Favourite Building
Union Hotel, Chapel Street
LYOYDS BANK WITH THE HUGE CLOCK ON IT,TRAIN STATION AND WHARFSIDE SHOPPING CENTRE
The cinema in Causewayhead was great till they turned it into a multi-screened dog kennel.
Chapel House, Market House, Morrab Library, the Station.
The Market House, the School of Art/ Library, Newlyn School of Art, the Egyptian House - and the Railway Station? (Sure, even though its going to ruin...)
Market House (the one with the dome)
Demolish It Now Building
My maths teachers house, s'pose i cant tell you his name
THE WHOLE OF TRENEERE! (APART FROM MY COUSINS HOUSE)
The whole of Treneere?
Humphry Davy School! Horrid place.
The scout hut in Heamoor. Nothing wrong with Scouting mind you, just the leaders in that hut!
Breadline Centre in Bread St. It only encourages more dead beat bums to descend on Penzance.
The old, town-centre Tesco's that they said they were going to keep open when their planning application for the new superstore was being considered...and while we're about it, how about the new superstore as well?
Penlowarth!!!! Also the little line of shops down Market Jew Street with all that brown boarding on thier upper halves. Eurch!
Penlowarth Building, for two reasons: i) it is the most abysmal example of 'sixties architecture, but more importantly ii) it's the dole office!
The Angarrack inn pub!
The Best Things
Rural small town tranquility
The realisation of Celtic culture, especially of the link with fellow Brythonic countries Cymru(Wales) and Breizh(Brittany): "Kernow Kensa!"
THE SEA FRONT, FRESH AIR AND THE WEATHER
Being next to the sea now its been cleaned-up...Allegedly!!
Lovely countryside, mainly unspoiled.
The pubs along the seafront.
Fishing. Surfing.
The weather...Really! (except btn Sept & May)
Most of the locals (see The Worst Things)
Jubilee Pool, on hot summer days in the 1960's when we used to go down in our swimsuits and laze around the top balcony.Supposed to be revising for our exams!
Corpus Christi Fair, mind you it usually rained when it was here!(Back in the 60's)
People.
Friday/ Staurday nights, if you have body armour and a sponge, or Saturday mornings for shopping. Also the magnificent Penlee House Art Gallery (mega-cheap somedays for entry)
Loads of pubs (haunted),
Definitely the gorgeous beach on St. Ives Bay....3 miles long a lot better than the St. Ives beaches.
The Worst Things
The ever increasing number of lost hippy smack head losers who invade each summer and remain to slowly decompose in the street.
SOME PEOPLE HATING SKATEBOARDERS BUT THATS ALWAYS GOING TO BE AROUND
The drunken dross who inhabit anywhere they can get, now the alcohol ban is in force.
The drug culture- Penzance has one of the worst drug problems in the South West.
Gangs of kids who think they're hard but would shit themselves if faced individually.
Some of the locals are very "cliquey" and dont like Emmets ( Anyone not Cornish )
Dead-beat pan handlers, with their mangey dogs lying around the streets. Mostly on the Terrace and Causewayhead. Someone should run them out of town!
People.
The Bus Shelter, the state of Jubilee Pool, ditto Station, the roads, the lower end of the main street, the drunks, the teenyboppers, the old women in trainers ... basic, everyday loathsome stuff. Oh, and the weather.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Penzance.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Penzance.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
