Food

  • Sam's Thai restaurant, just along the river from the fire station.
  • Delicious is a great takeaway in Cross Hayes. Also Malmesbury Tandoori, Rendez-vous and Rajah (Other takeaways in the High Street).
  • The Old Bell Hotel & Restaurant (2 rosettes, AA 3 stars, RAC 3 stars) is famous for its gargantuan Sunday Roast lunches, choice of carved meats, plates of steaming vegetables, fruits pies and clotted cream, whole cheeses and supberb wines. After that, we wake you for one of our special teas - huge slabs of coffee walnut cake, sandwiches & Lapsang tea - this is no ordinary experience and only the brave & starving should book. We've even got a Sundays only special rate if you need to sleep it off. Pure indulgence.
  • Delicious is great, specially after a couple
  • Kings Arms restaurant has been re-furbished Sept 1999..well worth a visit...food evn more excellent than it was before !!
  • Good food but expensive at the Smoking Dog. Cheap but amazing variety at the Kings Arms. Suffolk Arms used to be great for food but has gone down hill in last five years. Malmesbury Tandoori - cheap but greasy Indian Take-away. Rajah is new sit down restaurant - more expensive, sometimes good, sometimes not. Best food in town is in the superb Le Flambe restaurant - fantastic restarant with great french/continental/saucy food.
  • The Old Bell Hotel (The best place for high quality food and service.)
  • The Whole Hogg, Kings Arms

Pubs

  • Smoking Dog is fun and friendly, and does good food.
  • Around 11 pubs in Malmesbury, best ones are the Three Cups, Duke of York and Whole Hog. There's also the Rose & Crown, Guild Hall, Borough Arms, Smoking Dog, Suffolk Arms, Old Bell and Kings Arms.
  • Look out for the changes at the Kings Arms Hotel
  • Three Crowns - good start to the evenings. Kings Arms LHS for OAP's - RHS for young crowd, Guildhall for younger crowd, Smoking Dog for twenty and thirty somethings and older - good mix of people. Rose and Crown is up and coming boozer. Duke of York is OK for lunchtime pint but a bit out of the way for inclusion on a decent pub crawl.
  • The Smoking Dog if you're mature enough for it
  • The Whole Hogg, Kings Arms, The Guild is probably the best pub in Malmesbury and also occassionally has live music.

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • Amanda's teashop is the best, and only a 30sec/1 min walk away from The Summer Cafe. It's blue and yellow - you cannot miss it!
  • Summer Cafe on High Street for the craic, Amanda's (around the corner) for cheaper grub.
  • The Summer Cafe and Amanda's Cafe, both in the town centre
  • Newly re-furbed Coach House Cafe Bar opening at Kings Arms Hotel Friday 4th May 2000. Usual excellent food, even greater Coffee's & Snack's etc...well worth a visit

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Malmesbury. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Malmesbury.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
