS above it. I only go here for strings because the instruments are really expensive, but it's local and independant. My friends work in PSS, so i go in there sometimes. Like i said it's good for strings and they're quite helpful above it in PSS, but it doesn't fit a students budget. There's also river music in cleethorpes. The guy in there ordered me a jackson warrior XT from the USA, and i got an awesome set of strings from there, so if you can get into cleethorpes go here. There's also DD3 music from grimsby which trades on ebay, but i can't comment on them, and apparently there's a place called tonez or tunez off hainton avenue, but i haven't seen it. They do 10% student discount i think.
  • I always go to The Tone Zone its at the rear of 38 Alexandra Road, Grimsby - loadsa cool guitars n stuff. And Tony (the same ace guitarist from the Blue Dots) is real helpful - does some real good deals for students too! and the website is the-tone-zone.co.uk - check it out
  • poole's, which is alright. the best i've been is steel city, sheffield. awesome.
  • Pooles on Hainton Avenue and The Tone Zone behind the Fishing Heritage Centre car park
  • Pooles are useless, and genuinely don't know what they are talking about. I picked something specific out of a catalogue, waited 2 weeks for them to order it, they told me it had arrived so I went to pick it up, and they hadn't ordered it at all they just gave me one of the shelf that didn't work because they couldn't sell it (not speculating, I was told by an employee) It is my aim in life to put them out of business... them and music lincs, because they do absolutely nothing for music education. Until that day, for woodwind players I would recommend Reeds Direct... www.reeds-direct.co.uk They are Cambridge based but if you order before 4 the reeds are with you the day after, and they are about £10 a box instead of £16. If you want music try June Emerson. Google will find you the address - they are also a lot quicker and more value for money. If you want to browse go to Hull or Lincoln. Happy shopping.
  • uuuurrrmmm i jus use pools for all mi bass n drum stuffs
  • hmmmmm, three crap over-priced music shops, two of which have the tiniest drum section. go to an online shop to get a good bargain.
  • Pooles is probably the place to go
  • go tothe tone zone. tony is a sound guy now hes got his own shop. (not like he was at pss the miserable fucker.) now hes cool and helps you out loads even go in for a chat. good prices and better guitars than everywhere else. pss is shit and so is river music. dont ever go to them fuckers
  • Pooles
  • Hi,I am Pete Dixey from PSS Music in Grimsby just letting you know that we have moved, in case anyone didn't know, we are now upstairs in Pooles Music Shop in Hainton ave and now have even more stock of your favourite guitars, and Students get DISCOUNT! just ask, we aren't going to bite your head off.We also have a web site which you can advertise your band and it's gigs for free, hows that, see you soon, Pete www.pssmusic.co.uk
  • theres a couple of instrument shops down near Asdas but part from that I aint got a clue!
  • RIVER MUSIC ???
  • Pooles is crap
  • pooles i did work experience there its really good you can get anything there and if you cant get it theyll send off for it
  • pooles......expensive.....make you feel inferior if you don't look like a classical musician archtype. go to electro in donnie youll get more for your hard earned & they treat you to a cup of coffee & a good yarn...
  • there's one in Waltham - Steven's was the best in town but it closed. Actually not a lot of people know that Grimsby has the biggest youth orchestra of any town in the UK
  • stay away from Pooles... they'd sell there own grandmothers if you could blow up there collective arses and get a c#
  • Go to P.S.S. Music in hainton ave, great p.a. gear, guitars and amps. Is also the place where Tony ace guitarist from the Blue Dots works. Student deals are great.
  • Check out Music For You in Waltham (almost Grimsby).

Recording Studios, Rehearsal Rooms, PA Hire

  • theres one down the road near the baracudda if u walk down the road where ya cant drive i think theres one on the right called sunnyside
  • Yes you can get a pro-recording locally! Checkout the new & updated Blue Lizard Studio website at www.bluelizardstudio.com for details.
  • Immage 2000 in immingahm and GY college appears to be the place for bands to record. I think most people pop off to leeds for recording. Rehearsal rooms aren't so bad, you can use pub function rooms or central hall for small fees.
  • Blue Lizard Studio - Recording, mixing & mastering. Professionally equipped project studio and full location recording service. Contact Rich - bluelizardstudio@yahoo.co.uk / mob: 07941 688918 Checkout studio & services at http://uk.geocities.com/bluelizardstudio. Audio editing and original music created for your projects too.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Grimsby. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Grimsby.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
