sadly lacking in clubs unless you count the appalling apollo which is full of kiddies
Great Beers(cheap )at The Buccaneer
The Cove is no more but now we have Cheekys -by Coney Beach, where you can still hear Porthcawl's celebrated DJ Colin.
Try the Apollo for the sardine effect, Streets for the odour of cheesy feet and the Cove for a waiting experience - they've been closed down. Sob.
lol
not bad in porthcawl cove etc
Appauling(sorry, I mean Apollo) is better than the rest but still naff. It's like a long hot corridor & I got my drink spiked there-not good, especially when you're a police officer! Avoid all clubs in Porthcawl with care!
Marine is ok though.
DOESN'T MATTER AS LONG AS PISSED. RUBBISHNESS OF BEING BROUGHT UP HERE ACTUALLY A BLESSING - LOW EXPECTATIONS, MAKE YOUR OWN FUN, EARLY DRINK PROBLEM ETC.
Apollo
All (Ha ha all, both!)the clubs are dire in the extreme playing the naffest chart music. But at least the women are accomodating(Anything to deepen the gene puddle!)
the cove is by far the best club in porthcawl. it's wasted on all you rugger buggers who just want to go to streets, the apollo anhd de niros and dance to "oh what a night". but if you're reading this whoever's in charge at the cove, knock the drum and bass on the head, have you not noticed that the dancefloor clears at exactly 1.20 am every week just as the jungle starts? stick to the trance
The Cove is the best club in Porthcawl!!! The music is tidy and the atmosphere is wicked!! Nothing better than a bottle of Reef on a Saturday nite!!
The Cove!!!! People complain that there's not enough people there, but that's better than the Apollo(pakced to the rafters). People also complain that the Cove is full of druggies, it's not a scene out of Trainspotting you know! The Cove has a great atmospheare, good dance music as opposed to pop tripe, cheaper entrance fees and great regulars.
Only visit the Knight arms, Apollo or The Marine if you are definately under 16!!!
Streets is one of the best places to go in porthcawl and the only reason some of these find the cove good is because they are so young if you are any older than 18, then try streets or the apollo.
The Appollo - kind of crap, but it beats the over 40s in De Niros or The Green Room. Streets is only good if you actually want to lower your face down on some rugby bloke's fist. Hint: if you're English, tell them you're from Jersey, that always helps.
THE COVE IS ABOUT THE BEST IN PORTHCAWL AT THE MOMENT. THE APPOLO IS LIKE A SARDINE CAN AND STREETS IS FULL OF TROGS. DENIROS WE'LL SAY NO MORE
Not many dance - lots of golf. The only decent club in Porthcawl is the Apollo, it's next door to the best kebab shop in porthcawl - Caspians
The Apollo! Gay on Christmas Eve......!
Gigi's has changed it's name to Streets and is Brilliant !! Deniros is PANTS...
Gigi's is no more - it is now called 'Streets' and it is not bad - bit of dance, bit of chart etc
The Cove (Underneath the Esplanade hotel), The Apollo, Gigi's (Avoid), DeNiro's (Also avoid). There are also loads in the caravan site but are shite and only open in the summer...
Live Music Venues
Green Man
the Jolly on a sunday night
The odd pub with aging nobodies (Secret Army)playing awful covers and even worse, their own stuff!
The Knights Arms, my band Headstock plan to play there this summer.
The Knights Arms pub and the Pavilion.
Cinemas
ONE IN BRIDGEND ,THE ODEON
The only thing that there is to do here is play on arcade machines - theres a mini bowling place in Trecco Bay but it is a bit inferior!
ODEON IN BRIDGEND BY SAINSBURYS. IT IS A CLASSIC
u have to go into bridgend
The Odeon in Bridgend is class. shops, foodcourt and a small arcade.
Bus to bridgend, then train to Cardiff or Swansea or indeed anywhere else!
Pavillion is shit,in fact you can create your own Pavillion cinema experience yourself. You may aswell buy a dodgy telly, put it about 30 yards away from you and fuck about with the sound until its gets to a level where you can here a muffled sound and have to really concentrate on what people are saying. Then sit bolt upright in a shitty chair, get an ice cream from the freezer and chuck a tenner in the bin. Sit back and enjoy some absolute bollocks, "that appeals to the family", i.e. some bullshit that someone who has never been to school will laugh at.
The Pavillion shows last years films now because they're chepaer to buy i suppose. If you want cinema then go to the McArthur Glen Odeon.
One which is like a flea pit from 1950
The Pavillion is the only place there's a cinema
The Pavilion turns itself into a cinema periodically and we get the latest releases not too much later than the multi-plexes. Specialist seasons planned.
