Favourite Building
The old sorting office
the Cove
Pavillion
The Big House on top of Nottage hill (no, not that one), because it belongs to my Uncle and I spend the best part of my waking day there.
that little hut thing on the entrance to cosy corner
The creepy big house in Nottage
The lighthouse and the seafront.
Chico's !!!!
The Lifeboat Station
Demolish It Now Building
The Atlantic Hotel
The pointless buildings the school continue to build, i.e. the Jubilee thing
The 758 old people homes dotted around the tiny town of Porthcawl, I thought young people were the future!!!
police station
Porthcawl Comeprhenive School (only kidding, Al)
THE FAOR AND SANDY BAY. OH AND TRECCO.
It already has been. A hideous speculative, gerry-built block of flats right on the seafront. There's probably a major political scandal behind how it ever got planning permission in the first place. Blown up by the army last year to tumultous applause.
The fair...get rid of it all !!
The Best Things
A walk on the prom when the waves are breaking over
the sea!!!
catching crabs under the prom
The Billy pool!
The road out of here :)
All in All Porthcawl town is a good spot for all you party people out there, and the boring site seeing types.
The school has a wonderful reputation and gets the best out of its pupils. Although strict its intentions are worthwhile and teach the students good manners and how to live in today's world.
Returning home from uni which is atleast 100miles from the ocean to be greeted by the smell of the sea air
The place is quiet enough to relax in, but cab get lively enough to have fun in.
Great for showing off on bikes
THE PEOPLE AND ATMOSPHERE. RESBAY TO CHILL ON A SUNDAY.
I used to live there
Rest Bay and it's surf. This year gaining the blue flag award (1998)
The sea. The slow pace of life, low crime rate, stable population. Sleepy resident winter metaphors into holiday visitor summer.
rest bay.
Sitting outside the Marine in the hot weather, drinking a few pints & watching the Trogs go by....while we all laugh at them
Sitting outside one of the bars on the sea front on a hot summers day watching the world go by
The Worst Things
Bank holiday trippers (but then again half the facilities would shut without them)
the kids!!!
Bearded men in bus shelters
The road into here :)
The nights are too short
drama teachers and headmaster - Big Al!
I have lived in porthcawl for 11 years. i went to porthcawl comprehensive
in year 7 and got expelled from there in year 8 for wearing trousers!!
The school and the majority of the people are selfish pretentious snobs.
POrtcawl Comp is run by a bunch of peferted old men who will not admit that
they are wrong.
BE WARNED do not send children to the school without finding out the
full information on their policies and heads!!!
It gets a bit too quiet in the winter.
Young scateboarders who pay little or no tax to keep the town running but believe they have the right to destroy it with their vandal-like behaviour
The civic trust (boring old farts who want to ban fun)
various other whingey old people
TROGS
I don't live there now
The surfing community! Definitely the 'Umpa Lumpas' of Porthcawl's, 'I wish I were still a teen' society! Thank goodness most of us were able to get out to Uni' and leave them splashing about near the sewage outlet on the beach!!
The trogs who swarm to Trecco Bay and invade the town in the summer.
Not enough shops. Too many banks/building socities. Nowhere for the kids to go except the prom , beach (see above). The slow pace of life. Preponderance of elderly people who don't necessarily understand the needs of the skaters etc .
Get's kinda boring after a while......Trogs have to be the most annoying things that ever walked the earth - enough already !!
Like most seaside tos it kind of goes to sleep in the winter , apart from Christmas when it goes bonkers
Flat ground where the Stoneleigh Niteclub used to be
Accommodation for overseas visitors. How can the local economy be stimulated and put Porthcawl on the map if B+Bs like Sound of The Waves double-book and rudely shunt surprised foreign tourists into lodging for workmen? There also appears to be rudeness and service without a smile in a certain souvenir shop with a neo-monopoly in the Highstreet...
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
