Food
The Viceroy Indian Restaurant, Ingersley Road. Cheap and Big portions!
SORRY. DON`T AGREE BEASDALES IS GOOD. AFTER EATING THERE A FEW WEEKS AGO. SERVICE AND FOOD NOT UP TO SCRATCH.
Nice takeaways in bollington especially Brisilicos, which serves excellent italian food
Beasdales is my favourite restaurant in Bollington. The food, service and atmosphere are always spot on. Open Wed, Fri & Sats only - Special offers on 2 or 3 courses Wed & Fri.
The viceroy. oposite the poachers.
try it, decent currys and a nice atmosphere. ask for barry.
I love Basilico's (used to be Mauro's). Always excellent service, far more 'user friendly' than it used to be under the old guise, and fantastic if you go early evening with kids. I give it four stars.
Mauro's has become Enzo's. I believe this is the son who is running it. mauro's was excellent as witness all the entries in the food guides.
Now nothing like the original, a sort of pizzeria, overpriced for what is on offer.
great newish Moroccan restaurant in the Meridian. Really liked it.
The banquet they did for ten of us for a birthday party one night was particularly good.
Best food in Bollington is undoubtedly served in the Poachers (Ingersley Road), especially on a Friday night!
Having spent 3 years in Birmingham as a student, I can say that the Indian Restaurant opposite the Poachers Inn is one of the best I have been to. It doesn't look great from the outside but the service is really friendly and the food is great. I'd encourage anyone to give it a go.
The Indian place where the Cypriana used to be is good (can't remember the name). The Church house does good pub grub, as I recall. And the Butty Box does wicked sarnies. Is the Golden Star still around??
Mauro's Italian restaurant has got to be the best place to eat in Bolly if you like Italian food. It is regularly visited by a multitude of famous people. These people include a lot of the Manchester United team, including Alex Ferguson, as the owner is a big fan. I haven't eaten there yet but my mum has and she said it was gorgeous.
Pubs
Not one of Bollingtons pubs appears to be wheelchair accessible. Why is this?
The Spinners is full of twats
Well there are around 20 pubs in bolly so your never short of a pub 2 go 2. There at both ends of the village.
In no particular order my 3 favourite Bolly pubs are: Cotton Tree, Vale Inn and The Red Lion
the poachers is a good one
The Redway for sunny afternoons and kids amenities (although the tree/slide thing could do with some attention).
Tony Butterworth, well known local bloke, has taken over the Cotton Tree in Bollington. Live Irish music every Tuesday night, and at other times, depending who turns up. Tony has a selection of instruments available for anyone to have a go. He has created a very pleasant beer garden too.
The best pub in Bollington is the Cock & Pheasant, great landlord and landlady, Bill and Ellen, super friendly staff and excellent cuisine.
Tony Butterworth - famous Bollingtonian - has taken over the Cotton Tree. Great music if you like Bob Dylan, blues and Irish music! Live Irish music every other Tuesday night - all musicians - using the word loosely - and singers welcome.
Bollington - pubs aplenty maybe - but try getting some bloody sleep or tranquility when the some loud-mouthed git or couple want to have a domestic outside at 1am!
The pub opposite Shrigley Dyers seems the obvious culprit - it shall be fascinating to see if the new occupants of the SO-desired new houses nearby put up with all the garbage that struts up and down Church Street - time will tell - but then I won't live as close to the pub then.
So who cares!
Oh, and don't bother calling the local Police about it - unless you have a 3rd party witness that is!!!
Sadly, I hear that the Cheshire Hunt has been closed.
How ling has Bolly been in Gtr Manchester? Cheapest pint in Bollington, The Crown on Church Street. Worst pint (allegedly) The Holly Bush. Most youthful drinkers, The Red Lion at present.
The Spinners Arms is without doubt the best pub in the village. The staff are all lovely and friendly and the pool table is excellent even though there is always some smug bastard playing "winner stays on" who is there for most of the evening. Go there in summer and enjoy the beer garden or in winter to enjoy the cosy if rather squashed atmosphere. Fridays and Saturdays are very good nights to go in as you will meet many new people who are usually friendly and up for a good time.
Spinners arms is the most popular pub in bollington.
OK, I'm biased - old family friends Mickey & Alan run the Cheshire Hunt. It is true that the food there is incredibly good!! Living in New Jersey makes me miss the pubs - perhaps nostalgia is clouding my judgement, but I don't think so...
Best thing: The pool table in the Queens Arms. It's the best one in a pub in Bollington.
My favourite hostelry is also the Poacher's Inn (Hiya John and Cheryl etc.) but the Waggon and Horses was also friendly in the good old days of Steve Martin and the Kinky Pavements (my band).
Bollington IS famous for its pubs, being an old mining community there are more pubs than churches... The main street running through Bollington, which changes name several times, is a popular venue for pub-crawling stag nights - so if you want a quiet time, pick a pub in the middle of the village, as not many crawlers will get that far - it's a long village! Best boozers are the Church House Inn on Church Street, the Holly Bush on High Street and the Waggon and Horses on Henshall Road. A little outside the village is the Cheshire Hunt - try saying that after a few pints - but it's always full of non-locals pretending they live in Bollington, when actually they're from Poynton (ugh) or worse still, Hazel Grove.
My favourite pub is called The Poachers Inn, a Free house.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
The County Cafe in Spuley Lane is now closed, sorry to the person who raved about it.
theres sadly not many of these in bollington itself but if u venture out into pott or alderly you will no doubt find 1
brassingtons bakery on wellington road near the waggon and horses pub does delicious sandwichs and hot pies!! the staff are polite and very helplful!
it has recently opened and is a blessing to bollington! good, reasonable priced service all round!!
Deli & Spice - corner of High Street & Palmerston Street, excellent coffee, delicious cakes & pastries.
the country cafe, more pott shrigley way! definitely the best food in bollington, especially great for those traditional sunday lunches or simple afternoon teas! i work there i have to say that.
The Clarence Mill Coffee shop is run by Emma Perrin (she used to run Bridge End Country Cafe) and is brilliant for getting a nice cup of coffee and some cake. She is a fantastic cook and although the menu is simple, the food is great. I should know, I used to work there!!
