Favourite Building
nice BIG houses as you leave out of Ashby willsley way
The Castle. If you think it's impressive now, just wait until they finish building it!
Ashby Castle
Used to be Bullens when it was a proper Deli
The big houses backing onto the Willesley Golf Club.
The open air swimming pool probably a pain in the ass for current residents but its really cool cause it hasn't changed since I can remember in the early seventies. When the Leisure centre was first built it asked to transform the pool to a modern indoor one and the council denied permission as @it was the last example in the county. Perhaps now though it is time to move with the times .
Demolish It Now Building
Westfields, concrete jungle.
The White Hart.
THE HOLE IN THE WALL, SYMPHONYS, OR HATEVER IT IS CALLED THIS WEEK.
Ashby Grammar School
Buds Bar - obviously!
Ashby Hastings Cricket Club pavillion. WE NEED A NEW ONE. It's in a pretty bad state and could the nice Lottery people or any wealthy businessmen give a helping hand.
The Lamb, Fayre & Firkin (£2.41 for a pint of old speckled hen!!) and all the estate/travel agents, charity shops & building societies which have strangled the town centre.
Bud's Bar.
The Cavern.
The Fayre and Firkin.
The Lamb.
Not my house, though, that'd be cruel.
The Best Things
A friendly wee town where everyone knows everyone. A nice place to grow up in but a bad place to live forever in, get out while you have the chance!
Wathching the boy racers in Hood Park as the race maybe as fast as 17mph!!! And boy do the girls love it.
THE ASHBY LOCAL POLICING UNIT AS THEY ARE ALL REALLY FRIENDLY AND EASY TO TALK TO, ALL THE POLICE WOMEN ARE GOOD LOOKING TOO.
Chippy, hood park n Westfields estate
Used to be the White Hart in the 1970's when Jim would sometimes drive the more worse for wear younger clientele home - God Bless Him!
Ashby is a fantastic place to come from, but a s*@thole to return to, ands that is being optimistic!
Amusing to watch the police raid the "Loft" of "Zeus" (strictly 16s here!) and chuck out all the under-age kids.
I feel I really must mention Tasha's massage parlour. It's a nice place to go to unwind and the staff are always very friendly.
For me, it's quite close to work. All of the pubs haven't been turned into these godawful modern places. If you don't fancy going to a club, there is always some willing landlord prepared to offer a "lock in" (no names mentioned for fear of legal repercussion!). A good variety of food choice to suit all pockets. The fact that a certain local businessman and the Tories no longer hold the county council seat here! For pulling, Ashby has got to be a winner for both sexes and all orientations. Industry, this means if you know somebody with access to the "staff shops" you can get plenty of cheap soap, crisps and biscuits.
The Worst Things
all the charity shops - no disrespect intended, but come on we're in desperate need of some mens clothes shops and we soooooo need a coffee house (starbucks).
The morning after eating a Market Street RatVan ratburger.
PEOPLE FROM NEWHALL THAT CANT DRINK IN THEIR OWN TOWN, AND SHEEP SHA**ERS.
The local council's attitude to the Town. Where else in this country is a curfew still enforced (unofficially!)
Ashby Grammar School
The Derby County supporters
the worst thing about ashby is the bloody road coming into to it because it takes ages to get in especially when the schools finish in the evening and start in the morning becvause of all the buses.
Also the open air swimming pool is a pain because you can't use it in the winter.
The "Local" newspaper always gloats over Ashby's problems (Being Coalville based) The town has a Jekyll & Hyde character at weekends, with frequent bloodletting to Dracula proportions at weekends, and the local Police seem unable to control the town.
Ashby is such an inward looking town, the natives all know each other, and residents from nearby Coalville frequent the high street on weekdays, as they consider it quite posh. However, the rest of the county thinks Ashby is full of Slappers. Which it is. Myself excluded.
Poor bus service, last one to Leicester leaves about 20 to 6 Mon to Sat. Very poorly served by Public Transport, as a result, frequent traffic delays on congestion snarled A50. Pub fights at weekends, we seem to be a magnet for all trouble causers in 20 mile radius and football supporters some weekends. Bad news if you are under 16, nothing much to do other than put your make up on and try and get served!
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
