Favourite Building
The Clive Arms, John st
Custom House down on the Dock (Sorry..Penarth Portway Marina !)
my house, because it is a castle (you can see it from the end of the pier)
WHSmith cos it hat to be rebuilt after someone I knew tried to burn it down
The Victorian Pier on the Esplanade, which underwent £1m renovations in 1997
The Washington Cinema, home of Penarth's major design company, Washington DC.
Anything vaguley nice (Esplanade Hotel, Christ's Church...) gets torched/demolished to make way for more retirement homes.
Demolish It Now Building
The Railway Inn
Car park on the beach.
Multi Storey Car Park on beach front - though used to be a great diving board when the Spring Tide is at its highest now is just an old amusement arcade which still takes old coins !
all the old peoples homes and the "seabank flats" because if they were demolished, my house would be worth about twice as much
St. Cyres Comprehensive school.
That multi-storey car park.
The Best Things
the best thing is being in Australia and not in Penarth.....
attention skateboarders! the new washington steps are actually better for skating than the old ones! ha ha, we win!
The new steps in front of the Washingto . Stops the Scateboarders
All day breakfast and a pint of Stella for less than four quid in the Windsor.
Sadlers butchers, near the train station which still sells game.
Williams the baker.
The Westbourne Guesthouse, best place to stay. Nice friendly family runs the place, best breakfast I've ever tasted. great evening menu and bar to socalise, have to be a resident or be in with the owner though.
Proprietors : Brian & Mary Hardiman
hiding in the bushes and shooting dogs with an airgun while they crap by my front gate
It's quite close to cardiff
Lots of large,luxurious parks.
Quiet pleasant town, but convenient for Cardiff and airport.
Beach.
Not stepping in a turd for a whole day??
Night-time strolls along the esplanade, when you can't see the colour of the water
The Worst Things
the amount of kids
Old age pensioners who all have cars and are ruthless in their parking and driving on most days. If you want to travel into Penarth, it's best to take a bus/train or walk, as it's the car driving capital of Wales for the over 60's.
The Weather - it nearly always rains!
the elite in stanwell school circa 1982-1988
Bloody kids on skateboards rattling around on the pavements.(Well you asked !)
Dog muck.
An ever increasing nouveau-riche population who drive everywhere in this small town in their space wagons while kidding themselves they are leading a 'green' life!
Tescos - which is killing the town centre.
living too close to barry
the old people
the horrible kids standing near barlcays bank in the centre
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Penarth.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Penarth.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
