Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • there are no clubs discos and music bars just old people and bare chavy boys
  • The Bear and Key is dreadful now the live music has gone and become chavvy central
  • The Swalecliffe comunity centre has a pub and has county activities (tai chi and others).
  • Army Cadets join its good fun especially camp in august
  • Neptune is great, and the bear and kev has had a makeover but I haven't ventured within yet... It now has a weekend club though
  • The "Bear and Key" has recently been refurbished, new sound system/lighting, Friday and saturday night's open until 1:30am(ish)
  • Whitstable is NOT somewhere you go if you want 'late' night life, the only clubs 'Bear and key' and 'Duke of Cumberland' are poor and sometimes even dangerous!

Live Music Venues

  • Whitstable Labour club ( ex Golden Lion), Belmont Road, Whitstable. Live music twice a month on Saturday evenings. All types of country, Folk, jazz out the Back room and one date in four in the Bar which will be popular music. members free non-members £2.00 and sign in at door.
  • the neptune have good live music , as does the east kent
  • Mostly closed down due to neighbours complaints - I once did a gig with the mad professor.
  • More tVC deep house at the smack in middle wall every month on the first saturday...
  • The Fountain. The East Kent. The Neptune. New horsebridge development.
  • The Neppy does some good friday and saturdays. I saw Jim Leverton (Caravan) and I.J. from The Jon Doe Band play there a couple of weeks ago.
  • The TANK is now flats keep up!
  • tVc Sound System have moved from The East Kent to The Smack in Middle Wall. Next few dates at this comfortable and cozy little pub are: Tuesday January 23rd 2001 and Tuesday February 20th 2001. Also they are playing at The Planet Studios, 41 St George's Place, Canterbury on Saturday 13th January 2001 from 9.30 - 2am. Cool house grooves and hip-hop. £5 entry.
  • The record called `On a Mission` by the Grants` a local group get onto Invicta Radio to hear it on the airwaves it is being released on June 12th 2000.
  • The Tank / Tankerton Arms has closed. Try The Smack on a Wednesday nite. Open mike nite.
  • The Tankerton Arms now has a websit at www.thetank.demon.co.uk
  • tVc sound system play some cool deep house vibes every sunday evening at The East Kent. If you pop down you can get flyers for upcoming parties. They are generally a good bunch of tech/net/house heads and the relaxed ambiance underscores the recent 50 grand refurbishment the pub has just had.
  • The Tankerton Arms often has live bands as does the East Kent Pub but these are often pot luck to whether you pick a good night. Sometimes they are excellent whereas sometimes there are a bunch of pants. Some of the best gigs in Whitsable have been the bands that play once a year at Regatta weekend on top of the Tankerton Slopes. Very much worth a look in if you are around at that time.
  • The East Kent pub sometimes have bands playing there. They are usually very loud and sometimes if your lucky they might be good.
  • The East Kent Pub, occasionally.
  • The Old Neptune, Thursday nights often have Blues, sometimes, something a little different, good pub though (my Local)
  • The Tankerton Arms, Tuesday nights is Jazz. Some of Kent's top Jazz bands can be seen here!
  • Jazz at the Tank (Tuesday? evenings)

Cinemas

  • The wonderful cinema has now closed down. You have to travel to Faversham, Canterbury or Herne Bay to see anything. It's sacralige!
  • wish the oyster cinema was still there, it was excellent - we all know who to blame though don't we!?
  • :'( poor whitstable cinema we loved it so... rumours of a new one though yay!
  • Its closed because the money grabbing bastards who also own the hotel incontinental, the restaurant, some of the beach etc etc couldnt just let those fat profits go ,and decided theyd make money out of a second floor to thr restaurant.
  • aaahhh those were the days when we had a cinema... maybe the greens will build a nice new shiny one at the harbour, when they've extended their restaurant upstairs into the beautiful old cinema...
  • Great cinema in Whitstable, but why don't they advertise or provide information in the Gazette? This is frustrating and smacks of arrogance.
  • whitstable cinema kicks ass. its cozy and nbo pikes r there
  • Whitstable cinema is a great place to be but if you have a 12volt 1978 black and white TV, then it is obviously cheaper and more enjoyable to stay at home.
  • Although it has only ten lanes, the Whitstable bowling centre is by far the best in the area. It has many weekly clubs, best of all the YBC (Youth Bowling Club) which meets on Saturday mornings. Its Great!!
  • Whitstable cinema is lovely, a really ye olde classical, atmospheric feeling to it.
  • It's nice enough, don't travel miles for it though.
  • This is, without doubt, the best cinema in the country. It is above the royal native oyster stores and is jut great.
  • What can I say about Whitstable Cinema. Only that it is probaly the best cinema in the country. There is nothing more you could ask for in a cinema. All the latest releases, beer on tap, most leg room in Kent, need I go on any further.
  • Whitstable Cinema does not only have a licensed bar it is also the cinema with the most leg room in Kent. It is also very much more comfortable than other cinemas in the area and most nights it is very empty which means you can chose yours seats
  • Cinema is the best thing: the Whitstable Oyster House Cinema not only has a licenced bar... which... lets you take your pint into films (!)... but they also have an interval in all films to let you go back for more! (Popcorn and ice creams is also available for boring traditionalists)

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Whitstable. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Whitstable.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
