Record Shops
Actually, no. Rock Bottom isn't that friendly. Three people will stand around the counter talking very loudly about mundane things, clearly with little or no interest in any customers whom may be there. Totally unprofessional.
rock bottom, gatefield sounds
Rock Bum-in harbour street just off the high street has a wide selection.
Gstefield sound is a jolly excellent shop. they have all the pop music and will let you listen to your fave CD; they have a three for £12 CD from Naxos as an ongoing bargain offer. They will exchange Naxos CDs if they are not to your taste. Really the place to visit to stay in the groove.
Gatefield Sounds is the most friendly place to go, it has the widest selection of music and best prices in the town,(always cheaper than say... i dont know... Woolworths!)
Gatefield sounds is always good.
If you cant find it click on www.grant-and-forsyth.com their records are great and they are local people.
Gatefield sounds is excellent
Rock Bottom is the best record shop in Whitstable (Harbour Street) It has a huge selection of Jazz CD's, rarities, pop CD's and hundreds of records. This is the best record shop in Whitstable, not Gatefield Sounds
Gatefield Sounds, if they haven't got it they will order it! Great shop.
Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
there are no clubs discos and music bars just old people and bare chavy boys
The Bear and Key is dreadful now the live music has gone and become chavvy central
The Swalecliffe comunity centre has a pub and has county activities (tai chi and others).
Army Cadets join its good fun especially camp in august
Neptune is great, and the bear and kev has had a makeover but I haven't ventured within yet... It now has a weekend club though
The "Bear and Key" has recently been refurbished, new sound system/lighting, Friday and saturday night's open until 1:30am(ish)
Whitstable is NOT somewhere you go if you want 'late' night life, the only clubs 'Bear and key' and 'Duke of Cumberland' are poor and sometimes even dangerous!
Live Music Venues
Whitstable Labour club ( ex Golden Lion), Belmont Road, Whitstable.

the neptune have good live music , as does the east kent
Mostly closed down due to neighbours complaints - I once did a gig with the mad professor.
More tVC deep house at the smack in middle wall every month on the first saturday...
The Fountain. The East Kent. The Neptune. New horsebridge development.
The Neppy does some good friday and saturdays. I saw Jim Leverton (Caravan) and I.J. from The Jon Doe Band play there a couple of weeks ago.
The TANK is now flats keep up!
tVc Sound System have moved from The East Kent to The Smack in Middle Wall. Next few dates at this comfortable and cozy little pub are: Tuesday January 23rd 2001 and Tuesday February 20th 2001. Also they are playing at The Planet Studios, 41 St George's Place, Canterbury on Saturday 13th January 2001 from 9.30 - 2am. Cool house grooves and hip-hop. £5 entry.
The record called `On a Mission` by the Grants` a local group get onto Invicta Radio to hear it on the airwaves it is being released on June 12th 2000.
The Tank / Tankerton Arms has closed.
Try The Smack on a Wednesday nite. Open mike nite.
The Tankerton Arms now has a websit at www.thetank.demon.co.uk
tVc sound system play some cool deep house vibes every sunday evening at The East Kent. If you pop down you can get flyers for upcoming parties. They are generally a good bunch of tech/net/house heads and the relaxed ambiance underscores the recent 50 grand refurbishment the pub has just had.
The Tankerton Arms often has live bands as does the East Kent Pub but these are often pot luck to whether you pick a good night. Sometimes they are excellent whereas sometimes there are a bunch of pants. Some of the best gigs in Whitsable have been the bands that play once a year at Regatta weekend on top of the Tankerton Slopes. Very much worth a look in if you are around at that time.
The East Kent pub sometimes have bands playing there. They are usually very loud and sometimes if your lucky they might be good.
The East Kent Pub, occasionally.
The Old Neptune, Thursday nights often have Blues, sometimes, something a little different, good pub though (my Local)
The Tankerton Arms, Tuesday nights is Jazz. Some of Kent's top Jazz bands can be seen here!
