Favourite Building

  • alices antiquities [as featured in the italian job]
  • the trellick towers. NOT. do you think that im mad or something!
  • the coronet - traditional cinema, still going well in the face of the multiplexes.
  • The one above Europa foods
  • coronet cinema
  • The Tabernacle!
  • The loo in Westbourne Grove

Demolish It Now Building

  • that thing on top of europas - one of the worst decisions of teh 60's.
  • the trellick towers, theyr'e 2 massive cheap council accomodated tower block eyesores, and thats only half of it's problem. the other problem is that theyr'e rough and people who live there are unemployed druggies.
  • that building that looks like one of king kongs' suppositories above europa.
  • nothing
  • Trellick tower
  • The horrible modern pile on the corner of Notting Hill gate - Europa is underneath

The Best Things

  • easy to get too and from.
  • good local library. roller blading through kensington gardens.
  • quite leafy, easy to get everywhere from.
  • The smells

The Worst Things

  • Music Exhange Bookshop.Yugh these guys shake like they are on speed .They sell all sorts of wierd stuff and think that their dirty little shop is the coolest thing in the Gate.Too bad the few customers dont seem to agree. The big hardware store next McD.and Europa is getting pretty nasty too.The owner paranoididly follows all customers and accuses them of not replacing items with the art of a HArvey NICKS WINDOW DRESSER
  • very overated as a living area. that film - if i ever meet hugh grant, i'm gonna punch him.
  • Its a dirty crappy hole of a place and a dumping ground for druggies and scum. When the portobello market is closed, its like snipers alley, dodging the crack heads. I've had my money and my phone stollen too often in Notting Hill and the film of the same name bears no relation to reality here. If you can avoid it, then do.
  • it's extremely expensive. if your not rich you are very poor. this place has the worst graffiti problem in the south east!
  • woodys bar - arsy staff, expensive prices. general rudeness of people working behind the bars here.
  • Pavement overcrowding on portobello Road Saturdays. Zillions of Tourists gawping at vegetables and hoping to spy "freaks".CAnt move.Pickpocklets.Tight fisted Americans.
  • tourists looking for the blue door [it's not there!] the movie.
  • traffic
  • I spent the worst 6 months of my life living in N/Hill. The average standard of living is so low. You're either very rich or very poor. The streets are filled with litter and buildings covered in graffiti. Its just an overpriced and overrated bedsit land. Utterly depressing, Dont be fooled by Saturady's.
  • The prices

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Notting Hill Gate. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Notting Hill Gate.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
